    - Number format problems with SUM and AVG Hie everybody, I have a problem with the following, I have a table with a row containing numbers with 2 decimal places. I want to count the sum of these numbers but my valuw returned is far to high. I think the SUM string doesn't look at the decimal place.     - ASP class-session variable Hiya - Big puzzler for me. Code Below I create a class. I save it to a session variable. Then, I retrieve the session variable back into a new local variable. I am able to use a method which prints the name "Joey." Works great. But if I retrieve the same session variable into a local variable from a different page, I cannot use the method. It fails.     - string variable - weird error - help me!!!! hi, I have a variable which has lots of text (html code more specifically) assigned to it. What I need to do is to strip away large chunks of it from the beginning and end of it. I need to recognise some div tags as the beginning and end of the string and to throw everything else away. I have no guarantees that the surrounding text will be the same each time it is used. So does anybody know how to seek out and find some characters and strip everything before it and then to find a closing tag and strip everything after it. The problem I am currently having is a puzzling one, if i strip away text from a hard coded variable, everything gets posted to my database just fine, however when i try it on my form retrieved string variable my start position is always '0', indicating that the text i am seeking has not been found. My theory is that the search will not read new lines, and is only reading the very first line of text from the string and nothing else. I am getting a 500 Internal Server Error message every time I try to log in, however I have set all file permissions related to the login as read,write and execute. Username = user Password = fasteners2003 I don't know all that much about ASP yet as I am learning, but I have managed to get the site working fine on my localhost using IIS. When running from a remote machine, I was quite able to server-side create COM connections to WORD and OUTLOOK while using the VB Studio.Net 2002 version using the following style of coding. Dim myObj as New Windows.Application Now, after upgrading to VB Studio.Net 2003, I get a very basic error message "Cannot create ActiveX Object" when trying to access the same application. When accessing it locally, everything runs fine. It MUST be some security/rights thing.     - how to install Asp script on other server Dear sir, My client asked me to write a small ASP application for them. I have finished the job, however, I am now having a problem during the delivery. This application needs to be installed on > 3 servers. My client will do the installation themselves. Inside my application, there is a MS SQL database, I bought a component, this component is used by asp script. To enable schedule, this application requires a task on windows task scheduler as well.     - ASP pages & possible permissions corruption We're running windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0. We're trying to execute .asp scripts but we keep getting the 500 (internal server) error. It looks like the permissions might be corrupted. When I go to the folder in question, go to properties >> security and look at the user groups, for several seconds they say this: S-1-1-0 S-1-5-18 S-1-5-32-544 Then the above numbers turn into the group names (everyone, administrator, etc.). The end result is that no .asp code can be executed, but other scripts (such as ColdFusion scripts, sorry) are working fine. Our website as a whole is functioning properly. Months ago I applied the IIS Lockdown Tool and ever since I've had to jockey the permissions around. Earlier in the week I had IIS prompt me for username/password to access public pages. When I went to the permissions menu, it hesitated and then opened. When I retried the pages after adjusting the permissions, I was able to access them again. Any suggestions, reference? Thanks. After the above has happened my session variables have all lost their values. It happens at random at different locations in the website, sometimes only seconds after running the site, sometimes I'm good for a few minutes. I have no trouble at home. I've contacted my Host and they say : "I'm not sure why you are getting that error, as I checked the logs and the ASP server has been up and running. One option is I could move you to a different server to see if that helps.     - Removing a period from a string I need to remove a period from a string of data. I have a whole column of numbers that have a period distributed randomly in them, and I need a way to pull the period out. Unfortunatly, the period is not at a fixed interval from the start or from the end. Sometimes it's like this: 08307.33214 and sometimes it's like this: 66543354.2213 At any rate, I have a whole column of these in SQL Server 7.0 and need to use the number as is for some issues, but without the period for others. Hi guys, i'm a little bit confused about ASP... am i correct in thinking that a JBScript that uses asp.dll objects is an ASP? what i mean is is an ASP a script written in ASP supported languages such as vbscript, perlscript etc. but that uses ASP.dll ojbects? also, how is the data collected from an ASP accessed? for example if i have an ASp that collects visitors' contact information, how would i access that information in order to use it? for javaScript and VBScripts, which do not make use of any server, how are information collect by the website processed or collected by the owner of the website in order to utilise the information? if i develop an ASP will i need to develop the server as well, or am i correct in thinking that the server is the IIS?     - Permission denied error Hello I have the following configuration: - Windows 2000 Adv Server - IIS is running on this machine - I have some ASP scripts and a global.asa file In the the global.asa file (in the Application_OnStart section) I create an instance on a COM object (in fact it is a Windows service that has a COM interface (the corresponding Windows service is running)). The code of this section of global.asa: Sub Application_OnStart Set Application("ComObject") = Server.CreateObject("ComObject.Interface") End Sub One of my ASP script is called every second by another application and this ASP script calls one of the COM object's methods. The code of this ASP script is: result = Application("ComObject").Method Most of the time this is working fine, but sometimes this ASP generates an error 500 page and I have the following error in the IIS log files: 800a0046|Permission_denied:_'Application(...).Method' The strange thing is that for a few days this error does not happen and suddenly this error occurs very often (up to every 10 seconds).     - The Ultimate HTML Search Script. But.......! A year or two back I needed a search script to scan thru HTML files on a client site. Usual sorta thing. A quick search turned up a neat script that provided great search results. It was fast, returned the hyperlinked page title, filename, and the body txt (30 preceding and following words) in context with the search word highlighted. Excellent.! See it working at: http://www.ipt.co.za Just search for "firearm" I now need to use it on a different site but I've run into two limitations which made it unsuitable. It will only search the root folder of a domain and won't cascade the search down through sub- folders. Hmmmm. Pity. Checked the code but couldn't modify it successfully. Aah well, look elsewhere..... After hours and hours of scouring through the script sites I began to realise what a lucky find that original script was. Almost everything new that seemed promising either had major limitations, presented poor results or just would not work properly. And, most importantly, none of them offered that *excellent* feature where the search term was displayed embedded in the context. I now believe that this is a great script that needs two modifications: 1. The ability to be pointed to a sub-folder of a domain as the starting point for the search. But, as a compromise, this could also be achieved as the folder in which the script itself is lying. 2. The ability for the search to cascade on through sub-folders lying below the folder in which the search is initiated. It would also be great if the original casing for the page title and context could be preserved but that really isn't a critical issue. Maybe one could even specify the file extensions for searching to speed things up. Suggestions would be greatfully received.! Please can somebody out there help with some ideas as to where this script can be modified to provide these functions. I'm sure this would an excellent resource for the ASP community and it certainly fits my requirements. Here's hoping ...... code follows below.! TIA .les.     - Command.Timeout option All, I am using ADO to connect to a database to get some data that I then display on my web page. I build the entire script in ASP code the finally use response.write to get the web page itself When I create the connection object set objConn = Server.Create.Object("Server.Command) objConn.Timeout = 90 Even thought I set the time out to 90 seconds the time out occurs in 30 seconds.     - Another SQL Question I've got a working SQL statement here that I'm trying to do a an "Order By df.Name". What the SQL does is pulls all data excluding duplicate data from a second table and taking what ever ID's that's left and looking it up in a separate look up table.     - Windows 2000 SP 4; Browser Hangs I installed SP4 for Windows 2000. Prior to the upgrade my system was at SP3 and I was able to run ASP scripts from my browser just fine. For exmaple: http://127.0.0.1/Experiments/ASP/EXP_ASP_TypeName.asp Post-Upgrade the browser hangs forever with this in the status bar: "Opening page http://127.0.0.1/experiments/asp/exp_asp_typename.asp."
