    - How to handle deleted rows This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0008_01C4CB58.39DB7220 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I am using databinding with a few textboxes. I also have a grid on a = separate screen where I show the entered data plus more details. I can go into the grid the delete records. When I later reopen the grid, if I have deleted all of the rows, I will = add a single new row to the grid. Part of this process for adding the = new row is that I get the ID, which is a guid, of the row that I have = added and set that to a property within my class. In order to set the currency manager, I need to get the ProposedCostID = of the new row and loop through each row until I get the index of the = row. (NOTE: you cannot use a Find on a column that is a GUID, I found = that out the hard way). Once I have the index, I can set the currency = manager. I then use this property to set the currency manager so that the data on = the screen will be bound to the correct record. The real problem below = is that the index retrieved is not really the index, it just happens to = be that way because of the way I set the counter.     - AutoIncrement not incrementing I have a dataset with about 12 tables in it. I'm using this to support a little demo app I'm building for proof of concept for a potential client and there's no backend database involved. When I add record to a to the dataset table all goes well except the autoincrement field stays at zero. this is also the PK field for the table. I set the AutoIncrement property to True, AutoIncrementSeed to 1 and AutoIncrementStep to one but its still not added a value. I even removed all the data from the table and tried again to no avail. also just after I add the datarow to the table I all the AcceptChanges() method but that didn't seem to have any effect. I've tested the DataReader and it has data and is set up right. Now I'm trying to use the ASP.NET Repeater WebControl to display the data. It uses adox to create a new empty database if one doesn't already exist. This works fine on the development machine but on trying a test deployment (to a Win2K PC) the step to create the new database fails as an unhandled exception with the error 'Interop.ADOX or one of its dependencies was not found' Now AFAICS interop.adox.dll was included as part of the .msi installation package and can be found in the application folder. MSadox.dll wasn't for some reason packaged (actually I think it was a permissions problem) but I moved it manually to the program folder. Obviously something is not right in this scheme of things.     - Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 records. Wanted to post my scenario about this error message for others to benefit from... I was getting this error on a certain table and could not figure out why to save my life. I use the same data access strategy for all DA objects and was not having the problem with any other object/table. Here's what was going on: The Update proc generated by the Data Adapter Configuration Wizard creates 2 fields for every one... one for the current value and one for the "Original" value. I had a table with these columns: Logon_ID Username Password Original_Username Original_Password You should start to see the problem now. What happened was the DACW creates a parameter for the Username called "Original_Username", then I ALSO had the real field name "Original_Username". ADO.NET got confused and thought that the field had changed because it was looking at the wrong field, and it threw the "Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 records." error. I changed my field names to O_Username and O_Password and it was fixed. I liked to never found this. It was a real problem for a couple days. So, I wanted to share this info. I've had other problems like this stemming from using certain words for/in field names, so I've resolved to, at my next project, come up with a prefix to put in front of all column names. It will be kind of clumbsy when working directly in the Db (SQL), but the names can then be abstracted (the prefix can be stripped) in the business objects. I have a .NET assembly that is used as a COM-Server by another application. That application uses ODBC 2 and the ODBC driver returns the results in the version 2 way. After the app initializes the COM Server an my assembly connects to the same database using the same driver, the ODBC driver returns the result codes in the version 3 way. To the driver the app and the COM-Server appear as one process because it is an Inproc-Server. That confuses the app because statements like "delete from tableXYZ where 1=2" now return SQL_NO_DATA instead of SQL_SUCCESS. Anything but SQL_SUCCESS ist treated as an error by the SQL libs of that app. Sad but true.
