    - app_offline files in recycle bin Hi Friends I have a question. I work throughtout the day with my application (C#.NET, ASP.NET 2.0, SQL SERVER 2005 ). By end of the day if I see my Recycle Bin, its full of app_offline files. Then everyday I remove these files from recycle bin. I want to know that is it normal? or something is wrong?     - .NET CF v2 not capatible on VGA Dell Axim! Hi Has anyone experienced any problems running .NET CF v2 applications on Dell Axim x51v/Dell Axim X50v (Pocket PC 2003SE or WM5.0)? Whenever my users exit the .NET CF v2 application the today screen shows large patches of purple. Only way to fix this is to soft reset or rotate the screen. I donâ??t have a Dell Axim to test but I tested the application on my XDA Exec and it exited without any problems. So it seems the problem is related to VGA Dell Axims only.     - New Windows Mobile 5.0 projects have non-PDA form size I've made CE apps before, in Dev Studio 2003, and the IDE automatically produced a form that was appropriate for the PDA. However, I don't see that happening in VS05. It seems to default the form to normal Windows size which is, of course, inappropriate for the compact frame work's screen.     - Image Scanner w/ ScanCAPI I am writing a wrapper class to capture images with a motorola scanner. We currently have wrapper classes for the regular barcode scanning. These are LXE MX5 Devices with integrated Scanners.     - Problem with design controls (This message is cross-posted in vsnet.ide and dotnet.framework.compactframework as I am not sure where it belongs) Hi! I've converted a Compact Framework solution from VS2003 to VS2005. The solution contains several projects, one main project and a number of subprojects (i.e. winapi, serialport, GPS, custom controls etc.). After opening the project in VS2005 I step through the conversion wizard, no problems occurs. But, at this point I can't add any custom controls to forms in design view. - This only happens to this specific project (the main project)! - I can upgrade my subprojects, for instance the CustomControls solution and add custom controls to it's testform. - I can also create new projects and add the custom controls in design time! - I can add standard controls without problem to any project! To be able to add a ImageControl from the SDK from the maker of our PDAs I need to upgrade the project to CF2. I get the same error message here when the project is upgraded and I try to add the ImageControl to a form. ### So something is messing up the designer using custom controls in this particular project! ### I actually managed to add the ImageControl to the migrated and upgrade project once, I thought I did something right (which I did wrong previously) so I started correcting and adding small changes throughout the code, and when I got to the point when I really needed to add the ImageControl again, I get the same error!!! Note! The error occurs on other controls as well, I am using the ImageControl as it is a well tested 3rd party control. Here's the error I get, it also causes VS to crash (I've sent an error report some of the times): Failed to create component 'ImageControl'. The error message follows: 'System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at System.Resources.Tools.StronglyTypedResourceBuilder.DefineResourceFetchingProperty(... In my device there are some FunctionKeys and a small keyboard, the FuctionKeys should be responsed at the instance the user push it.     - My own autoupdater - problem Hello, I have created an autoupdater webservice for my PPC2003 application, and have managed to retrieve the download.cab from my web service on my device. Next, however, while trying to install the new version, I run into the fundamental problem of not being able to run the installer cab, since the old version of the application (which has spawned the autoupdate request) is still running. When wceload then tries to install the cab, it rightfully complains of a lock on the application executable, not being able to overwrite the currently runnning version. Of course the simplest workaround would be to let the user run the update.cab file after closing the application, but there is no guarantee my user base will be tech-savy enough to perform the necessary actions (that is, a) open an explorer and b) let wceload.exe execute the cab-file by clicking on it). I can think of some other options (create a process which kills the current user application), but they don't seem elegant, requiring much works for something that is or seems to be so simple.     - Using System.Net.Socket over gprs.. Hi folks, Experimenting with the idea of using system.net.sockets for some very simple 'push-messaging' over GPRS where the server/listener is running the mobile device and the client runs on a PC. I'm more than aware of all the issues surrounding change of ipaddress/availability etc relating to a mobile device connecting via GPRS. Right now, the device is connected and whilst testing it's ipaddress does not change or loose it's connection, unless there is something more subtle going on, the basic connection does not appear to be a problem. A very simple client/server app runs fine when the device is on the local network, but the client fails to connect to the mobile server when the server is connected with GPRS. However, switching the apps around and running the server on the PC and the client on the GPRS device works fine. It is almost like the provider is port blocking the incoming connection to the mobile device but allowing the outgoing connection (it's not a local firewall/router issue). Does this sound plausible, I'm using Orange in the UK (APN: orangeinternet)? I have also tried running an FTP server on the device, this works fine normally, but when trying to connect to it over the GPRS, it fails, as does trying to ping the device.     - Accessing source code Microsoft very kindly provided the .net framework & compact framework v1 as managed libraries that could be inspected using tools such as reflector if you wanted to see what was going on under the hood; however due to the change in how compact framework v2 libraries are constructed, the .dll files loaded onto the developers PC contain only metadata. has anybody an idea as to where I can get copies of the real run-time files that can be inspected as I currently have an exception being thrown from within the Control.Text "get" accessor (being called from within the Control.Text "set" accessor) and would like to see what may be happening. I've found that -service "SMS" does sms text messages. -service "MMS" does MMS text messages. However, I can't find the one for E-mail !! This means that whenever I call Pocket Outlook again, it defaults to using the previous setting (i.e. SMS or MMS). My problem is that the button is not visible after changing the tab page. but if I click at the position where the button should be, the button is clicked. In my application the button is located at the bottom left corner of the panel. so, the position of the button is covered by the menu, if I open it. after opening and closing the menu the button is suddenly visible. so I thought that the problem is that the button was not repainted. but adding Refresh() and Invalidate() methods of the panel, tabcontrol, tabpage, button does not solve the problem.     - Switching between networks I have a VB.NET 2003 application running on a CE 4.2 device, that connects wirelessly to an SQL Server 2000 database running on a PC network. The device also connects via the internal 802.11b card to a wireless portable printer. I have both of these parts of the application running OK, but my problem is that I have to manually switch between the 2 connections. I need my application to do this automatically. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I also have a problem with IP addresses. Currently, when connected to the network, the CE device receives an automatic IP address, but with the printer I have to set up a static IP address. Can this be set up from the application, or am I better off using one static IP address for both parts.     - CF 2.0: INotifyPropertyChanged doesn't behave good with ListBox Hi to everyone, I've faced, and found a workaround, for the following problem: 1. Having a collection of objects implemented through BindingList<OrderRow> 2. OrderRow implements INotifyPropertyChanged to track changes to properties, in particular to the quantity one. The collection is bound to a ListBox via BindingSource. When I add/remove items from the collection, the listbox gets updated the correct way. If I add the same objects multiple times to the collection the listbox updates _only_ the quantity of the object displayed on the first row! E.g.: Nr. 1 - My first row Nr. 1 - My second row Adding another 1 quantity of "My first row" produces: Nr. 2 - My first row Nr. 1 - My second row This holds true for each quantity of "My first row" added. Adding another 1 quantity of "My second row" produces: Nr. 2 - My first row Nr. 1 - My second row During debug I found the quantities gets updated correctly in the collection. Also, after struggling, found that replacing the listbox with a datagrid solved the problem. What's wrong with ListBox? Thanks for your help.     - CF 2.0: Problem with DataGrid and decimal column Hi to everyone, This is the very first application I'm writing in C# .Net 2.0 for a Smart device. I've a class which, among its properties, there's one whose type is decimal. This class' instances are bound to a datagrid via BindingSource. When debugging via the emulator the datagrid correctly reports the value in the decimal property. Deploying the application to the pocket pc (WM 5.0) everything works ok except for the decimal column. E.g.: If the property has a value of 0.52, the emulator displays 0.52 (as I expected), while on the pocketpc it displays 52! Summing up the column values for each row in the datagrid actually produces the sum of only the fractionary parts! I've read over the internet that with CF 1.1 there was a problem with decimal columns, is it true? Does this still holds true for CF 2.0? Thanks in advance for your help.     - What happens when using VGA device?! Hello, I developed an application for a qvga device (240x320). Therefore I used Formfactor = "Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC". Now it should possible run on a vga device (480x640). Can I use the same application to run on a qvga device AND on a vga device without any changes?! Or do I have to change the FormFactor to "Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC VGA". And when I do it, what happens when running the app on a qvga device?! I used several images (230x160 i.e.). What happens when changing FormFactor to "Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC VGA"? Are they shown as 230x160 as well?! Or do I have to take note of s.th.?!     - my app is loosing 1.5MB mem per day?! Hello, I'm getting confused. I updatec CF to 1.0 SP3. I call Dispose() for every object which provides it. I added finalizers and impemented IDisposable interface for each of my classes. I had made some statistics with performance counters. Now I'm checking memory status with GC.GetTotalMemory() & GlobalMemoryStatus(). It seems that I'm loosing 1kB per minute - circa 1.5MB per day. GC.Collect() leaves behind some memory unfreed. Hi, I'm writing an app in C# (2.0 framework) using Visual Studio Professional 2005 and have a strange error which shows up in my debug output window as: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll It happens when I try to change the datasource of a combobox (at runtime) in response to a change in the selected item of another combobox. My application appears to run normally, but the datasource doesn't change. When I step through the code in debug the datasource contains valid data. Also, the problem doesn't occur every time the code is executed - it seems there are special circumstances which trigger it but I can't figure out what those are.     - Send Email in Pocket PC Hi, I'm new to programming in the Compact Framework, and am finding that doing something that should be straightforward incredibly difficult! I want my app (written in C# using CF 1.0) to create a new Email Message on the Pocket PC, passed params such as Subject, To, Attachments etc. I'd prefer if it automated the New|E-mail Message so that if there wasn't a current connection it would save to the Outbox. I've downloaded and compiled the POOM but was surprised to see this only gives access to Contact information! Not able to send an email from that. BTW I've noticed there are 3rd party libraries such as Mooseworks etc but can't something as simple as this be done without resorting to these libraries? When I try to do something simple like this: Form frm = new frmChange(); frm.ShowDialog(); It crashes on ShowDialog(), I have even put it in a try,catch to see if I can catch anything, but no, it just plain crashes and closes the whole application. The connection string properties for SqlCe are a reduced set of those available for the full .NET framework. Initial Catalog, User ID, don't show up in the documentation. I'm not sure if it is explicitly required, but normally, the connection is opened before the command is created. Also, you need to create a SqlCe... Connection, Command, etc.. as opposed to a Sql...     - PDA with usb host support and programming on VS2003 Hi, I was looking for a PDA with USB host controller so that I can connect a USB dongle that could be recognized by it. Also are there any PDA's that anybody has come across wwith RS232 support. I know that we can use the serial port of the PDA that is used for Active-Sync. However since that is proprietary, is there any way i could get a standard serila port output. Is there any third party hardware/software that could be used for this conversion. We currently have USB device that connects to a PC and gets recognized as serial port device.This USB device emulates a serial device. The program to control it is written in VS2003.Now I would like to know if there are any PDA's that would allow me to connect this USB device( I could change the firm ware to behave as USB rather than emulate a serial device). Alternatively i could also change the design to a serial port if there are any PDA's that would allow serial communication. Can i use VS2003/pocket pc SDK for doing similar work on a PDA? I need to upgrade from CF1.1 to CF2.0, for the moment the only way i
have to do that, is to repair my PC CF2.0SP1, wich deploy on the
device.

Where can i get the good CAB corresponding to this installation. ?
I can't found t on microsoft website ...

CE 4.2 CABs are not deployed by VS and/or NETCF MSI. You need to deploy them
manually.

For PPC 2003 and WM 5.0 devices you could use AS Add/Remove programs dialog
at any time.
