    - Defending against SQL injection.... I have a multi-page ASP web application that uses information sent to it from the client in the Request.Forms collection, the Request.QueryString collection and the Request.Cookie collection. What I want to do is to sanitise ALL the information sent to EVERY page. I thought I'd achieve this by having an INCLUDE file inserted at the top of EVERY page. This include file iterates through EVERY form, querystring and cookie item and removes anything that looks like malicious SQL injections from the values. Having completed this task, the many web pages then access the sanitised Request object with impunity. One minor drawback is that it doesn't seem to work...I can't update the Request object with the sanitised value. [Error message: VBScript runtime error: Object doesn't suppor this property or method] Either it's something silly in my coding or it's the wrong approach....please advise accordingly (code below).     - Use session variables or store in database? I'm new to ASP. If I store information in these handy "session variables" am I going to run into many limitations that I wouldn't have it I added a database record for each session instead? For example, if I use session variables, can I have an admin utility that lets me see a list and/or count of all open sessions? Or would I be able to keep the same user from starting multiple sessions if I wanted (by comparing the log-in name which my web-site requires)? I know if I create a record for each open session that I can do all kinds of fun stuff like reports and queries, but not sure if I'll have all of those options with these built in ASP session variables (which I imagine ASP stores in memory or some non-standard format). p.s.-I'm using ASP (not ASP.NET) with VBScript (I hate VB syntax but that is what everyone seems to use).     - Excel gridlines Like many people here, I've been trying to generate a spreadsheet on an ASP page. In my case, it's Intranet, so I can't provide you with a link. But the problem I have been fighting is a simple one: The spreadsheet that is built by my code has no gridlines. I cannot find anything in the documentation of either MSDN (for ASP) or Excel that tells me how to code my page in such a way that it looks like Excel normally looks when you bring it up.     - Flushing servers buffer In the following code when i = 500 the buffer on the server is flushed to the client. However, because the content that is sent to the browser contains an html table Internet Explorer does not display the table until it receives the closing </table> tag. The question is, am I correct in saying that the buffer on the server is CLEARED when i = 500? It will be empty for a split second until the loop resumes again. Am I correct?     - Prevent "Back" Buttom in Browser I am trying to set up a login-logout website. I have a cookie about the login status. I put it as logout once the logout link is clicked. And I put a little security check about the status of the cookie variable everytime before loading the detailed member profiling. The page layout is like: Login page,-->check the login name/password database-->profile page(only login cookie is true, redirect back to login if false) Logout link, set login cookie as false and redirect to the login page. However, after I check a profile and then click logout, I can still get back to profile page by click "back" button in browser. I was told those are in the browser cache and the check of the "login" cookie does not actually work in this situation. Is there anyway to force the browser to clear the cache after I click the "logout". It should be possible since lots of websites do that. I just do not how to. Any help is highly appreciated!     - Problems connecting to MS SQL via Access2000 adp For the past several projects, I have been using an Access 2000 .adp file to create and manage the database on the remote SQL Server. It has worked very well for me and is a very fast, simple way to take care of minor updates. A new project is not going so well, though. No matter what I try, I can not get a connection established. This project is on a server I do not control, so I am having to work only with the information provided to me by the admin. Using an online admin tool provided by the server administrator, I am able to log in and view the database and make edits via manually written SQL statements. However, using the server name provided and the same login info, I am unable to establish a connection through Access. The admin also told me to use a file-based DSN connection in my ASP pages; I have always used DSN-less in the past, and can not figure out why a DSN would be required.     - Random Session Timeout in IIS6 I have an asp application running on both iis5 and iis6. (not .net) The server ruhnning IIS5 has no problem running my application. IIS6 randomly times out WEB users. The session timeout is set for 60 minutes. I will get timed out in iis6 in less than 5 minutes. However there is a problem. The problem is: In my login.asp page requires me to enter the username and password. It works fine. When I enter a valid username and password it will redirect me to home.asp with a link as followed for example http://localhost/Eugene/home.asp?id={D8E3C5D2-DEFD-4F99-8F35-AC0CF848150 5}. This works fine.     - Generating XLS files from ASP Hi All, I'm generating XLS files from ASP(.Net) code using the usual code chunks ... Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel" Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=""" & NomeFile & """") Response.Flush() Response.write("<table border=""1"" ..... ..... ..... Response.end It all works fine since I'm able to Open/Save the file with Excel 2000. But .... ...... when I run the code on a box where only an Excel Viewer 2003 is installed (rather then the full product) I cannot open it, and Viewer aborts with the following Message : "Cannot Open files of this type". Choosing to save save the file to reopen it laterleads to the same error. Moreover, the generated XLS file looks to be really small ....