Hi,

I'm just wondering when I better should use an Sql Server or when a MSDE.
Whet are the advantages of one to another en the limits etc. And this
espacially when using them as databases for VB.NET-applications.

Any information would be great!

Thanks a lot in advance,

Pieter

you can start inspecting
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/overview/default.asp and
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/productinfo/default.asp ...
you can find there lot of info about differences among editions..

Hi Dragu,

MSDE je Sql Server sa nekoliko limitacija (concurrent connections, database
size, nema client alata...) i je besplatan ako ga distribuira¹ pored
aplikacije uradene s MS alatom.

Toliko, na brzo :-)

Hi again

(previous post was in wrong language :-S)
MSDE is basically a stripped down Sql Server (database size limit,
concurrent connections limitator, no client tools, etc), however MSDE is
free for distribution when it is distributed with an application build with
MS tools.

This is a very quick explanation :-)

Pieter,

(Do you speak Slowenian).

Beside the written shortcommings as you saw in the links from Martin,
misses MSDE as well things as intelligent search options. It is really a
very Basic SQL server.

Use MSDE when you don't expect there to be more than 10 concurrent
connections, and if you don't need replication services.
