    - Need some help on forms Hey, YO...., I NEED SOME HELP HERE ! Actually, I got some info from a good guy called ScottT, but I need more. You see, I'm kind of stuck in here. I need to connect two forms. But the problem is... I don't know the codes.     - StoredProc commits results in QueryAnalyzer but not in ADO.NET I'm hoping someone can help! I have a stored procedure in an MSDE database. When I use Query Analyser to run this stored procedure the correct results appear in the database. My stored procedure returns resultCode. The stored procedure includes a single BEGIN TRANSACTION [...] COMMIT TRANSACTION Within my application, I execute the follow code I recieve the correct result code but the information is NOT updated in teh database.     - SqlCommandBuilder - not setting my identity column I ran into a problem when I tried to use SqlCommandBuilder to generate my insert statement. The problem was the identity column wasn't being set when I called Update. It was set correctly in the database, it just wasn't updating my inserted DataRow. This caused issues when I went to add rows in other tables that keyed off the one I just inserted because I didn't have the primary key. Long story short... I searched high and low and was finally able to piece it together between what I found in these newsgroups and the MSDN documentation. I thought I'd share how simple it ended up being because I saw some crazy work-arounds in all my searching. There were two key things that I kept missing somehow. 1. calling RefeshSchema to clear the command builders handy work and then resetting the insert command with my mods to the originally generated one. 2. setting UpdatedRowSource to FirstReturnedRecord. It ended up being so simple... sheesh! The hours I spent searching. I hope someone else gets some value out of this.     - database writing efficiency I need to log 400 values every second into an access database. Previously I did this in C++ using OLEDB and after a lot of experimentation, I minimized the peak CPU usage by writing out the data in a separate thread every 10ms. Now I have to do this in C# and I am uncertain as to the most efficient method (I am primarily concerned with CPU usage). My current methodology is below. One inefficiency I recognize but Iâ??m not sure how to fix is that Iâ??m storing the data in memory as well as the database but I only really need it in the database. Another specific question I have is which database adaptor is fastest with access and which update override is fastest (maybe rows is better than tables?)     - DataGridViewComboBoxColumn seperate items I'd like to have separate items in the DataGridViewComboBoxColumn for each row, For an example look at the vs2005 query builder. Column(0) is the fieldName and contains a list of the fields from the table named in column(2). If the table selected in column(2) of a particular row is changed the available items in column(0) reflect the available fields for that table. And if there isnâ??t a table selected in column(2) then the items available in column(0) is the full field list for all table. How would I do something similar (really really similar)? This first hard-coded snippet works Dim queryString As String = "UPDATE [rfi] SET [dateresolved] = '8/16/2006' WHERE ([rfi].[id] = @id)" This second snippet does not work Dim dtNow As DateTime = DateTime.Now dRes = dtNow.ToShortDateString Dim queryString As String = "UPDATE [rfi] SET [dateresolved] = dRes WHERE ([rfi].[id] = @id)" dateresolved is a Date/Time data-type. The first snippet uses single quotes around the date but I would think the second snippet would be accepted as a string.     - Changing ConnectionString programmatically Have the following situation: I have an old C++ application, which I have managed to compile with /clr to make it access .net functionality. For some of the new functionality I have decided to create a C# DLL, being a very neat and handy language. I have used wizards to create the dataset, extracting data to a grid from an SQLServer with stored procedures, all generated from wizards and life is fine. Except: The connection string that I have is of course "hard coded default", so that I could get the data in in the first place. The real life connection string that I want is something that I have read from another database in the main application (C++), which I now would like the C# DLL to use as well. This connection string also contains username and password set from a user login (using SQLServer authorisation). The C++ application, originally being unmanaged does not read an app.config file. The connection string is therefore not accessible through System.Configuration.Configuration. And the MyDLL.Properties.Settings.Default.myConnectionString is readonly, and might not change things anyway. Anyone, please? Or do I have to rewrite the whole db code?     - SQL UPDATE with a DATE data-type Hi folks, I am doing an UPDATE to a table that has a field for a DATE data type. I am using MS Access. The UPDATE works fine but when I try to place the DATE field in the mix it blows up. The table name is rfi. Here's a code snippet... Finally, I hard coded a string in as "8/15/2006" which it accepted both as a DATE type and as a STRING type.     - Challenging ADO.NET situation (long) I've implemented a solution that I don't really think is very efficient, but I can't really think of a better way to do it. If anyone has any suggestions or citicisms, i'd be grateful to hear them. .NET 2.0/SQL 2000 (not 2005). I have two identical databases that need to be syncronized, seperated by the internet. I've implemented a web service on one server that will return a dataset containing all the currently "active" records. I then need to import (or update) those records into the local database. The records are structured in a simple master/detail format with multiple detail tables, depending on a "type" column in the master (ie some records will use one table for a detail, other records will use another). The complication is that a) I cannot change the schema. It's defined by an off the shelf application. b) Records can be added to either database independantly, but data is always transfered from remote to local, not the other way around. and c) because of b, i caanot depend on the primary key of the master being the same on both sides (an auto-increment identity