    - looping through a dataview I am trying to loop through a dataview to collect rows after they have been sorted, and insert them into a new table. Here is a code snippet: DataView dv = (view of table of existing dataset) DataTable dt = new DataTable(); foreach (DataRowView drv in dv) { dt.Rows.Add(drv.Row); } This generates the error that the row belongs to another table.     - NULL values in textboxes Hi, I've bound a dataset to some textboxes. I want to change the text of a combobox to the NULL value instead of the text that is displayed in it. How is this possible, because when you delete the text, there will be an empty string. Also if the textbox is bound to a column with an integer, then an empty textbox won't be possible because '' isn't an integer. How can I solve these problems?     - getting data from sql server dbs.. PLEASE HELP! Can anyone be kind enough to help me plz? I am trying to get some value from the sql server database, such as as sum of prices(select sum(price) from ...) etc and display that number in a label. I have already created a label, know the sql statement but how do i put this data retrieved as the label content? I can make the connections to the database, write the sql string but not sure how to get the result as a label rather than a datagrid.. I have tried this as a datagrid using the dataset, adapter etc and display it as a data grid, it shows the results as blank.. i may be doing something wrong this way..I am not very experienced with asp.net so any advice much appreciated!!!     - ASP.NET freezes for large recordsets Hi, My application populates a datagrid that can contain up to 10000 result rows. The datagrid successfully populates and displays in the browser window. When I push a button to either navigate away from the page or clear the datagrid the page freezes and the browser indicates that it is not responding requiring me to restart the application. Has anybody had similar issues with ASP.NET. Am I trying to display to much data in a single html page resulting in memory issues for the browser?     - FAO MS: SqlCommand.Cancel() closes connection!!! Could anyone help me with the following problem! I open an SqlConnection. Then: 1. execute a reader on SqlCommand and get data through that reader; 2. in a certain time I call Cancel() method on SqlCommand and SqlDataReader.Close(). If I perform steps 1 and 2 several times (sometimes it happens even from the first time) I get the error which says that SqlConnection is closed. And it is. So, seems that SqlCommand.Cancel() in combination with SqlDataReader.Close() forces the connection to close. I can't determine the reason why it happens.     - SQl Server Bit Field and Databound Checkbox I have a SQL Server database with a bit field used as a boolean value. I created a Form with databound controls on it. Everything appears to run ok until you try and add a record using the currency manager's AddNew() method. During debugging I see the record count increment in the currency manager but the record Position ends up at zero and trying to set the Position to the new record will fail. If I unbind the Checkbox everything works as expected. Obviously the CheckBox cannot handle a Sql Server bit field but there are no errors generated and it took me 5 hours of work to trace this down. Has anyone else run into this bug? In my 20 years or so of programming I find ADO.NET and the .NET framework databound forms the slowest most awkward and frustrating way of doing things.     - SqlDataReader.GetValue() Hangs On W2003 Box I have a query that runs sucessfully on my W2000 box. The same exe on W2003 Server hangs. The code fragment is while (mySqlDataReader.Read()) string myString=sqlDataReader.GetValue (0).ToString(); Using the same executable and query on the W2000 box, I am able to process 100,000 rows successfully.     - access to sql -- synch process with ado.net i have an Access app with about 15k rows that will slowly grow (this is about a two years of data so far) indefnitely. The table structure is horrible in the access design (can not be changed, its a third party app) so on the sql side the table structure is totally different. What i need to do is pull out all these rows and compare them indvidually with the rows in sql and then update or insert into sql server table. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this to make it as fast and efficient as possible. I don't think dts is an option becuase the table structures are so different, the dts process would have to be really complex so i don't see the point. Here are the two scenarios i came with in a .net environment. 1) ado.net all the way >>>load the data from access into a datareader, load the data from sql into a dataset using a dataadapter to bind it to the sql server. iterate through the access reader, for each row, evaluate it against the dataset/table and either update, insert, or leave it alone. do this for every row in the data reader. resynch the data back to sql from the adapter. 2) individiaul sql statements >>> loop through the datareader, run a sql statement against sql and see if the row exists, or needs to be updated, run an insert or update statement against sql server and do this for each row in the access datareader. *** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com *** Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!     - Failed to enable constraints error... I have created a dataset which contains a parent child relationship based on a date, machine and batch number. After creating the batch (parent) record, pseudo: new dataset new parentdataadapter new childdataadapter select stmt for parent for one record I am able to successfully create a child record by opening a dataset and first retrieving the batch record, and then creating a child record. However, when I attempt to read the record I just created, I get the following error: "Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints." This record just passed the constraints when I wrote it?!?! I have double checked the key values and they match the parent record. I retrieved the parent record they associate with into the dataset before retrieving the child records. I can't see why this error is coming up. If someone has an "Oh yeah," that would be helpful. I can pull this code out and rework it as a small package if required, but since I have strongly typed datasets, and the table relationships, etc, I figured it is not easily reproduced. So far I've created the exchange account, and it looks good when viewing it in Exchange administrator (Exchange 5.5). How do I associate it to an active directory? I get the following exception message when I try to reopn a form window after closing it down (while the main MDI window is still running) "An unhandled exception of type 'System.Exception' occurred in system.windows.forms.dll Additional information: DataBinding could not find a row in the list that is suitable for all bindings" This message goes away when I unbind the datagrid object on the form from the datasource & datamember. This datagrid is bind to the Details DataRelation. whereas rest of the form is bind to the Master DataTable. Both the master and the DetailRelation table are in the same dataset. there is nothing fancy about the datagrid object it shows int type fields only and no checkbox or textboxes in it.     - "GetOleDBSchema" When i use "GetOleDbSchemaTable" to get the schema information of an Oracle table, it gets us numbers, in place of data types, when we connect to an Oracle 8 database, using the OleDB data provider from Microsoft.     - How to make multiple queries to the database.. Can anyone help? I am trying to do 2 things within the same sub method. Firstly, having made the connection to the SQL Server database and creating a new adapter, i have made a query to insert values in the database. This works fine.     - may have solved it I was building my project in debug mode and not release. I switched to release and in web.config file. I also added Finally to my trys and used this to do my object cleanup. I tested briefly on the web server and noticed the db stays nice and small and there is no .ldb locking file that shows up.     - ODBC Stored Procedure Problem If have a stored procedure that seems to work fine through query analyzer but if I attempt the same thing via code, no exceptions are thrown but no results are ever returned. I'm using the ODBC.NET dataprovider.     - AcceptRejectRule strange behavior This is an issue that I have seen many times in this forum but was never answered clearly. So here it is again: I have a parent child relation between table A and B this relation is mark with cascade Update and Casdade delete (because the database does the same) I also mark AcceptRejectRule to cascade so when the KEY (this is important) is modified I hope that the child will not try to re-update the database and cause a concurency exception. This part works pretty well. The problem arise when I add a parent and some children and then submit the changes to the dataadapter.update method. (and this even if the tables are sent independently, one update call for each table in the dataset) After the update of the parent table all the child are marked as unchanged! That's why nothing happen when I call the update method with the child table. Am I wrong or is this some thing strange. Nowhere did I tell that I want the Add to be cascaded. Am I missing the point around Cascade Update (I taugh it was for UPDATEs only not for inserts) So can someone give me (and many others) a work around for this problem other than: submit the parent add and after resubmit the children add. because this solution introduce too much coupling between the backend implementation and the client using the component.     - Cell of type integer won't clear Hello, I have a textbox which is bound to a field of type integer. Everything works fine, the number displays and can be updated etc.. However, when I delete the entry the number just pops right back, i.e. the field refuses to accept nothing. When I go into SQL Enterprise manager and try and delete the contents there I get a , "The value of the data type you entered is not consistent with the data type or length of the column" error. I do not get this error if I do the same thing with vchar field. It seems that I cannot reset the contents of the cell to DBNull, either in code or in SQL Manager. Any advice? I issue a select statement which is supposed to return lines from a table, but no line is returned. The method I use is an OracleDataAdapter that fills a DataTable. Strangely enough, after the Fill the DataTable has Columns corresponding to the columns in the requested table, but the Rows.Count is 0. I tried to use a OracleCommand with ExecuteReader() instead. If you are trying to send a type (i.e. your custom object)
over a network, or indeed storing to disk, .Net will
serialize your object into a stream.

However, it can only do this if your object implements the
ISerializable interface (useful for custom serialization)
or is marked with the Serializable attribute (simplest
method).

MSDN has a few articles. Hope this helps.
