    - How to add Tooltips to image at runtime ? I have created a VB app that generates a wireless network status map several times a day. The app adds hidden controls in specific areas of the image (on a form) with extra info in the tooltips so that the user can hover over a site and see the extra info pop up. I have been asked to host this info on a web page, which I have done for the map only - I copy and overwrite the source image of a simple ASP. Question: How should I go about adding the tooltip functionality? Remember this has to be done at runtime. Even the number of sites can change. In VB I added a new control to the image for each site in the database at its Lat and Lon but I am not sure how to approch this for an ASP. A good analogy would be a web page with a weather map of the USA where hovering over bad weather pops up a tooltip showing the current temp etc Any suggestions?     - File Not found 404 Error -- while the file exists and mostly loads. There is an ASP page in my site which sometimes gives file not found error. This page which is suppossedly missing exists on the server and available most of the time. But sometimes out of the blue, we get this message. When we restart IIS, the page works fine. Any help in resolving this would be appreciated. The rest of the site is usually fine. This one page gives the 404 error consistently. Obviously anything after this page could not be accessed.     - ASP Errors Since upgrading to Windows 2003 Server from Windows 2000 Enterprise Server we have had alot of ASP problems. The problems are centered around asp pages which are one level or more below the main folder within a web site. We have many web sites which have used the database interface wizard in FrontPage which puts these pages up to three levels deep inside the folder hierarchy of the main site. The pages will not work with IIS 6. I have had to re- engineer many of these sites without the database interface wizard. My solution at this point is to put all ASP pages at the root level which seems to work but negates all version of Frontpage management including FrontPage 2003 Beta. This is a serious problem!     - Domain transition I'm transitioning a site from domainX.com to domainY.com, and I want to redirect all traffic from the old domain to the new. If I set up domainX.com under IIS to "redirect to a URL" the browser does not redirect to the new domain, so the user never knows of the change. What I'm trying to do is upload an image (which I've managed with the sample code from the ASPUpload site), then I want to rename the image to a number, namely the value of an autonumber field in my Access database. i.e. 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc I have no problem retrieving the autonumber etc it's the renaming part I'm struggling with.     - One large, or multiple small session variables I'm still thinking about session variables :-) Does anyone know the detail of how session variables are actually stored? The question I'm trying to answer is: Is it more efficient to store and retrieve multiple short strings : a) in multiple small session variables b) concatenated and stored as one large session variable c) inserted into an array and stored in a session variable d) it's all the same. Who cares? Keeping in mind that for this application each piece of data will be retrieved for every page. I've read that storing a dictionary object in a session variable is bad ews - something to do with ending up with thread in your apartment, or something ;-) What I'd really like to do is create an XML object and store that in a session variable, but I'm guessing that would be pretty inefficient unless it had quite a lot of data in it.     - Architecture: avoiding sessions I'm currently working on the architecture for a new build of an old site. I'm trying to avoid using session variables on the understanding that they are the work of the devil. Having previously rolled my own session management on other projects, I'd like to avoid all the hassle of having to pass sessionids around on the querystring. So how does this sound for a hybrid solution? I'm thinking of leaving the IIS session management switched on. Let IIS hand out a sessionid and set the cookie. I would then use this sessionid as a key in a simple id/name/value table in a SQL Server 2000 database. Then - and this is where it gets daft - on every page I'd load all the data into a page-scope dictionary object. The dictionary could then be read and written to on the page, and at the end I'd need to write it all back to the database.When the session expires, the user gets disconnected from their data and I can clean up the database. I will already be using a database connection for every page. Am I crazy? To me this seems like a good approach if dealing with a whole stack of data that needs to be carried in the session. However, most of the time I'm probably looking at about half a dozen short strings. Am I just creating something that will be less efficient than the inefficient session variables I am trying to avoid?     - Get Original Querystring Values After Decryption Anyone have a VB function or know how to retrieve original querystring values after they have been decryted and lie within a string? For example: Say I have the querystring "id=99&page=5&value=&info=true" which has been encrypted, sent as one querystring "encryptedstring=blahblahblah", and then decrypted back into the original string "id=99&page=5&value=&info=true".     - query search on access db ... scratching my hair ... help plz I have posted this Q earlier also, but NO solution so far. I still hope there must be someone with a solution. My Q: displaying only SPECIFIC records from an access db with ASP query. e.g. let's say there r 700 records in a DB; out of that 50 are from NY, 100 from NJ and rest from other states. (i) If i want to display all 700 records, then the script works fine, the paging function (previous 1 2 3 4 .... next) works perfectly. (ii) Now, if i run a query and want to display only the records from NY >> then the trouble starts. the results of query: number of records (50), number of pages (3 at 20 records per page), and its display on first page (first 20 records) --- all these are returned correctly. BUT, the next pages of the query results (the 21-40 records on page 2 and 41-50 on page 3) are not displayed.     - Template problem Hi, I posted this somewhere else, but I don't think it was quite the right place, so I'll try here. I know a little about asp, but not much. This is on a FrontPage 2000 site. I have a template page. A full page design. I have to split it into a header and a footer, for some asp pages. To do this, I marked the beginning of the content area with xxxx. Everything above that, I saved as the header. Everything below it, I saved as the footer. I can open the template as an ASP page or as an HTML page, and it's fine. I can open the header (htm) or the footer (htm), and they are fine. But when I open one of the ASP pages of my cart program (that calls the header and footer files), I get this error message: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0140' Page Command Out Of Order /header.htm, line 1 The @ command must be the first command within the Active Server Page. The first line on the header is: <%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%> But that is the same first line on all the other pages that do work.     - Problem using com object in IIS 4 Hey all, I've been having a weird problem using com objects in IIS 4. I've built a middleware system that can be called with XML requests over HTTP. The request is sent to an ASP page which creates a com object that handles the request. This com object usually calls other asp pages that handle sub functions. This has worked fine, but now I have a new component that is giving me a lot of problems. It's a component that contains a few calls to a SQL db using ADO. It works fine for a while, but then I start getting an error in the backend component. I have very good error handling, so I get an XML response back with the error number and location. I have been able to pin point the line of code that gives the error (5, illegal function call). But it's almost impossible that an error would happen there... The line of code contains an add to a collection. I add a simple variable to a collection. This runs fine for a long time and then I get the error. On my local machine the code works fine. As soon as I plug it into IIS it goes wrong. The error always occurs in the same spot. After this error has occurred, I can no longer use any component that uses my database component. Is it possible for me to use the XMLHTTP object to do the redirect, and this way would it be possible for me to have the users of my site check the URL by grabbing the value of the statuscode from the XMLHTTP object before it is redirected. I would like to be able to have the links constantly checked by the users rather than me have to manually as above say every month. something like this, if you see below I would be very keen not to make the jump to the URL slower, so once the URL had been checked using XMLHTTP then maybe it would be possible to use the redirect... out there?
