    - Code does not always work. I am writing a application for a Symbol MC3000 running WinCE4.2. I am having a problem in which simple code like below will stop working. frmProperties frmProp = new frmProperties(); frmProp.ShowDialog(); frmProp.Dispose(); What is going on? Sometimes it works other times not. It is a very simple form. Just some text boxes and Ok and cancel buttons. Ok saves the data to a textfile and then Set DialogResult= Ok and the cancel Sets it to Cancel. This is getting very frustrating since I cannot the app through the debugger. I get the "Deploying to Pocket PC Device using TCP Connect Transport Error: Cannot establish a connection. Be sure the device is physically connected to the development computer."     - application won't run Hi, I have deployed a cab file created by VS.Net VB, and it ran fine on my WinCE ARMv$ board. Then, when I tried to do the same thing again, the application gets installed, but double clicking on it causes no action. The program works well on the simulator.     - Drawing from a BITMAP structure into a picturebox Hi, I a a C++ library that has a command that allow me to capture an image from a camera device, which looks like this in the ".h" file: PROBE_ERRORCODE Capture(BITMAP *pBitmap); I want to use this command to capture the image and put it into a picturebox, in C#. I have a SafeNativeMethod.cs file in which I declared the method (and many others...) as well as the BITMAP structure (and BITMAPINFO, and other bitmap related definitions).     - Can I deploy CF 2.0 using Visual Studio 2005? I have VS 2005 Beta2 and Windows CE 5.0, I created a test project using CF V2.0 and the enviroment fails to connect. It complains that the bootstrap cannot be loaded. Do I need to add something to the CE image? What are the image requirements for the device? Isn't enought to have Windows CE 5.0 on it?     - PWI conversion I am creating an application that will work on a tablet PC as well as a Pocket PC and the application contains a Notes feature. Currently, the Notes are ready to go on the PPC with PWI files as the output. I need to find a way to have the Notes (not necessarily in PWI format) interchangable between the tablet and PPC.     - WebException protocol error calling web service I am getting a WebException (protocol error) when trying to call a web service from the compact framework (1.0.4292). The web service is running on IIS 5.1 on my development machine (local) and the PocketPC is docked in the cradle. I know the web service is working because I can call it up in the browser on my machine and I can also call it up in the browser on the PocketPC. I'm curious if anyone knows what would be causing this behavior from the compact framework? Also, I've been able to work around the problem for now by adding <httpModules><clear /></httpModules> to my web.config. I have no idea why this "fixes" things (that would be nice to know also). I figured this out because I dropped the dll/asmx into an another virtual directory on my machine and the web service started working from the PocketPC.     - Simple ComboBox Question I'm assuming I'm missing something here, but I seem to be having a problem in the selectedindexchanged routine when using different comboboxes. I have two comboboxes and when I change the value in one, I want the other one to be set to blank. I tried setting the text property to "" but that does nothing, so then I tried setting the selectedindex to -1 and that works, but the combobox that I'm actually changing never gets changed it stays blank too, but the second time I change the value in the combobox, it actually changes...what's going on here, am I doing something in the wrong order?     - Timer interfering with menu clicks? I've got an odd behavior where I have a 5-second timer on a form, which when triggered updatess about 12 label items with data from reading the registry. If I tap on a main menu then select a submenu item, fairly often (like every 3rd time or so as fast as I can tap) nothing happens. The menu item is highlighted and the menu then disappears, but no action is taken. When it does happen to work I hear the Click signifying the tap was "heard". When it doesn't work I hear no click, yet the menu disappears. Like you'd get if you tap to bring up the menu, then tap off-menu on purpose. If I disable the timer it works fine. If I keep the timer but don't do the registry reads it also works fine. I have other working apps with timers to update the screen, the clock time, etc, but not from so many registry reads (using opennetcf registry class). I'm wondering if/how a "longer" timer routine can somehow muck up the OS's ability to track menu taps on the main UI (foreground issues btw the main UI area and menu's area?), and what I might do to fix it.     - Trivial serial communication problem? Hi, This may be a trivial question, but I could not find a straightforward answer. I am using the OpenNETCF.IO.Serial library for serial communication. All I need to do is listen for any incoming data. However, when I send data to the device's serial port a dialog box pops up that says "Desktop @19200 Status" and no data ever makes it to my application. What is this dialog box? Does it have something to do with AciveSync? I don't use ActiveSync to debug so I could remove it from the CE image if necessary. Thanks for your help.     - clearcommerror native exception? Hi Guys: I have searched in the forums and groups and I haven't find out why this is happenning. Either I am missing some setting on my device or there is some other way to code it. Here is my senario: I am trying to write a serial bluetooth communication application on pocket pc platform. I have successfully opened ports and write to it. In my attempt to check for error flags using ClearCommError that I p/invoked from coredll.dll, pocket pc opens up a dialog form outside of my code that reads: "A native exception has occurred in dummyProgram.exe select quit and restart this program or select details for more info" Is there anyway I can get the error flags on the pocket pc? I am trying to do this because I want to implement the auto baud functionality. I pretty much has the auto baud algorithm but this dialog is driving me nuts. Any help is appreciated.     - Custom Controls with DLLImports in VS 2005 I am trying to port some existing CF custom controls to VS 2005. I have read the article "Creating Custom Controls for MS .NET CF in VS 2005" which was helpful, but it does not deal with DLLImports. I have created the .xmta file to deal with the design attributes that are required and have installed the control into the toolbox, but still have errors when I drag-n-drop the control onto a form. It complains about the DLLImports and then crashes VS. I have searched this Newsgroup but no joy. Does anyone know how to deal with this issue? Is there an attribute that needs to be added to handle this or do you have to code around each and every reference to the DLLImport functions? Any help will be appreciated.     - Tcp - reconnect I'm currently developing telnet client for Windows CE.NET ( it is used to run specialized console apps on server ) Problem is one of the requirements - user should be able to reconnect to previous session. Example : user connects to server, runs app, does some work, turns the terminal off leaving it idle for few minutes/hours/days, then turns it back on and he should be able to resume his work exactly where he stopped before. Problem is ... how to achieve that ? As soon as terminal goes into standby mode, network connections are broken, async operations start throwing exceptions and socket becomes unusable so i have to drop it and reconnect,thus losing the session. Some more info : - fully async communication - telnet server configured to not timeout any session - pausing/blocking send/recv before suspend mode does not help - disabling suspend mode/turn off buttonis not an option I know it is possible because telnet client named Wavelink does exactly that - you can run app, turn it off, let it collect dust for weeks , put batteries back again and everything still works as if you never turned the device off.     - ArgumentException when adding to this.Controls I'm trying to add an object to this.Controls, using this.Controls.Add() on a Panel object. When I'm trying to do so, an ArgumentException is thrown. According to MSDN, an ArgumentException is thrown by ControlCollection.Add() if the child parameter does not specifiy a control. If I catch the exception, and read out the Type of the object I added (using GetType() ), I'm getting System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox (as expected). What am I missing here?     - Closing DataReader - an expensive operation? I did some rather primitive instrumentation to see what was taking the longest in some SQL Server CE code. The culprit was this line: dtr.Close(); Any idea why it would take 7-8 seconds to close a DataReader? Lots of data has been read from the datareader; I thought this would be the expensive part.     - Exception when set combobox default value I have a combobox which binds to a dataset with id and description. The combobox populate all items and I can get the selectedValue. But I cannot set the selected value. I always got exception with no further error info. I read some posts on this forum talked about u have to set selectedindex twice to let it work.     - Proxy Authentication Required I am having a problem with getting a reponse from an HttpWebRequest from the emulator. I keep getting an error: 'Proxy Authentication Required'. I have an ISA Proxy on the network. This problem only occurs with the Pocket PC 2003 Emulator and the Windoes CE.NET Emulator. It works ok on the Pocket PC 2002 emulator and on the actual devices. I can use the IE in the emulator to connect the web site if I configure IE to use the proxy server and give credentials. I tried setting the proxy in code and suppling credentials, but this doesn't work and causes problems. Why is special code to handle proxy not necessary for 2002 emulator or actual devices and how can I get the 2003 Emulator and CE.NET emulator to work?     - Closing Forms Hi, I am currently trying to develop an application for a Symbol barcode scanner running Windows Pocket PC 2002. The application has a login form , which then moves to a menu form . The menu form then has buttons which load all the other forms for the application. My problem is that when the user logins in for example, I create a new instance of the menu form and call close on the login form . If I then go check the running programs the login form is still running? How do I close this form? Sorry I am very new to this!     - Smart Application Updater Hi, I'm trying to get the sample "Smart Application Updater" from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8348C96B-CBDB-4609-9A07-2281383B8B0B&displaylang=en to work. The File "manifest.xml" is received correctly, the new folder "2.0.0.0" is created correctly, but when the first file (Atomic.CF.dll) should be downloaded an error "Error 500: Internal Server Error" occurs. What if there are more then one value? How can I detect which one will be used by application. But I can install .NET CF to the device without any special messages from the .cab file and it will apear in Remove Programs applet. This adds new value to the "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework" registry key. So how can I be sure which one of this installations will be used by application? I'm trying to find a way for the user to jump between the Text Boxes without using a mouse, or more simplisticly, jump to the next Text Box.     - multiple panels, Send to Back Hi, I am developing a simple CF.NET as a learning exercise. I want to have multiple pages for a user to input basic information, then to save to disk for later processing. Each page will have back and forward buttons, the final page will clear the fields on preceeding pages and put the user back to the first page for a new user. I've tried using multiple forms, since then I've found panels which I'm assuming is the more efficient or better design? How can I be sure that a component such as a Label or a Textbox is attached onto a Panel? I tried to attach a component to my 3rd panel, but when I run the application a component is on the wrong page. I have been right-clicking on the panel and then 'Send to Back' to view other Panels. Since adding a 3rd and 4th Panel, the 'next' button (one on each panel) has stopped navigating to the my next intended panel, instead on the 2nd panel it now jumps to the 4th. I also cannot view one of my earlier panels, and don't know how to Bring to Front as I cannot see it to right click on it. All these problems seem to have stemmed from Send to Back and Bring to Front. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA. Regards, Joe. Now I need the SQL-CE-application (database "server" and client) I installed the CAB-file from the Visual- Tools 4.0, like I used to on CE 4.1. But unfortunately its not working. The file explorer still dont recognizes SDF-files and when I try to start isql, I get an "isql is not a valid CE-application" (I had to translate this message for you, I have a german system) My system was build with the PlatformBuilder (but not from me), maybe its missing something? It contains two DLLs in the windows-directory, named something like sqlce* and I was told, this should be the SQL-server. But like I said: Its not working. The point is, I have to write an application on this device. In the emulator (CE 4.1) everything is working fine, on the device I get an "TypeLoadException" every time I try to reach the database.     - Fragmentation of FAT filesystem on flash disks. I'm have an application that has been running on Intermec 720 terminals with Pocket PC 2000 for 3-4 years now. I store the database and the datafiles that this application generates on a flash disk card. My problem is that this application is now much slower than it was before. We have traced this problem to a very fragmented filesystem. When we defragment the flash disk with StorageTools from SoftWinter the application get's it's speed back. We could of course buy this program for all teriminals we have out in the field. (I think it's 400-500 spread all over Norway). But it's not a very realistic to think that the users of our program will be able to run it them self. So the best solution is to let our program do it.     - .NET CF Install Hi, I am developing a project with VB .Net using Symbol PDT-8100 Pocket PC. In Visual Studio .Net, when I am trying to Debug my project, every time netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab and System_SR_enu.cab copied to Pocket PC and load again and again.     - Killing a sleeping thread I'm running a keepalive thread on one form in my application to prevent the device from suspending. It works fine except for the way I end the thread. I created a bool that is checked on every iteration of my keepalive method. When I set the bool to true, the thread exits. The only problem is that I have to wait for the thread to stop sleeping.     - "My Company" name The way that I generate the CAB file for the mobile app is to right click on the project and select "Build Cab File" and this works fine. Now if the CAB file is deployed for the 2nd time, after an upgrade, etc, the device asks the question "My Company <app name> is already installed. Re-install?".     - More standby problems I am altering the registry key to change the standby settings, this now works fine, when I look at the settings on the PDA, the PDA appears to have acknowledged the change. In the test case I change it to go into standby (on battery) in 1 minute. The PDA however, does not go into standby after 1 minute but waits for 3 minutes (the previous setting). So I do a SendMessage (see below) which returns a 1, the PDA still takes 3 minutes to go into standby. What am I doing wrong? Hi every body,

I developed a VB .NET application and iÂ´m trying to deploy it on the pocket
2003 device, however when i try to deploy the visual studio canÂ´t connect to
the device. I already plug in the cradle to the USB port, but the visual
studio try to connect through the network. Do you now how can i fix it ??

Yup. My device is connected through ActiveSync, but the visual Studio canÂ´t
deploy application on it. When i try to deploy VisualStudio always try to
connect to the device through the network. I tried to configure the Visual
Studio to use another option to connect to the device, but there are couple
options there "TCP Connection Transport" and "IrDa connection Transport".

The Cradle that is connect to my computer can use couple options USB or
RS232. I tried to use both without success.
