    - Visual Studio & Pocket PC 2003 I have seen various messages on this newsgroup indicating that there is an updated emulator available for VS.NET that emulates PPC2003 instead of PPC2002 (which is all that I have).     - SqlCeDataAdapter.RowUpdated event Can anybody explain to me why after calling SqlCeDataAdapter.Update the RowUpdated event is called but the error information seems incomplete? In the event hander RowsEffected sometimes = 0 so I get the idea that there has been an error, as a succesfull RowUpdate in my case should have 1 row effected. If I dont set the event argument Status to System.Data.UpdateStatus.Continue an Exception is generated which in my case often tells me there is a primary key constraint problem. However if I set Status = System.Data.UpdateStatus.Continue no exception is thrown (as expected) but nor can I get detailed error information in either the event handler or the function that called Update.     - localizating controls ? Hello, I'm trying to find an easy way to localize control's Text properties. For instance I could replace the following code: void InitializeComponents() { ... this.m_Label1 = new Label(); this.m_Label1.Text = "Hallo Welt !" ... } with this code: void InitializeComponents() { ... this.m_Label1 = new Label(); this.m_Label1.Text = Resource.GetString("Hallo Welt !") ... } In which Resource.GetString() is a static function searching the calling assembly's resources for a translation of "Hallo Welt !" depending on System.Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentUICulture. Unfortunately, editing InitializeComponents() would render the designer useless. So that method is out of question. The next solution that comes to mind is to set all translatable text again after InitializeComponents() has finished. But this is cirumstantial, fault-prone and time-consuming (both, run-time and design-time). Another approach would be to extend all standard controls so that they call Resource.GetString() automatically. How would you or did you deal with this problem ?     - Yet again a much asked question: full screen Hi, I am reposting my question of a few weeks ago because I got no response. I was using this CDialog based baseclass STFullScreen from http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/stfullscreen.html This worked fine on PPC 2002 but seems ineffective under PPC 2003. It seems PPC 2003 behaves different enough with hiding start and sip menu's and perhaps with windows positions or whatever, to cause my PPC 2002 app to become useless. In CE 4.2, my application comes up in full screen, but as soon as I click anywhere in the screen, the menu bars appear again, and for some reason, I can't even exit my application anymore, buttons click, but do not seem to process messages, as the buttons animate, but do not seem to process the on_click messages. Anyway, those are specifics to my source code and the above mentioned base class I think so in general: Can someone just tell me how to, or reference me to some resource, where I can make full screen DIALOG BASED apps, which work on both PPC2002 (CE 3.x) and PPC2003 (CE 4.2) ?     - update ComboBox: flicker problem I have installed SP2. I have a screen with many Controls (setting some property values), one of them being a ComboBox. At some stage I should update the DataSource and SelectedItem of the ComboBox (when the user change a setting with another Control) the problem is even thought I change this 2 property one after the other, in the same event handler, my combo flicker. when I set the DataSource it redraws, then I set the SelectedItem it redraws again, which looks messy. It works fine if the file is small, but files over 100K cause an Argument Exception error. Since the compact frame work does not have: picbox.image.fromfile("...")     - color.fromargb in .net compact does not paint transparent Hello, When I use the microsoft example below and run it, it produces 3 circles which are more or less transparent. When I use the exact same code in .net compact, I see 3 opaque circles. The MSDN information does not mention anything about not being able to draw transparent images.     - MessageWindow Consternation with HTMLControl I am looking for some thoughts on this. I have successfully gotten the HTMLControl to work using C#, and it is displaying HTML and receiving messages nicely. Unfortunately, I am not able to receive notifications from the HTMLControl. In an attempt to support this, I added a private MessageWindow derived class to the control, instantiating it in the constructor (of the control). Unfortunately, I am not receiving any messages from the HTMLControl. I do receive a single message on the initial load of the form (13) but not from the handle of the display window the control is using. I have not found much documentation on the MessageWindow, aside from the NotifyIcon example - which I followed. I thought that adding notifications would be rather simple when looking at that code. So, I am looking for thoughts on how to debug this - or where to look next. My options seem straight forward: 1. The control isn't producing messages and needs some initialization to do so. 2. It is producing messages but not directing them to where the MessageWindow can receive them. 3. The MessageWindow should be receiving them, but isn't properly setup to do so.     - VS 2003 freezes when bringing up GUI from code this is -really- weird. i built a GUI yesterday that included buttons, text boxes, labels, a menu, image list, and picture boxes. nothing fancy, just basic stuff. when i tried to open it today VS 2003 just froze. but when i create a new project, copy over my old .cs and .resx files, and then bring up the GUI editor and the source code, it's fine. unless i exit w/ the GUI editor still open, and try to open it again, then i have the same problem. VS 2003 also freezes when i open the old project and i don't have the GUI editor open, but then try to bring up the GUI editor from the source code. has anyone seen anything like this?? i'm running on win2k if that makes a difference. thanks in advance.     - accessing VC ActiveX from .NET Hi All, I have created an ActiveX control using VC 6.0. One of the interface implements a method which takes in VARIANT FAR* as the parameter. Iam unable to call this method from C#(.NET 2003) no matter what.. I can call the same method from VB 6.0. I have been bogged down by this problem for quite some time.. I dont have a clue what to do.. The funny thing is that I created a VB stub (again an ActiveX with method taking byref Variant), which calls the earlier mentioned VC activex method with the parameter passed to it. If I call the above VB method from C# using "ref Object" param it works fine!!!     - Send a file over a TCP network connection Hi, I posted a question a while back relating to sending data over a network, and was told to go and look into how networks send data. I know that TCP can not guarentee the order in which data is delivered to a device. In light of this, I have a problem which I can not find a way out of: I need to send a file of around 4-5Mb over a network. To prevent communicaiton thread being locked, I was attempting to segment the data into 8k segments of data to be sent. In the header of each segment, I was attaching a 4byte integer representing the segment number, which will allow the reciever to place the data in the relevant position in the output file. Occasionally the client decodes the segment identifier into a bizzare value (last time I tried this, I was expecting to see segment number 234, and recieved -432352 or similar). However, this is not working,and the data being written out to a file at the reciever is not the same as the input data at the server. Why would this be? Please can anyone shed any light on this matter, or show me an example of how I should send the data/ensure that the data at the client end is pieced together correctly?     - Usual Values for WebService.Timeout? Hello NG! The default for the timeout of an WebService is 100 seconds. I think, this is a long time to let the user know, that the server isn't reachable (with the specified url). So what are usual values in a scenario where mobile devices connect to a server over the internet? I thought of maybe 20 seconds? In my experience thee timeout-value affects only the allowed time to get the first contact to the server. Afterwards it isn't important, how long the WebMethod takes for calculating the result, isn't it? Do client and server 'talk' to each other while the result is calculated?     - Unable to connect with web service first time. Hi. Im using web services and my two questions are the following: 1. The first time the web service is called it always seems to generate a "Culd not connect to remote server". Any calls after that goes fine. 2. If connection is available then the first call to a web service is much slower than calls after that. Is this to be expected? Are there workarounds.     - Copying files I need to copy some file from a SD Card to a folder on my PPC. Using File.Copy doesn't seem to preserve the timestamp of the file, so how do I do that? An existing app/sample that can handle it would also be of great interest. Basically, I have a text file with "From / To" filenames and need to copy each one of these. And after the release of SP2 the use of the keyboard works pretty well. But im struggling with one issue: When my form loads, i read and fill a he listview, selects the last item, call the ensurevisible, and forces the focus to the listview.     - PPC 2003 & 2002 Emulators both launch I've just installed the PPC 2003 SDK, and would like to run my existing project using the new 2003 emulator. I have set the project to use 2003, but it still insists on launching the 2002 emulator first. Weird thing is, it installs .net & sqlce on 2002, copies the application over to 2002, and then also copies to 2003, finally launching the app only on 2003...aarrgghh I can create a new hello world app using 2003 and it works just fine.... Is there some switch in my project other than.. /////......CUT!! I just thought about it and figured it out on my own...the problem was that I had a .dll project in the solution that was still set to 2002. Moral of the story: make sure all your projects in your solution are set to the same device! I'm still sending this in case someone else has this bonehead problem.. Thanks anyway!     - messagewindow not listening after losing focus Hey guys, I have 2 CF apps where one sends message and the other listens through a messagewindow. The problem occurs when focus is taken away from the listener app (e.g. by starting up another app), from that point on the messagewindow no longer receives messages even though the sender app is still sending them. I was wondering if any of you have run into this problem or have ideas as to what's going on.     - SqlCeRemoteDataAccess Pull Im using RDA (SqlCeRemoteDataAccess) to retrieve data from a remote sql server to a pocket pc device It works no problem, in that if no sql server ce database exists on the device the pull method retrieves the required data and creates a local sql server ce database The problem I have is refeshing the data I initially retrieved. I have tried using the same code but it fails. Now if before using the same code i delete the sdf file off the file system and then use rda pull again it works fine. I tried leaving the database intact and dropping the local table i want to refresh and then trying rda pull again but that fails too So it appears to use rda pull the database must NOT exist and the call to pull creates the database. The problem i have is that there are numerous tables in the local sql server ce database and i only want to refresh the data in a couple of tables rather than retrieving the whole database as this is not required. My question really is just to confirm , can you use rda pull to refresh data in a local ce database file that already exists. With the .net CF Symbol libraries: I cannot read (I see the symbol samples) barcodes (type interlaved 2/5) with less than 8 characters. I can read "12345678", "1234567890" but not "1234" or "123456". Saw this new error on my development machine this morning when compiling.
Both old and new projects alike, rebooting not helpful. All desktop
framework apps work as expected.

"Could not instantiate the resource processor" - Form1.resx

Deleting the resx files and then compiling works unless of course you had
something loaded in a picturebox. Any ideas?
