    - p/invoke problem with string containing utf-8 characters Hi I have a problem recieving strings containing non-ascii characters. The following code sets up the p/invoke: DllImport("Nccdll.dll", SetLastError = false)] static extern unsafe int NccWrapperReceive(StringBuilder msg, int size); The actual function (C) in the dll looks like this: int NccWrapperReceive(LPWSTR msg, int size) This usually works, but when the msg parameter contains a character above 0x7E, that character and any following characters "disappear".     - New projects in VS.NET 2005 I've today installed VS.NET 2005 Beta2. I'm now located at "New Project" window, inside Visual C# and Smart Device section. There are 3 sub-groups here: 1) PPC 2003 - "A project for creating a .NET Compact Framework 2.0 forms application for Pocket PC 2003 and later". I understand a Device Project targeting PPC 2003 will work without problems in Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5.0. 2) Smartphone - "A project for creating a .NET Compact Framework 1.0 forms application for Smartphone 2003 and later". Only supporting CF 1.0? I suppose it's because I'm working with Beta 2. 3) Windows CE 5.0 - "A project for creating a .NET Compact Framework 2.0 forms application for Windows CE 5.0 and later". If I want to develop an application that can target Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5 and can run in as much devices as possible, I understand I should choose Option 1, that is, PPC2003. Is the most common choice for developers with same requirements I have? Could somebody explain me a little bit this mess of new projects? What else does "Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC" give me? Only emulators? And finally, would be possible to develop an application that could run both on PocketPC and SmartPhone?     - Deployment question: dekstop shortcut Hi. How can I create a shorcut on the desktop when installing my application using the cab file. Creating a shortcut in the start menu is no problem.     - Annoying sound in TextBox when pressing ENTER Hi everybody, I'd like to ask for a little help regarding some annoying sound when I press ENTER on TextBox. My device running WinCE 4.2 gives the sound like "illegal key", however the ENTER is handled. This sound is independent of TextBox.AcceptReturn. I've tried handling e.Cancel in KeyPress, KeyUp and KeyDown, I've tried even creating custom class deriving from TextBox and overriding KeyPress, KeyUp and KeyDown events, but with no success.     - Architecture Walkthrough Hello, I'm developing my first real CF application for PocketPC, and I'd like to start a dialog about the architecture I should use based on my requirements. I have read through the MSDN materials, but they all seem focused on the device directly accessing the Server in a variety of ways. This does not fit my requirements, so I'm seeking other options. The basic flow is: 1) .NET PC program prepares data from a database. 2) Data is transferred to the device. 3) Device is carried to the field, where the data is updated. 4) Device is brought back to the home computer and data is trasnferred back to the PC. 5) PC program allows the user to review/edit data prior to updating the database. The PC loads the data into a DataSet, so I know I can use the DataSet.WriteXML() method to create an XML file to transfer the data, but I have some questions: 1) Transfer where and how? 2) Is there a way through the file system to guarantee I'll always find the right path on the Device? 3) Can I even access the devices file structure theough my program? 4) Do I need to serialize the file, or is straight XML text sufficient? Once I have the XML file on the device, what should I do with it? I figure I have two options: 1) Use ReadXML() to populate my runtime application. The size of my data should be fairly small, so this won't really be a problem, but won't I need to re-create the XML file every time the user makes a change? Also, according to the docs, relative paths are not allowed in the CF. It seems I need a "Pathing Primer" for mobile devices. 2) Use SQL Server 2000 CE. I have found some information about this, and I'm pretty comfortable with ADO.NET, so this is an attractive option, but I can't seem to find any solid information about licensing, installation, distribution, etc. I'm going to have to come to grips with this eventually, so if anyone has any good links or tutorials, that would be appreciated. I guess my biggest frustration is that all the examples I can find of mobile development center on Synchronization directly with servers, and that's not what this project requires.     - How to create a "EnsureNetwork()" method ? Hi, I'd like some help or good practice in order to make a "EnsureNetwork()" method. This method should either check there is network available (typically WIFI) or connect GPRS connexion (the one configured as default connexion on the device). I made some tests, and on my device, a web service call automatically connect the default connexion. A Sql Ce merge replication synchronize() method does not.     - Setting the width of a tab control When I drop a tab control on a form, I'm unable to set it's width property. At always wants to be as wide as the form. It won't let me set the width in the property in the property box, and dropping the tab control into a panel will only limit the visible portion of the tab control, it still is wide as the form.     - FlowLayoutPanel for Compact Framework I noticed that the FlowLayoutPanel does not exist in the .net compact framework. I need to take a dataset and use it to add buttons to the appropriate tab of a TabControl object. This works great in the full framework: Add a docked FlowLayoutPanel and then loop through your buttons and add them to the panel. If there are a lot, it just scrolls nicely. Does anybody know about a workaround for this in Compact framework? I suppose I could always keep track of where the last button has been placed, and then add the new button a few pixels below, but that limits flexibilty. If I wanted to make the buttons flow to the right and then down, I would need to recode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - PDA connecting to device via serial port I'm bound to buy a glucometer that can communicate with my iPAQ h5550 via Bluetooth and serial port. I think I need an adapter because my PDA does not have any serial port. What exact adapter or cable do I need? Is not enough with the PDA-PC synchronization cradle and cable? In Running Programs there is only one position representing my application. When user click Activate, system should show top form of my app and when user close it, system must show previous one and so on. 2. Since the SqlCeResultSet is new to me I was hoping someone could point out what needs to be converted to support using a resultset instead of a DataTable.     - How to determine when InputPanel type changed Hi, all. I'm trying to determine when the InputPanel changes type (from Keyboard to Transcriber for example). Does anyone know how I could do this? I have a PocketPC application that uses the InputPanel.EnableChanged event in order to resize the interface to accomodate the InputPanel. However when the InputPanel changes to a type that is of different size (the Transcriber uses much less real-estate than the others), the EnabledChanged event does not fire and thus I don't know to resize the interface. Am developing the application to play video files in Windows CE.NET 4.2
emulator. It invokes media player and plays the audio. But not video. It
asked some codecs to play the video. I downloaded the QASF dll (to play WMV)
and tried the same. But no improvement.

Can anyone help me in this case.

Am using Windows Media Player 9.0, WinCE 4.2 Emulator, and using C# to code
the application.
