    - DataGridView: Index -1 does not have a value Hi, I'm using the DataGridView in VB.NET 2.0. The DataSource is a Generic List of a custom class0: lstMyPersonnes = New List(Of clsPersonne). When I add a new clsPersonne to lstMyPersonnes, and rebind the lstMyPersonnes to my DataGridView.dataSource, it shows the new record in the DataGridView as it should be. But when I click on a cell of that row, I suddenly got this error: "Index -1 does not have a value"... Does anybody has any idea how to get around this problem?     - Help with adding stuff to a database please Im just converting an app to .net (using VB) and I decided to use ado.net also, rather than sticking with plain ado. I have got my queries running fine with datareaders, but I'm having a little trouble inserting records. I dont really want to use an SQL command as single quotes in strings often cause headaches, so I have the code below. I get an exception of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" at the line marked with * and checking my debug, workTable is still "nothing". I use the code for connectiong to datawindow as Public sqlca As Sybase.DataWindow.AdoTransaction Public con as oledb.oledbconnection 'con as oracle connection con.open() sqlca = New Sybase.DataWindow.AdoTransaction(con) sqlca.BindConnection() The connection and data aretrieved fine. At one part of time i get the error as "There is already an open DataReader associated with this Connection which must be closed first". if i use sqlca.unbindconnection() and do some database activities using oledbdataadapter and dataset. but i didn't use any datareader. When i bind the connection to sqlca as sqlca.bindconnection() i get the above error. Is there any datareader used by Sybase.DataWindow.AdoTransaction? Note: The database is in remote. retrival from clsong and opening connection takes a long time. How can i solve it without reconnecting to the database? Thanks in Advance S. However, I cannot add a record.     - How to capture sql command text when DbDataAdapter's Update is cal Hi, We are having a major debugging problem here and would like to take advices from anyone. In our app, we need to update our dataset using DbDataAdapter against Oracle database. Once we have issues, like invalid data or something like that, the update will fail but only with limited returned message.     - Event for Field Change I am a Delphi programmer who is excited about converting to .Net (however still novice in .Net), and I need your help to understand some data manupulation concepts. I am using I have a typed DataGrid bound to an access database, which has a table with 2 datetime fields: Date1 and Date2. I added an unbound column to the grid called ELAPSED, which will diplay the difference in days between the 2 dates. So the grid looks like this: DATE1 DATE2 DIFF ------------------------------------------ __/__/____ __/__/____ 999 days __/__/____ __/__/____ 999 days __/__/____ __/__/____ 999 days __/__/____ __/__/____ 999 days __/__/____ __/__/____ 999 days I wrote a method to calculate the difference in days (using TimaSpan), and I want to run this method for each row, as it's been "filled" from the database. Additionally, I want this method to be run as I change DATE1 or DATE2 in the grid, so that the it reflects the correct difference in days. Please help me to achieve this, explaining in what event(s) I should place the call to my method. PS: In Delphi I would put it in the TField's OnChange event...     - Multiple DataViews on the same DataTable appear to interact I have a DataTable that is being maintained in a Model class. I also have a View class which creates a DataView from the DataTable that the Model passes it. The view class then has methods to filter the contents of the DataView so that the user can narrow down the list to the items they are interested in. This all works fine as long as I only have a single instance of the View class, however whenever I create a second instance of the view class and have it make its DataView use the same DataTable I find that any filter applied to the DataView in one window is also applied to the DataView in the other form. Can anyone explain this to me? It seems that as long as I am using 2 independant DataViews (dim dv as new DataView(model.GetTable()) they shouldn't interact. I have a dataset which contains one table, in this table, for example, there are 10 records, where rec#1 - 5 have the same content in column(0) and rec#6-10 have the same content in column(0), now I want to concatenate another column(1) for records that have same content in column(0). that is, the new dataset should have only two record: rec1's column(1) contains the text from previous rec1-5, and rec2's contains previous rec6-10 Can anyone tell me how to do it?     - DataRow index within a DataRowCollection Is there anyway to determine the index of a DataRow within a DataRowCollection? I am using the Find() method of the DataRowCollection on my table to get me the record I am looking for, but it is returning a DataRow object and not the index of the object. I have been reading about the new data features in VB 2005, and while the DataSet Designer promises to reduce development time, it also looks very much like the VB6 DataEnvironment which, for me at least, was a source of much grief which went away when I replaced it with straight ADO code, as well as being rather inflexible when changes are required.     - Displaying Select columns(windows forms app) This is really stumping me. I have a dataset where I compute certain columns because I need to reorganize the data to a certain format, but I need to take the new columns and put them into a new dataset. I have a custom control where a user performs some actions and it combines certain columns or at least creates a new one with a name I can use. What I need is to bind a dataset to a grid with only the computed columns. I thought I would create a new DS and merge it with the doctored one, but no go, empty values with only the column headers.     - "Timeout expired" in ADO.NET Hi, I've sent a similar post earlier - but after no more luck and a lot more frustration, I am reposting the issue with some additional information. It's regarding several web applications on the same server, connecting to a SQL Server on another server. I keep getting the following exception when accessing the database: ----- System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. ---- I am currently using the following code to connect, but I've had the same problem with all the different code snippets I've tried, so I doubt the problem lies herein: ----- using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString)) { connection.Open(); .... data code .... connection.Close(); } ----- The problem happens 1-5 times, after I refresh the page enough times, it usually goes through. I've seen a number of potential solutions to the problem - but none of them fits the problem. I usually get the exception after not using the system for a while, but I haven't experienced when the system is "in use", i.e. when the previous request was no more than a couple of minutes ago, and no recompile of the application has been done. I _don't_ get enough connections to exceed the maximum - far from it (when I don't get the exception, the connection pooling seems to work fine). The exception is thrown instantly, not after the default 30 second timeout. And after I had accidentally misconfigured the authentication in the web application, the user didn't have access - I got "Login failed for user (null)" - what's odd was that I _still_ got the "Timeout expired" exception 4-5 times before I finally got the expected "Login failed" exception. The "Timeout expired" exception gets thrown even before I successfully connect to the database! Suggestions are very welcome, I've been struggling with this problem off and on for several weeks now. There is just a little something that has been bothering me, and a problem I just cannot seem to resolve? As far as I'm concerned, will there not be any updates to the ADO.Net data providers especially OLEDB and Jet 4. Is this correct? I started out a little project using the .Net Framework 1.1, and somewhere within this project I reference a connection to an Excel document making use of OLEDB as there is no way I can use SQLClient?     - Two questions for gurus about using strongly typed DataSet in Web Services. 1. Is there a 2nd way to declare a strongly typed DataSet (e.g. CustomerDataSet) in WSDL instead of using the WSDL <import namespace="CustomerDSnamespace" location="url to CustomerDS.xsd"/>? Apparently, if I include CustomerDataSet schema definition in WSDL types, it will not be recognized as a DataSet by .NET WSDL compiler when a Web Reference is created. I have to use the WSDL import statement. What do I need to do to make it recognize the CustomerDataSet definition in the WSDL types. The CustomerDataSet has the correct definition (ie isDataSet=true) and does work with the WSDL import. 2. How to send a strongly typed DataSet over SOAP without the XSD? I found that when I am sending a strongly typed DataSet (e.g. CustomerDataSet) instance over SOAP, I still need to send its XSD with the CustomerDataSet every time. Otherwise, .NET will not parse attribute data type right even though, the XSD is available as part of the strongly typed DataSet (ie CustomerDataSet).     - Speed up of connection to SQL Sever from VB.NET I am running a tiny SQL Server 2000 database on a Small Business server premium edition. I am connecting (using SQL Server security logins) to it from 2 XP professional workstations each running the same simple VB.NET program. (I am not running the server as a domain controller, just using a workgroup.) From one of the machines, the opening of the database connection is immediate (small fraction of a second). From the other it is very slow (20 seconds). I have tried to fool around with network settings, but both machines seem to be set up with the same parameters. What am I missing?     - DataTable Factory and cache problem I want to produce typed DataTables (create factory for creating it ready to use (for example 30 of given type)). Everything works fine when i use widows application to simulate 'eating' datatables from Queue where are datatables are ready for use. But something goes wrong when i use my Factory in context of IIS (now 5.0 and windows 2000). I have one thread which populates Queues when there is no needed datatables and 1 instance (accesed by static Property) of my Factory which is one for application domain. DataTables are returned by Create( IDataTableCreator dataTableCreator) method. Synchronization is very fast because i use Interlocks to perform synchronization and Interlocks are used during Dequeue my Queue so I don't have synchronization problems. My question is that: Why in application context everything works fine but in IIS context everyting is extremaly slow :( If number of precreated datatables is high (500) then IIS dies during populating my queues.     - ADO Connection after DB backups We stop a separate server with a SQL Server instance for backups at night the restart after backups are completed. The ADO connection on our web server (Win Svr 2k w/IIS) cannot reconnect to the database server unless the web machine is rebooted. We have tried to restart IIS but it did not work.     - How do I bind an MSAccess CrossTab to a DataGrid I have an MSAccess database that I have used to create a cross tab querry. When I try and bind it to a datagrid unsing an OleDbDataAdapter or OleDbDataReader the data grid only displays two of the many column headers and none of the data. I am not haveing trouble binding to other queries in the same database. I did note that in the Visual Studio .Net Server explorer if I make a connection to the database it lists the Crosstab querry as a stored procedure not a view. This procedure is taking a long time to execute and after some time I get the follwoing error "Distributed transaction completed.     - Concurrency Problem I am running a VB.NET app on my desktop with Access 2003 as the DB. The table I am working with has a PK made up of 2 columns. I am currently the only user. I built my own UpdateCommand for the data adapter. The command uses values for the PK columns in the WHERE clause ad then uses "Set" for some (but not all) other columns. Whenever I try to do an update I get a concurrency violation? How can that be?     - No value given for one or more required parameters on relation update Here's a variation on the old chestnut, but I can't get a handle on it. I have a database that has a many to many relation. Table A has two columns AID and AName, table B has two columns BID and BName and table AB has three columns ABID, AID and BID for relating tables A and B. (I am using Access, but don't use the autogenerated ID, although I let it operate.) I create a relation which contains ABID, AID, BID and BName. I'm trying to use Microsoft Data Access Application Blocks to connect
to an Oracle database with no luck. I cannot find any resources if this
can be done. The only examples I found was using Oracle Client for
.NET.
Is it possible to connect to Oracle 9i Database using Data Access
Application Blocks? How?
