    - The page cannot be displayed I have several linkbuttons in my main page (default.aspx), and each of them has a Javascript funtion that handles the click event and launch a new web page. Some pages are launched without any parameters (a query string) (window.open(Admin.aspx, '', 'menubar=0, resizable=1, scrollbars=1, left=0, top=0, width=200, height=100');), some pages do require parameters (window.open(CatPage.aspx?CatNo=' + catNumber + ', '', 'menubar=0, resizable=1, scrollbars=1, left=0, top=0, width=200, height=100');) CatNo is the parameter I refered to. If I keep launching/closing the Admin page (admin.aspx), I keep the main page "live." If I just keep refreshing the main page, or launching/closing the Cat page (CatPage.aspx), the main page "lives" for about 15 minutes, then I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error when launching the Cat page or refreshing the main page.     - ObjectDataSource - Select - Nullable parameter Hello, Have an objectdatasource with a method much like this: public SomeDataSet.MyDataTable getMyDataTable(int? pkID) { if (pkID == null) return adapater.GetMyTable("ALL") else return adapter.GetMyTable("SING") } When I configure the objectdatasource I tell it to call this method for the select. In the define parameters if I give it a value of 1, or 2, or some other integer works fine.     - Authenticate against Active Directory I am modifying an app for a customer in ASP.Net 1.1. The app is running on a server outside their network, yet they want to authenticate users against their internal active directory set up (they will open the necessary ports). So, I have a simple login page with username and password, and then I will authenticate that credentials entered against their AD server. I am having a real hard time figuring this out. We can't use Windows Forms Auth, so I need to do it all manually in code. On the System.DirectoryServices namespace I can't find what methods I need to connect to their AD using SSL and then to authenticate the user. I've found a lot online using Forms Auth and ADAM, but nothing has really fit what I'm doing. Could anyone point me to a tutorial or outline what methods, etc I need to use to accomplish this?     - How to float a menu on the right within a div? Hi, I have a div to provide a background image for a menu. I'd like to position the menu on the right side but I can't seem to find a right way of doing it. The only way the menu will move to the right if I set text-align=right in the div. The problem is that menu items are then also aligned on right side. Not only that but this alignment works only in IE. Could someone please let me know how to right-align the menu?     - Menu/SiteMap question - visibility Let's say I have an ASP.Net menu, with a datasourceID of a siteMapPath, which of course is based on a web.sitemap file Based on the person logged into the page, I have code in files in the App_Code folder which gets their job code, by which I need to let some people see some things (some root nodes and sometimes it's a sub node) and other people not see things. However, I don't know how to refer to the Menu Items in code As I understand it, if I built a menu item manually, it would be something like this: <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Default.aspx" Text="Website Home" Value="Home"></asp:MenuItem> But, in the web.SiteMap file, it is something like this: <siteMapNode title="Website Home" url="~/default.aspx" description="Website Home"></siteMapNode> but nothing for the 'value'. So, if I hard coded the items, The 'Text' property in the MenuItem control, here, matches up with the title attribute in the siteMapNode. Therefore, I could refer to them by their value (in this case, "Home"), but if it's based on the web.SiteMap file, there's no 'value' attribute. Any ideas here?     - Problem with session variables Hello I have an ASP.NET app (VS 2005) that requires users to login and then presents some private information to users. The user identity is kept after login by session variables. (cookies) Everything goes OK as long as users connect directly to the web server. However, when conecting thru an ISA server, sometimes one user sees information belonging to another recent user. The web server is configured for immediate page expiration. Any ideas?     - How to make a multi-line textbox to fill gridview's column in edit view? Hi, I have a multi-line textbox in a gridview when in edit mode. The textbox (rendered as textarea in browser) set cols to 20 by default. I'd like the textbox to 'adjust' itself to the width of the column. There are cases when the column is much wider than the textbox. I could programmatically set cols (through Columns property) but this is not going to work. Is there a way to do that?     - filter ilist I have a custom class QBank with a public property called QBankID. I populate the ilist(to QBank). when the iList is populated, is there a way i can filter on the QBankID property for where it = x. I could filter this in the database call.. but i'd like to bring back a larger dataset and only make one call to the database for the data retrieval, then in code filter for the id i want, work on that.. and than filter for another id and so on. i'm just trying to limit my db calls. Something usually less than a full function such as a quick if/then loop or math function. To do that, I usually create a new page, put my code on there, do some response.writes, then compile and run. But this is tedius and I'm sure there's a better way.     - Speed up my nested repeater! Hey all, I have a gridview which pulls from a BLL which pulls from a DAL (an .XSD file). Each row on that gridview has a nested repeater which pulls from another table. The code which populates each nested repeater is shown below (it's in the gridview's RowDataBound event). My question is this: what can I do to speed up this process? Currently EVERY time a new gridview row is generated the code reaches out to the database, grabs the specific records for the nested repeater, and closes the connection. This can be a huge overhead if many master records are displayed. Naturally my inclination is to grab ALL the records needed in one database pull and then relate them in the codebehind, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this given the current structure (with a DAL and all). Does anyone have any suggestions to increase efficiency here?     - Ajax error when using response.write() I'm brand new at ajax. In fact, about 20 minutes ago was the first time I got it to work. The problem I'm having on another page did not work, however. I'm running into the following error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near 'greengreengreengreen'. This is my code. The strBorder variables is filled with an RGB color string from the code behind page, ie, the color Green (as noted in the error message I guess). I'm basically changing the color of a text box border based on what is being returned from the database.     - How to auto-select a GridView row that is being edited? Hi, I'd like to the row being edited to be also selected. That is, I don't want one row to be selected while another row is being edited. If a user clicks on the 'Edit' button I'd like the Select to be executed first, followed by Edit.     - path reference issue with a single masterpage and subfolders on a There is probably some simple answer to my question, but i'm still new to this a bit.. I have a master page.. with a menu system which is coded onto the masterpage.aspx... it uses A tags with hrefs etc.. the usual stuff.. I also have a sub section on the site.. where aspx files arent in the root.. ie: /rootfiles.aspx here.. then /subsection/subfiles.aspx The menu is fine and dandy with the usual relative references like <a href="default.aspx" > for the root page.. but when you are say /subsection/subfiles.aspx all the menu items paths are incorrect. So at this point i figure i have two or 3 choices.. I could one, make a seperate masterpage in the subsection (not desired).. or.. I can just do a search in the request.path variable for the word "subsection" and if it exists, then dynamically change all the menu items href paths to the correct format.. ie: if in a subsection, href becomes ./default.aspx for the root page.. In doing this second option, it seems i have to do the same thing on the masterpage.aspx.. as there is a <link css/file.css> reference in there and this cant be changed, only on the aspx file itself (ie: i cant reference it in codebehind in the page load event). Any thoughts on this? If these options are the best ones.. would it be a bad idea to make all the menu links runat="server", so that i can access the href property from the page load event and set all the values in that procedure.. or would i be just as good to do all the checks in the embedded c# code in the aspx page itself.. albeit a bit more messy but all client side?     - The located assembly's manifest definition with name '.....' does not I have an ASP project written years ago that I have recently started to try and update. It was written by someone who used to work here before me, and the source code I have is in a major mess. There is just one (of many) DLL file that once I recompile I get the error mentioned above. The located assembly's manifest definition with name '.....' does not match the assembly reference (see snippet for full detail). It appears as though the dll in question was encrypted with the strong name utility, and hence trying to recompile from scratch without the original .snk file means it is error'ing out. - At least that is the view I get from the last line "WRN: Comparing the assembly name resulted in the mismatch: PUBLIC KEY TOKEN" From browsing around i've tried some of the things mentioned by other people, deleting all other instances of the dll, deleting ASP temporary files etc but none help I have tried using the Microsoft utility 'Assembly Binding Log Viewer' for more information but whatever I do it just gives a blank window. So what are my options here? Without the original public or private key can I proceed in any way?     - Need help with Gridview Hi, I am trying to display data from a database on to the website in a table format using Gridview. The problem is that each cell contains alot of data and so, when I try to show this in the gridview the cells get stretched too large to show it properly on the page. One idea I had to remedy this is to have the data "cutoff" at a certain number of characters and have the cell so that when it is clicked a Multiline Textbox at the bottom of page show entire content of the "clicked" cell. My question is, how can I take the data and modify it for the gridview before the page loads? I am new to this, but I am looking at the Gridview events and I am wondering if using the "onDatabinding" or "onDatabound" event is what I can use to accomplish this?     - 'securing' cookies/login info This is an issue I brought up probably a year or so ago, got some advice, then was sidetracked on the project until now. So, here I am again. ;o) The situation is that we have an older chunk of code I've been tasked to maintain 'as-is'. It's a CMS we wrote in ASP.net 1.1 about 4 years ago. It works. But we have one major issue and that's when people log in, maybe 5% of the time, the end up with someone elses credentials. There's multiple things we're likely doing wrong here, so I'll try to explain all the variables that would effect this and then ask some specific questions: - a user logs into one of 3 separate apps - login function is called, which checks their credentials in the DB and then writes a cookie with their credentials - every page in the CMS (regardless of which of the 3 apps they are in) loads a usercontrol onto the page. This usecrontrol then reads said cookie and sets the value of various PUBLIC SHARED variables. Things that I know are bad: - the fact we used 3 apps. This should be one app. - we're storing credentials in a cookie. Quite insecure (though not the end of the world in this case) - the way I'm reading in the cookie data What happens: - most of the time, nothing. But, once in a while you can tell that a person has just logged in and from the time they hit LOGIN to the time the server sends them their web page, someone else has done the same and the usercontrol reads in the data of SOMONE else's cookie. If the end-user refreshes the page, then they're back to their cookie. What I could do: 1) rewrite the app in asp.net 2.0 and use the built in permissions/roles system 2) have the cookie only write out their logged-in status and their username, then check that against the DB each time 3) Not use cookies but session state instead? 4) Fix my bad usercontrol/Public Shared variables? Option 1 and 2 are out as I'm supposed to be touching this code as little as possible. Are option 3 and 4 viable? What, exactly, is causing my issue (cookie data being sent to the wrong user?) Is it as simple as fixing the way I'm reading the cookie? Is it better to use session state? IIRC the last time I went through this, the main issue is the 'SHARED' variable, which allows every instantiation of it to be 'the' most updated version that everyone reads. However, I can't remove SHARED as I can't then access that property from the page that loads the usercontrol.     - How do I put computed values in 'formview' I have a formview control, with labels arranged in a table. The labels are bound to fields from a query. But I also want to sum up the values in the table and put them in a row of totals at the bottom. What I find is that the labels in the table are not accessible from the code-behind page. I published a ASP.NET 3.5 web site to my test box and its not working. The
server has 3.5 framework installed on it, but when I load the page, its
erroring out saying:

'unable to find assembley system.linq'

Do I need to install anything else on the server?
