    - Cannot establish a connection. Hi, I recently got given a new development i-mate. I had used the Backup program to create a backup image of the old device which I restored onto the new one. After doing this I found I could not deploy properly from VS.NET 2003. I also recently installed SP1 for the CF. If I do a hard reset of the device I can then deploy - however I would really like to use the image I restored as I have other software on there that would require quite a few things to be reinstalled manually. Any ideas on what it could be ? I read in Google that it used to be a problem with old files hanging around but I have removed from the device CF, the 1.1 files (from the Remove Programs and ActiveSync) and also deleted my application directory.     - Installing eVB 3.0 application on Pocket PC 2003 with eVB Runtime file I am trying to install eVB application on Pocket PC 2003 thru a cab File.I am adding the eVB Runtime file to the CAB file to copy in Windows directory on the Pocket PC 2003 device,but the dll's are not extracted from the Run time file and we have to do manually to extract them.I don't want my user to go File Explorer and manually tap on the eVB runtime file to extract the dll's.Is there any way where I can install the eVb Run time files in Windows directory on the Pocket PC 2003 device while installig my eVB application.     - creating a setup for vb.net I'm having trouble with successfully completing the instructions that microsoft has for creating a .MSI type installation for a project. The paper I'm refering to is titled: Developing and Deploying Pocket PC Setup Applications I get stuck on the creationof the custominstaller project and it's installer.vb object.     - Creating a numeric-only textbox Hi! I'm trying to subclass a TextBox and make it so only numeric characters may be entered. I thought the easiest way would be to override the "OnKeyPress" method, check the data, and set the character to 0 if invalid (this worked in eVb!!!).     - InvalidOperationException when Axis web service returns null array I am working on a .NET CF application that returns an InvalidOperationException when the Axis(1.1) web service it consumes returns a null array (the return type of the web service is an array of a complex type - see below). The situation described here: http://www.error-bank.com/microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.webservices/3575_Thread.aspx is my issue. Like the individual in that post, I can successfully consume the web service with a full .NET Framework client without issue (even if a null array is returned). The fixes in .NET CF 1.0 SP3 (http://blogs.msdn.com/onoj/articles/178293.aspx) seemed like they might fit our issue, so we installed the .NET CF 1.0 SP3 beta on to one of our devices (custom device running Windows CE.NET). Unfortunately, we still experienced the issue. One item that I thought may be cause for concern is that the namespace of the object (app.foo.bar.com) and the array of oject (webservices.baz.bar.com) in the WSDL were different. Might this be an issue?     - ntext column with 256 chars does not ger synch Hello all, I have an SQL table with a ntext column. That column contains data with 256 characters and more. I have also a pocket pc with SQL CE 2.0 with the same table/column and an ntext datatype. Everytime I sync and the data (SQL server) in the column has 255 charaters and less the sync will work successfully. This same column with 256 characters and more will not get sync on my pocket pc 2003. The row will get created but no data for that column. Initialy, on the SQL server, my column was a nvarchar(2000), i thought that could conflict with SQL CE because nvarchar datatype has a max character of 255. But the result didn't change. I also ran an update statement on the SQL CE DB to make sure the column could hold more than 255 characters and I was successfull since it's an ntext. The queries for the sync are being done through http. Could that be the issue? Is there some sort of configuration that I missed? NOTE: I'm using appforge. Any help would be appreciated.     - Re: What comes first - form load or form activate event? Didn't ever see an answer to Saul's question from back in August, so... What I've seen is that Load normally occurs before Activate. The exception I found is when TopMost is set. Then you'll see Activate come first. I worked around it by setting TopMost inside Activate and clearing it when the form closes. BTW, I am not using the compact framework; I saw this in v1.1.4322. It seems odd, but I'm sure there's a reason for it...     - Mobile Devices Data Transfer Dotnet My skills are in VB. Net/SQL Server and i have touched on PDA development mainly as a tester. i am aware of using webservices for functionality. I have been given a task to develop a solution which enables users of handheld devices to go out to various sites and record information and send the information back to a head office from site for processing. Does anyone have any ideas or could give me any help regarding best methods of connectivity and transferring of data. costs/speed etc.... My basic plan is to use a handheld device with some type of connectivity (some people have mentioned GPRS but i dont have a clue)technology to access web services on a server and then transfer data using an XML dataset. Do i need sql server on the handheld device ??? does anyone have any helpful hints on how to connect to the webservices, where the webservices should be located as i dont know much about this aspect. The second form's minimize button is disabled (OK button shown on upper right). Whenever a user close the second form, the form fires the "Closing" event.     - Syncing with remote db Hi We have an access db running on a windows 2003 server. The server is connected to the internet via ADSL. I would like a windows mobile 2003 based vb.net app to sync data from the server, ideally via gprs, from time to time, the pda and the server have the same info. What is a good way to go about doing the data sync between the pda and the server?     - JPEGs on CE .NET I am trying to port a pure win 32 desktop (Windows XP) application to a Windows CE .NET Ver 4.2 running on a Intel Arm Xscale processor. This is totally new to me and so far, most of the things have been porting ok, except for the JPEG images. On XP version, I am using the following calls to render the JPEGS: CreateFile() ReadFile() //to read to a byte buffer CreateStreamOnHGlobal() //read to a stream OleLoadPicture() //load it to a IPicture object IPicture::Render() //render it On CE, OleLoadPicture function is not available. I tried in vain to find any CE equivalents of this function. Can any of you guys tell me if there is an equivalent function or if its a totally different approach on CE.     - Tricky form problem Hello, I'm totally stuck at the following tricky problem. Hopefully someone of you has got an advice how to solve ... Our main application class has got a main form which shows some buttons (main menu). The Click-EventHandler of those buttons create and show (using ShowDialog method) different modal child forms. Some of those modal child forms also create and show other modal child forms. To make it short, all forms are modal and all is working like a charm. I really don't want to change this part of the application. In order to use the devices as phones, one of our customer equiped the devices with modem cards (CF). The phone functionality should be available at any time throughout the whole application. So I extended our main application class by installing an hotkey (RegisterHotKey, Win32 API) to toggle a form which exposes some phone functionality (do calls, read and write sms, ...). This phone form is created in our main application class and works well as long as it is shown (using Show method) from within the main form. When using the hotkey from within a modal child form of the main form, we get into trouble. Altough the phone form pops up, it doesn't react on clicks. There is not problem closing the phone form by pressing the hotkey again. On the other side, when using ShowDialog() there's no problem showing and using the phone form from within one of the child forms. Unfortunately, when popping up the phone form automatically because of an incoming call or an incoming sms, the ShowDialog() method blocks the event processing of our modem class (the IncomingVoiceCall-Event in the code snippets below) until the form is closed. So I cannot use the ShowDialog() method. The question is, why doesn't work the Show() method from within modal child forms? Is there a way to get around this problem? Do you see a better way?     - Maximum size of form in designer Hi! I need to add 8 panels on a form, each with different controls, that I switch on the form depending on the functionality. I put three panels one below the other on the form in the designer view (each panel has width 240, height 270) and then if I try to drag the form further down, nothing happens.     - Detecting the Pocket PC Power On/Off button Hi all, When I launch my app, one option a user has is to start a 30 second timer that updates a form. When the user presses the power button on the PPC, the device turns off, or more correctly, the display is shut down but the app is still running. When the user presses the power button again, the screen shows the form that was displayed before the power was turned off. All OK up to this point. What I have noticed is that the 30 second timer does not update the form immediately the power button is touched but may wait for up to a its full 30 seconds depending on the cycle at which the power button was pressed. My question is: How can I detect that the screen is now on (after the power button has been pressed) to force a refresh of the form so that I am not waiting for the 30 second timer? I have discovered CeRunAppAtEvent but I think that is more to do with running an app at an event. I am not sure whether this will work for my scenario where I want to triggering a form refresh at power up on a running app, if that option is selected by the user.     - "Main" thread in CF programs Is there anything special about the thread which runs Main in the Compact Framework? In my current design, it would be more elegant to create a new thread and run the UI on that, running the major processing on the entry thread, than starting a new thread to do the major processing and running the UI on the entry thread, if you see what I mean. This is because the UI is basically just reflecting progress - it's not really "driving" the application.     - Can the SIP default to NUMPAD display Hi, Can I have the Soft Input Panel (SIP) default to the numpad-type display? I have a form that requires no text entries, but 8 numeric entries. The SIP displays when the first textbox receives the focus, but it always comes up in the last used format: sometimes keypad, sometimes numpad. Another issue: the project contains the TabControl with 5 tabpages, but none of the textboxes/buttons I place on any of these tabs will accept the TAB key for moving. I have enabled "AcceptsTab" but no change; and the View|Tab Order option does not display any tab order either. Hi all!

Yesterday I open VisualStudio on a PPC progect and as every day I clicked on
the "Run" button.

I got (I translate, excuse me if the message isn't accurate) "Cannot
establish a connection. Make sure that the device is physically connected to
the development computer".

I tryed evrything: I reinstalled VisualStudio, Reinstalled ActiveSync
(3.7.1), Hard reset the device... nothing!

ActiveSync works, I can browse the device, but VS cannot connect to it (and
the day before it worked!).

Someone can tell me a check-list to make it work?

Same problem started here after a hard reset.
ActiveSync works - but vs.net can't connect.

Any MS comments on this ?
