    - adUseServer Constant Undefined I have an ASP page in which I reference quite a few ADO constants such as adOpenStatic, adLockReadOnly and they work fine but a reference to adUseServer comes up as undefined? I have a typelib definition in that page:  For the time being I used the constant 2 to replace that reference - I hope that is correct?     - Session Variable not updated For some reason I'm unable to update a session variable btween pages.     - CDONTS and ASPUpload Hi I don't know if this is the right forum but I need some help and advise. I want to create a form where I can enclose files from local disc and mail with CDONTS. I want to use a form including the following: Fill in a form with following fields: From: (name) Email: (address) Subject: Text: (Body) Enclosed files: (from my local hard drive) I may also need to use radio or check boxes etc. I have the following idea: 1. Fill in form and upload enclosed files to temp folder on server using ASPUpload 2.1 2. Send mail using CDONTS including both form data and files which I pick from temp folder at the server. 3. Delete files from temp folder at server. I have tried several ways to code but get stuck all the time. Do anybody have any hints how to solve this or know any good site describing procedures?     - query search on access db ... scratching my hair ... help plz I have posted this Q earlier also, but NO solution so far. I still hope there must be someone with a solution. My Q: displaying only SPECIFIC records from an access db with ASP query. e.g. let's say there r 700 records in a DB; out of that 50 are from NY, 100 from NJ and rest from other states. (i) If i want to display all 700 records, then the script works fine, the paging function (previous 1 2 3 4 .... next) works perfectly. (ii) Now, if i run a query and want to display only the records from NY >> then the trouble starts. the results of query: number of records (50), number of pages (3 at 20 records per page), and its display on first page (first 20 records) --- all these are returned correctly. BUT, the next pages of the query results (the 21-40 records on page 2 and 41-50 on page 3) are not displayed.     - activating access hyperlink from asp i have a database, one of the fields is a hyperlink to a htm file. i want to activate it automaticly as the asp file is loaded no click is needed.so that the background of the BODY part will remain and that text will be of the htm file.     - Template problem Hi, I posted this somewhere else, but I don't think it was quite the right place, so I'll try here. I know a little about asp, but not much. This is on a FrontPage 2000 site. I have a template page. A full page design. I have to split it into a header and a footer, for some asp pages. To do this, I marked the beginning of the content area with xxxx. Everything above that, I saved as the header. Everything below it, I saved as the footer. I can open the template as an ASP page or as an HTML page, and it's fine. I can open the header (htm) or the footer (htm), and they are fine. But when I open one of the ASP pages of my cart program (that calls the header and footer files), I get this error message: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0140' Page Command Out Of Order /header.htm, line 1 The @ command must be the first command within the Active Server Page. The first line on the header is: <%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%> But that is the same first line on all the other pages that do work. Could it have something to do with the fact that the cart ASP pages are written in vbscript? If so, what would I do about it? Thanks for any help!     - Problem with "Custom paging" of DataGrid control I created a page to show RealEstate Data with images retrived from the MSSQL 2000.     - query a DB - pass the query to next page I am running a querry on an access database and have set the number of records/page displayed at 20. if there are more than 20 records returned, then 1st page will show the first 20, the next page will show next 20 and so on.... The trouble: the count of total records displayed is correct and the first page is displayed correctly. The request is sent to an ASP page which creates a com object that handles the request. This com object usually calls other asp pages that handle sub functions. This has worked fine, but now I have a new component that is giving me a lot of problems. It's a component that contains a few calls to a SQL db using ADO. It works fine for a while, but then I start getting an error in the backend component. I have very good error handling, so I get an XML response back with the error number and location. I have been able to pin point the line of code that gives the error (5, illegal function call). But it's almost impossible that an error would happen there... The line of code contains an add to a collection. I add a simple variable to a collection. This runs fine for a long time and then I get the error. On my local machine the code works fine. As soon as I plug it into IIS it goes wrong. The error always occurs in the same spot. After this error has occurred, I can no longer use any component that uses my database component. This works fine.. My Database of URL are the backend of a search engine I have written, what I was wondering, is instead of me doing a seperate external check of the URLs using the database as above, can I do something like..... When the user clicks on a URL, they have a varable director.asp?url=blar blar blar, this goes to a page that does a redirect to the URL. Is it possible for me to use the XMLHTTP object to do the redirect, and this way would it be possible for me to have the users of my site check the URL by grabbing the value of the statuscode from the XMLHTTP object before it is redirected. I would like to be able to have the links constantly checked by the users rather than me have to manually as above say every month. something like this, if you see below I would be very keen not to make the jump to the URL slower, so once the URL had been checked using XMLHTTP then maybe it would be possible to use the redirect...     - unwanted session timeout I have a simple form connecting to an Access database where users log in, fill out the form, and submit. Everything works fine. However, sometimes it takes a user 20 minutes or more to fill out the form. When the user then hits "submit" he is given the login page instead of the response page I have built in. If the user fills the form out in less than 20 minutes or so, it works fine. I have Session.Timeout=720 (2 hours) but this hasn't changed anything. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Randomly, the security settings on this database will drop to the basic secutiry, myself and SYSTEM. I need IUSR on it so I can access it through my ASP pages... I have to reset the permissions on the database file. Sometimes i'll have to do this 3 or 4 times until the permissions stick. It only happens on a few of my projects, not all of them. Also, what helps at times, is within IIS, to check server extensions. This seems to do something to it to help it to work.     - ASP Pages will not display I had to restore my server from backup. When I did, I could no longer access any asp pages on my web server. The error says HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I have turned off friendly HTTP error messages and it gives me less info. All it says is server application error. html or htm pages work fine. I have reinstalled com+ so that I can now access the components services snap-in. When I go to the properties of the website and then into home directory and change the application protection to low the pages display correctly. This makes me think it is a permissions issue with the iwam_machinename user.     - Are stored procedures practical using ASP only? Hello, The aspfaq.com seems to really push stored procedures, and I hear the same advice here all the time. So I want to take the advice. Is it possible to create and practically maintain, delete, use, etc.. stored procedures soley from asp (i.e., no GUI or console- like being hosted on Brinkster)? The tutorial on aspfaq.com mentions that stored procedures can be created from asp code- how? Do you just send the stored procedure you'd type into the GUI with oConn.execute() instead? Thanks!     - NEWBIE: How to create a log file Hello All, I'm new to ASP and am having problems with CDONTS.NewMail not always delivering my mail. Unfortunately, it always seems to fail on a particular recipient, so he's getting steamed! In my code, I create two e-mails, one to an end-user, and one to a sales rep. The e-mail to the user always succeeds, but the email to the sales reps fails about 15-25% of the time. I'm trying to debug the ASP page, and I figure using a log file may be the best way. I want to test the sales rep's newMail object and write to a log file when it fails (IsNull()), but I don't know how to create a log file in ASP.     - protected download of files... I am creating a series of downloadable articles, career tools, spreadsheets, etc. However, some of the content is for "registered" guest. The registrants are stored in a database and logon. I want to ensure that someone registered cannot simply pass someone the path to the files for download. However, I am not creating an actual system user name for the folders where the various documents exist. I don't want someone to logon, retrieve the path to a file, and be able to send that path or return to that path without having to logon. How do I accomplish this? Consider the following: serverroot/registeredcontentfolders would be protected by a single logon name - not accessible via anonymous access. User's logon to site and I auth them with their user name but on the server side, auth with the single account I am establishing for access to the protected folders. Any insight would be appreciated.     - ASP with MYSQL Sometimes you dread the day you woke up and said that you will become a Computer Engineer. Not that you love being one, but its just one of those days for me. I have extensively worked on ASP, Access And Sql Server, on win 2k. Now the requirements have changed. The DB has to be MySql. Right now, I m working with a Win2k server and running ASP on IIS. That will eventually be run on Linux on Chilli ASP. I dread that day too now. The thing is, I have got The connection between ASP and MySql running after much difficulty, because I suck at DSN connections and all. Now, that its running, I can't seem to get the RecordCount for any recordset I open with MySql. Hello one of our servers (win2k adv server, IIS5, MDAC 2.8, full patched), once a day in the afternoon starts giving this error on every site that uses asp: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '8007000e' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded. the memory used goes from 800Kb to 1,5Gb (1Gb of physical ram available), and even though the cpu used isn't 100% we need to reboot because everything dramatically slows down. There are many sites hosted on this server and we never had this problem before... The culprit must be one of the new sites then. Is there a practical way to find out which site is the culprit?     - Script language choice I see that ASP allows you to specify the scripting language of your choice - including (if you get the COM object) PERL, REXX and more. That seems pretty good, I think. Out of the box, it supports VBScript and JScript. The question is (and I know that personal preference will come into this) what would you choose to use out of JScript and VBScript? To speed up the script, I don't want the filelist everytime being read on the server. Therefore I wanted to send the contents of a_files to a session variable.     - "the link could not be saved" error I have two ASP pages. They basically query a database, and spit out the information as plain text in CSV format. The first has the SQL query hardcoded into it. The second takes a SQL query from a webform. Now, the hardcoded results, I can click "Save Page As" when the results come up and save it as a text file. The other, while it seems to be the same results exactly, gives me an error when I try to save the page locally: "The link could not be saved. The web page might have been moved or had it's name changed." !?!? The page has not been moved, nor had it's name changed.     - User Variable Do you know how to get windows login variables (i.e. the LOGON_USER server variable) from ASP without having to fill in the challenge response message box that automatically appears when you configure IIS to Integrated Windows Security for a particular site? I don't want users to have to log in again to the site as they have already logged in to windows but I want to use their username on the back end to verify permissions. Is it possible?     - Functions vs. subs and role reversal Hi all, First off I know the difference between functions and subs, basically a function returns a value on execution of a code block wheras a sub just executes a code block (more or less). I have found however that if I 'call' a function in the same way as I would a sub the function executes the code as if it were a sub ie: Call openDB 'this is a function which creates a connection object to my database called dbConn which is the available to the rest of my code. openDB is most definitely a function and this method of calling it works perfectly well. My questions are thus: 1) Am I just ignorant of calling procedures? 2) Is it a good idea to call functions like this, or should a sub be a sub and a function be a function? 3) If not a good idea then why not? not sure I follow... what do you mean by "not passing"? Is there an error?
Did you install a fix/patch for this virus that might have blocked ports?
