Excepting one field, none of the others fields require inputs. My question What is the best method to insert the records to a SQL db - calling the SQL insert i.e. "insert into...." OR Putting all the fields into a hashtable, and then calling a stored proc which will take about 25 params to add a record(doesn't seem to be good). Is there a good way of achieving this?     - Columns in a Dataview I have a table that is composed of an ID and two foreign keys. This table is used to relate two other tables. I'm using a dataview to display the data. The data can be edited, including changed, deleted and added. How should I set up the dataview columns so the user sees the choices from the two tables, but the third table (with the foreign keys) is filled in with the ID's from the two tables? Example tables: tbOne [OneID, OneDataField] tbTwo [TwoID, TwoDataField] tbThree [ThreeID, OneID, TwoID] I want the user to see OneDataField and TwoDataField in the dataview. If the value of OneDataField is not present in tbOne, then it needs to be added to tbOne. If the value of TwoDataField is not present in tbTwo, then it needs to be added to tbTwo. Finally, the ID for OneDataField and TwoDataField needs to be inserted in a new row in tbThree. I'm pretty sure I can do this - I just don't know how. Thanks so much for your help.     - "Thread was being stopped" while trying to connect to AS400 iSeries using .NET My codes blowing up with the "Thread was being stopped" exception when I try to create a data connection. Here's the line of (MS VC++ .NET 2003) code blowing out: SourceConn = new IBM::Data::DB2::iSeries::iDB2Connection(S"DataSource=ANTIGUA1;DefaultCollect ion=EMBTEST;UserID=PCS;Password=PCS;"); The Exception Source is IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries. Forum discussion shows this error turning up when a thread other than the main application thread attempts to update a UI control while running in the IDE. I'm not running in the IDE, but on a test workstation, using a Release compile. My application runs as a service, so there are no UI controls involved. Can anyone shed any light on this? thanks.     - Business Layer and Transactions in the Data Layer I have a BO that must call 2 functions each function residing in 2 different DO. BO->DO1.Update1 BO->DO2.Update2 Let's say that each DO call point to the same SQL Server. Let's say that each BO is on my Appserver and the 2 DOs on the SQL Server. I want to make a transaction so I am assuming that the BO is handling it. How do I create the transaction and the connections on the BO and DO's What about .NET Remoting in all this. If I create a SQLConnection in the BO and pass the SQLTransaction to the DO and try to enlist the connection(opened in the DO), the EnlistConnection takes only a transaction object but SqlTransaction cannot be converted to a Transactions.Transaction type ....     - Converting date formats Hi! I'm reading CSV-file using OleDB provider with SQL-select command and it's working fine. Anyway CSV-file contains "field" containing date values like 20060825, and I'd like to convert it into datetime format when reading it into DataTable like #8/25/2006#. How to do this? Propably I have to change select-query somehow converting this field into datetime format. Now I doing it in my code like...     - Change SelectCommand Runtime with Typed DataSet I have a DataTable setup and want to be able to change the columns at runtime so I limit the number of rows returned. I know you can have have multiple queries within a DataTable but they return empty columns which I don't want (or is there a way to stop empty rows being returned?). I guess this is due to the fact the queries under the main query inherit the data structure from the DataTable, is that correct? Is there any way this can be done?     - Saving a dataset to a different database Hi there, I am fairly new to webservices and C#and currently have a problem with updating data to a remote sql database from data entered into a local MS access database. The dataset I am using comprises of several tables. Once the webservice has the dataset some operations are performed so that the data can be included in the SQL database i.e. if a company already exists on the SQL database then the company id on the dataset is updated, and so on. As a result I cannot (I think) use the dataAdapter to post any modified records or new additions to the SQL database. As an added complication we cannot gaurantee which fields will be in each of the tables (although the access and sql databases have the same structure), this depends on the particular client. Which means that hardcoding the insert and update into the webservice is not an option. So far I have had no problems in building and transferring the dataset, same goes for updating the details held in the dataset ready for updating/inserting to the SQL database. I have tried to manually set the state of a row so that I could use the dataAdapter, i.e. DR.RowState = DataRowState.Modified; But this appears to be a read only attribute of DataRow that cannot be altered manually. I wrote a test windows application that connect to Oracle db with oracleclient but IT DOESN'T WORK ON THE WINDOWS 2003 SERVER. So I think It is not a security problem. On the windows 2003 server System.Data.OracleClient.dll v1.1.4322.2032 On my local XP System.Data.OracleClient.dll v1.1.4322.2300 My two week is gone to solve this problem.     - Why ImportRow is causing NullReferenceException & Rows(0) <> NULL Hello, I am receiving a System.NullReferenceException error when the ImportRow is executed. However, as you can see there are rows in the table and I can see the data in Rows(0) in the dsetTempPlaceInfoFromPt.Tables("Places").Item.ItemArray of QuickWatch. Thus it is not null. The dSetPlaces (where I am trying to copy the row to) does not have any tables or rows; is that the problem? Does the ImportRow automatically create the table "Places" in the dataset dSetPlaces if it is not there? Maybe that's my problem.     - ORA-03113 exception thrown Background - VB.NET v1.1 SP-1. Query Oracle database using Microsoft .NET provider for Oracle (System.Data.OracleClient). Exception is thrown using both get data methods: 1.) OracleCommand.ExecuteReader() 2.) OracleDataAdapter.Fill() Problem - A certain query which happens to contain a Group By and Sum throws an ORA-03113 exception. We traced through alert.log and other logs within Oracle and determined an internal exception of ORA-07445 was thrown when query was executed in the database. I can take the same query and execute it from other query tools fine: sqlplus, plsqldeveloper and etc. I noticed a hotfix that addressed something similar to this, but reading through the documentation this hotfix was included in .NETv1.1 SP-1. I've confirmed that I have SP-1 by looking in registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v1.1.4322\1033\SP value is 1. My TestOracleQuery project runs fine for all other Select statements except ones similar to one described earlier. Any help with this ORA-03113 is greatly appreciated. However, in a specific database, the same code throws this exception: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: The SQL statement could not be executed because it contains ambiguous outer joins. Up till now I have been experimenting and using strongly typed datasets as generated by VS. However as these provide a disconnected model, how can I prevent the loss of user data if the user PC crashes or dies for whatever reason. I imagine it would be inefficient to be performing writes to the database using datasets after every record is inserted. I like the binding and coding efficiency of using strongly typed datasets, however it would seem like there can be big overheads and risk in not updating to the database regularly.     - Oracle 10g Float and Double Database Datatypes are not supported Greetings, I have data values that are inherently of type Double. Current we are using Oracle Column Datatype NUMBER. When I create a TableAdapter in VS2005, the database table column information is read from Oracle and a new Table is created. However, the detected datatypes are always Decimal. Even if I change the datatype in the Database to a lower precision that would not exceed the precision of a Double, it is always detected as a Decimal. This forces me to cast everywhere, making the strongly-typed dataset, not as useful. Option 1: Now you might wonder, why not just change the datatype after the table is created. This does in fact work, but if you alter the Select statement later, the table is regenerated and since the datatypes no longer match what was found in the database, new columns are added with a "1" appended to the column name, which wrecks everything. So, I have to delete all the columns first, then make my SQL change, then go back and change all the datatypes back to what I need them to be. This sucks. Option 2: Use the new Oracle 10g BINARY_DOUBLE column datatype. This would be the preferred solution, but Microsoft apparently does not support it. Even though this may be perfectly matched with the precision of a System.Double. Option 3: Microsoft should detect the Precision and Scale of the NUMBER datatype in Oracle and use the appropriate .NET datatype instead of always using Decimal. I believe this is done is other MS products via ODBC, but not here... Question: Is there ANY numeric datatype I can use in Oracle that will be detected by the the MS Oracle Data Provider as a System.Double in the Strongly-Typed representation? I fear this answer is no. If it is, Microsoft should provide a hotfix to allow Option 2 or Option 3 to work. Without one of these solutions, maintenance will be a big pain. Other developers on my team, should be able to go into the Query Builder, check off a new column for the Select statement, and this should just add the new column, but this doesn't work.