(1Kb) and after opening and resaving it from Excel program as a xls Workbook it becomes larger (14Kb). At this point the viewer can open it.. ... All this let me think that the generated file is not a "real" xls file .... while viewer can only open this kind of files ...     - Associating Iframe pages with a specific page. Server side HI! I need to associate a iframe pages to a specific page for my menu system. I want to be able to click on my menu system anywhere on my site and the options that is clicked will load that options ( iframe page ) into a specific page that holds the iframe. Right now the options are only available when on the page that holds the Iframe in question ( templates.htm )but if you are on another page ( index.htm) how do we tell it to load that option into ( templates.htm ) ? I think I need some kind of ASP script that would associate any Iframe page that I specify to the ( Templates.htm ) page. How do we do this? does anyone have any ideas/examples ?     - aspx page to kick off async background task and then end I'm not sure of the best way to do what I want. Users of my website want to run reports that take a long time to generate. This is what I would like to happen: 1. User requests aspx page 2. aspx page kicks off an asynchronous background task (on the same web server) to generate the report. The end result will be a file created on the website. 3. aspx page returns this message to the user: "your report is being generated, check back in a few minutes" 4. aspx page ends. 5. (optional, the icing on the cake) A frame in the user's frameset starts (through client-side script) sending periodic requests to the server to check whether the report is ready, and displays a message box to inform the user when they can pick it up. 6. User goes to their "My Reports" page and collects the report 7. After 24 hours the report file is automatically deleted from the server Now, my question is how to do step 2. I guess it could be done with MSMQ, but is there a better way? I tried making a Windows service and making an asynchronous call to it with Delegate.BeginInvoke(). However, it doesn't seem suited to my situation because it seems to insist that the caller (the aspx page) stays alive for the end result, whereas I want the caller to terminate while the callee is still running. When my BeginInvoke() caller terminates, the callee seems to stop also. Additionally, the documentation says the caller must call EndInvoke(), which mine can't. Am I on the right track, or should I be using MSMQ? Shelling? A web service? Some kind of ThreadPool? So many technologies... I need a search in progress page, so when a user clicks my search button they are then directed to a 'searching...' page with an animated gif. The login page is under http://myURL/test/dir1/login.aspx, when the user login successfully, the login page redirects the user to the default.apsx page, which is under http://myURL/test/dir1/default.aspx. When I enter the IP address of myURL in the address bar, the redirection works perfectly fine, but if I enter myURL (which is hostname) in the address bar, the redirection in login page doesn't work anymore, the login page just gets refreshed.     - Determine Header Size hello all, Our central site has set up a VPN for us so we can access our network from home. Unfortunately, our Intranet won't come up. We've been told it is because the Intrusion Prevention System on the firewall is blocking it because the headers are too large. How can I determine how large the headers are?     - Losing Session? Session("UserName") is set when someone logs in. Get to a page that displays a record where you can type a comment. The form has an onSubmit event that calls a javascript function. That function sets a javascript variable called beenChecked = true and then calls a PopUp window to spell check the comment. When it's done spell checking, it calls the submit method on the form tag of the opening window. The method evaluates that it's "beenChecked" and submits. For some reason, I'm losing all of my session variables using this approach. Within the pop-up window and the original page, the session variable is never altered explicitly. The page posts to the next page, which evaluates the Session("UserName") variable, and it's blank. What's causing me to lose my Session variables?     - Code Doesn't Listen...Avoids Sub & Inserts Data Twice??? I have the following code that populates 3 independent drop-down boxes with data from arrays. From there the user can select a value from a drop-down list, or input data into a text box. The user then submits this to be inserted into the database. Currently I've only programmed to have the first input box/drop-down valid. The problem I am having is that, even though I've inserted my SQL into a sub procedure, the code is still run prior to me making a call to the sub, therefore allowing the data to be inserted twice into the database. I know the obvious thing would be to add "no duplicates" on the db table, but I really would like to know who/why the Insert gets executed twice. I apologize for the amount of code. In this case it is ordered by release_date desc, but how best handle and change this url ? When I print this page to user, I want have on link "sort by release" have this url: http://localhost/store/CDfilter.asp?catid=3&lngid=3&osid=7&ordertype=asc&orderby=release_date&PerPage=50&PageNum=2 on "Category" sort by catid and so on. I'm looking for function Set.QueryString or so. Now I am doing it - I first parse all arguments, and I'm making the "new URL" but I don't think it is the best method. Thanks for any help. Sounds like a registry problem to me...

Get a registry checker of some sort... can't think of any off the top of my
head but I'm sure Google has one.

The windows.server group may be relevant, but I suspect only marginally.