value). All data besides the primary key should be copied (or updated) from the retrieved dataset to the local database. What i've done is identified some unique rows that I can use to create a secondary (though not "official") key. The database does not constrain these values to be unique, but the application is designed in such a way that it will not allow them to violate the uniqueness. The general flow is like this. I iterate over the master table, then lookup a row in the local database based on the unquie data. I then issue an insert if no records are returned, or an update if one is, tediously copying each field from the datarow to the SqlCommand.Parameters. I then check my local database for any "active" records that do not exist in the dataset returned by the remote host, because a record may have been "closed" between updates. If I find any records not in my remote dataset, I then have to issue a web service call to the remote host to return the single record for the closed record. I then update that record with the returned data ("closing" it). Then I walk through each of the detail tables, doing a lookup in a dictionary of remote:local record mappings that created while walking the master table and insert or update any records there. These records do not have to be updated if the master record has been "closed". This is generally a lot of work, and doesn't seem very efficient. If both databases were local (or even connectable directly via SQL) then I could use a DTS package to do a lot of this much easier (and do a lot more in SQL), but because I have to retrieve the data via a web service, it makes everything more difficult. The key points that I see as inefficient (and am looking for some thoughs on how to simplify) are: 1) Getting the data from my remote dataset to the new database. Manually (and tediously) copying the columns from a datarow to cmd parameters. I tried using two datasets and copying the datarow ItemArray values, but had all sorts of troubles with the dataadapter updates and insertions) 2) having to requery the remote database multiple times for each closed row. It would be more efficient if I could send a list of keys to the remote server and have it return all those rows. Any suggestions there? Any easy way to use something like an array of integers in a SQL parameter to return a list of items in a WHERE clause? I know i could do some stuff with cursors if I had to, but it doesn't seem like it should be that hard. 3) Any general thoughs on my algorithms or any suggestions for alternative ways of achieving this? I'm not married to a web service, but it seems the most efficient. I don't want to "push" changes from the remote server, i'd rather "pull". Thanks. I have a dbase file with 450,000+ records, (400MB+ file size) I am loading only the UniqueID field into a DataSet and I have 2 problems. 1. It takes about 45 seconds to load 2. It is consuming about 400MB of RAM at that point. Is this kind of behaivor to be expected? Does anyone know of a better way? finally... 3. Handling concurrency with stored procs. So I love the way that when you do DataAdapter.Update(ds), the dataadapter automatically handles concurrency issues. By concurrency issues, I mean: Person A loads rowX Person B loads rowX Person A saves his changes (with dataadapter.update) Person B saves his chnages (with dataadapter.update) rather than Person B overwriting Person A's changes, a concurrency error will be thrown. I think SQL is generated for the DataAdapter.UpdateCommand that checks to see that all the values of the fields are the same as when the object was originally loaded by this person (UPDATE TableX where PK=1 AND value1=origvalue, value2=origvalue, etc). My question is, if I do this DataAdapter.UpdateCommand = new command("MyCustomStoredProc"); have I lost this cool feature? Is there any way I can get it back? I know that was a lot.     - newbie - simple Master/Details question Hi all, I am a bit of "noob" when it comes to using c#.NET datagrids, and always look at them in terms of what i could have done in VB6. I have been reading around, and understand the ideas and logic of DataSets, DataRelations, and DataTables. I understand how to populate a dataset, datatable, grid etc, and have even got as displaying a combobox in cell of the datagrid. However, I do not understand how to make relationships between multiple tables appear as I want them on the screen. For example, the following code I have used to populate data into a dataset, and establish the relationships between the data tables. This works fine, no problems: sqlAdap=new SqlDataAdapter(strSearch,sqlConn); SqlDataAdapter sqlAdap2 = new SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM T_Recycle_Consignment_Detail",sqlConn); ds = new DataSet(); sqlAdap.Fill(ds,"T_Recycle_Consignment_Header"); sqlAdap2.Fill(ds,"T_Recycle_Consignment_Detail"); DataRelation Tran_Detail = new DataRelation("Items", ds.Tables[0].Columns["F_Consignment_ID"], ds.Tables[1].Columns["F_Consignment_ID"]); ds.Relations.Add(Tran_Detail); Where I am stuck, is that when I click on the "+" sign on the datagrid, I first get a link to DataRelation name "Items", which when I click it, it removes the parent grid, and just displays the child record(s). I am getting bonkers (sorry). i have sql2005express/c#.

I have calender and i get the dates right
DateTime DeployDate = Convert.ToDateTime(Calendar1.SelectedDate);
i tried putting the deployed date as a string and having
Calendar1.SelectedDate.Convert.ToString as well

after this i have a insert string which is giving me all i need.....

gdsAssignedGuardSYS4.PriorityID, gdsAssignedGuardSYS4.FullName,

all is fine! thats right. mys string works though until the dates is
12. because in mys sql serever i can seach and get dates. WHERE
DeployDate='19/08/2006' it refuses so i need to change the date to be
yyyyMMdd but i have been looking and trying and failing on this part.

i need to enter the DeployDate as yyyyMMdd only that. can someone help
me before the doctors come and collect because iam going nuts.

Hi,

Are you sure that you want to Convert a datatime to a datetime with a
command that is to convert a datetime to a string.
DateTime DeployDate = Convert.ToDateTime(Calendar1.SelectedDate);

This can be
string DeployDate = Calendar1.SelectedDate.ToString("yyyyMMdd");
or any other Idateformatprovider
