    - Get deleted rows from a datatable Hi all, I've a DataTable, and from my UI a such user deletes one or more rows from it, I wish to get the deleted rows from the DataTable. I have to perform a loop trough the deleted rows and invoke the Row.Accept changes method, but if I try something like this: dim rX as DataRow For Each rX in MyTable.Rows If rX.RowState=RowState.Deleted Then rX.AcceptChanges End If Next I get an execption: the collection is changed.     - Connection state open even without a server or database? I test for a connection when I load a particular form, so as to prevent other more ghastly exceptions further into the logic. However, I've noticed that even with NO viable connection string, the connection object state shows open. Anyone see something I'm overlooking here?     - Stored Proc Params in TableAdapter In VS 2005, when configuring a table adapter to use stored procedures for Inserts, Updates, and Deletes, it appears you can only map each parameter to a column in the Select procedure's result set. Is it possible to specify a literal value for some of the parameters instead? Or would it be necessary to add the literal value to the result set of the Select procedure?     - MS SQL 2005 Configuration ??? Greetings, I'm fairly new to ASP.NET/ADO.NET and SQL. I worked out a few issues with the help of some nice folks here. Now, I'm starting a clean Web site project but am having trouble right off again. I'm trying to create a new database using MS SQL Server 2005. I entered localhost as the Server name, selected Use Windows Authentication, and entered a new name for my database. When I click OK, I get the following error: Microsoft Visual Studio An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) As far as I know, localhost does not indicate a remote connection. I eventually connected to a database previously with SQL Express Edition, so I'm guessing this might have to do with my SQL configuration. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 on a new C#/ASP.NET project. I'm running Windows XP Professional w/SP2. Sorry, but virtually every suggestion I get will probably need to include instructions on how to do--I'm quite new to this.     - Leftover Connections in Connection Pool (connection leak) This never happened before in .NET Framework 1.0 nor .NET Framework 1.1, but connection leak happens if you don't close the connection when you use SqlTransaction. I would like to share this information with the MS dev community. We had this issue of SQL Server performing very poorly while running our application. My colleague found out that connection leak was happening whenever the .NET code executed transactions. So I created a small console program that does a transaction like the following. So I added Conn.Close() right after Trans.Commit(), then the leak was gone. Well, I could have done Trans.Connection.Close(), but the thing was that right after the transaction was committed, Connection property was null. So as we have a data layer that doesn't expose the underlying connection, we had to define a variable as SqlConnection and hold onto the reference to the connection from the transaction and the close it after commit. I hope I explained this issue well, but this never happened in .NET Framework 1.1. We converted our code from 1.1 to 2.0, and didn't change a thing, but this issue came out.     - Adding new object to Typed Data Set and return the primary key Hi, I have started using Typed Data Sets with VS2005 and so far so good, however I am having a problem with adding a row to a data table and returning the new Primary Key value. My data set has been auto generated from a DB table and has an auto generated Primary Key for the ID field. I create the row using ProjectsDataTable.NewProjectsRow() However the code that returns this Project Row does not persist the data table as it is a method on my singleton object. Once the new row has been populated with data I call an update method on the singleton which then creates a new table adapter. My problem is how to add this orphaned row to the database and return the Primary Key that the database creates for it. I have tried many of the different methods that are created by default in the TypedDataSet however so far the only one that works is the TableAdapter.Insert() method and this does not return the primary key. Method 1: DataAdapter.Update(myProjectRow) // fails I guess because the row has no connected DataTable Method 2: newDataTable = DataAdapter.GetData(); // returns eg a data table containing 4 rows. newDataTable.ImportRow(myRow); // data table still contains 4 rows no error generated. DataAdapter.Update(newDataTable); // does nothing as there is nothing to update Please does anyone have any insight into this or do i have to go back to the good old way of manually executing the SQL or dumping my data singleton and manually creating and persisting the data table for the form that creates the new project ? Another strange thing is that the if i return a project from the singleton (which does not persist the data table) then call the same update method ( on the singleton which creates a new data adapter) the updates are commited. Is something strange with the primary key going on ?     - Why can't the .NET Datagrid show datetime columns with time ? Hi, I am using .NET Framework 1.1 and VS.NET 2003 I am pulling a recordset from an ORACLE database into a Windows Forms form and displaying the data in a datagrid.. Trouble is, even though the data includes datetime fields, the datagrid absolutely refuses to display them at runtime in proper datetime format (just shows . I know the time information is there because I can export to csv and the time is in each field.     - Unicode and long data type I have an application where a limited amount of Unicode data is being inserted into a long data type field by an AIX program. I have written a dotnet program that copies the data from one domain to another with parameterized data. Everything works except for the Unicode data in the long field. My Characterset info is: NLS_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16 Regional Settings are English (United States) A basic default U.S. installation of Windows. I do not have much control over the database. I have read that long data types do not support Unicode. Is there anyway I can insert Unicode data into a long data type from a dotnet program? I have tried everything I can think of, I have even tried copying examples from books and websites I have found, but every Formview control that I have tried to create does not show the Paging controls. The first record from the DataSource is displayed, but not the Paging controls. I want to show these related items on a winform with either textboxes or datagridview controls. If I use the dataset designer to create a strongly-typed DS it will bring into memory ALL the records in each table and then select a subset according to the relations I have set when the user selects a CUSTOMER. Of course, this is completely impractical when you have any quantity of rows in any of the tables since they cannot all be brought into memory. All the examples I see use the above approach for demonstration, but this doesn't seem practical in a real world app. So how do I do this right from the beginning? Do I create queries with a param for the relation between the parent and child table and then respond to a row change event? My DataGrid has a boolean column (wich not allows null value) and a TextBox column with some decimal values, I wish that when a user checks the boolean column a TextBox in the form will display the computed sum of the rows "checked". But I have noticed that the RowChanged event fires when I change a row (doh!) but only after I've changed the current cell or after the grid has lost the focus.     - dataset fill brings all records? VS 2005 pro. I have a strongly typed dataset which I generate using the designer. From the xsd file I set the relations between the CONTACTS table to the ORDERS table to the ORDERITEMS table. Then I put some DataGridViews on the form and open. In the Load event of the form the Fill methods are used in the three tables. As I step through by line, I can see the CONTACTS (1500 rows) is pretty quick and the ORDERS (55,000 rows) is slower but the ORDERITEMS (5 million + rows) churns on and on until I run out of memory. If I leave out the ORDERITEMS datagridview, the form opens and the parent-child relations are good. It seems like the Fill method is taking ALL the rows from the DB and only displaying the subset I want based on CONTACT. I would have thought that it would only "hit" the DB when it had a record in the CONTACTS table as a parent. I have two tables CONTACTS with PK=IDNUM and ORDERS with a field CUSTNUM. Both tables have CommandStrings like "Select <field list> from TableName..." (neither has a where clause) In the visual designer for the xsd file I have set a relationship between CONTACTS->IDNUM and ORDERS->CUSTNUM. In a Windows form I have two DataGridView controls, one for each table. When I run the program, the Orders table never follows the Contact table when it scrolls. To me, setting the data relation should have resulted in the child table filtering its results based on the parent, but obviously not.     - Gridview deletion problem I created a form, a datasource (Product table from AdventureWorks) from the Data Sources tab, and dragged the Product table from the Data Source tab to the form's designer surface. This created a dataset, bindingsource, tableadapter and bindingnavigator. The underlying dataset shows false for HasChanges after the first click of the delete button and the selected row shows Unchanged for its RowState. However, after the 2nd click of the delete button, the dataset shows true for HasChanges and Deleted for the RowState associated with the row. What is wrong with my code?
