    - Revisiting an old friend: Set oRS = Nothing Last September, some of us engaged in a discussion of freeing resources in ASP scripts written in JScript. It can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/2flzt I recently read Eric Lippert's article on the use of *Nothing* assignments in VB (http://blogs.msdn.com/ericlippert/archive/2004/04/28/122259.aspx) right before going out of scope, and was shocked by what he had to say, and I must say it has me curious about the implications for ASP, whether written in JScript or VBScript. Like Lippert, I have seen a lot of documentation/advice that suggests a need for such assignments, but little empirical evidence that it matters. I do not mean to suggest that *Nothing* assignments are NEVER required, I simply wonder if anyone has bothered to check if it still matters with recent generations of IIS and such common tools as ADO or CDO.     - Do While not Statement I have two 'Do While Not' statements, that are getting information from the same recordset. If I comment out the first one I can get the results for the second one, and vice-versa. Why is this happening? Is it because it's already at the EOF? If so how do I get it back to the BOF for the 2nd 'Do While Not' statement?     - Help - Authentication with ASP I had to transfer an ASP Web Application (developed by another person) to a different web server. It seems to work but not completely. I have some problems with authentication: it is based on a username and a password stored in a SQL Server's table. These data are requested via basic authentication (not a IIS level but I think it is used to create the authentication window in which put username and password). The problem is that it doesn't accept username and password and, after three times, it redirect me to a page telling "You don't have rights to see this page". What could I do?     - CDONTS HTML mails with images Hi everyone, I got a little problem while sending HTML e-mails with CDONTS. I generate my e-mail body without problems into a string variable. When I display it to the browser via a "response.write", it's OK, including images. Then I set this string variable to the CDONTS.Newmail object (body property), and I send the mail. The format settings are the following : MyCDONTSMail.BodyFormat=0 MyCDONTSMail.MailFormat=0 when I revcieve the mail, I have comments () instead of image tags... does anybody know where it could come from ?     - do while loop during ADODB connection Hi, I am writing a script to send customers an email copy of their shopping cart recipt. While creating the variable "mailbody" which will be plugged into my CDO.htmlbody, I need to gather some information about their order. The script does a "Do while not rs.eof" and assigns each rs(field) to a variable, which is then added to the mailbody variable. Unfortunately, when i ask for the mailbody variable later, I lose all of the information added to the variable during my loop. I've tried everything I can think of to correct this so I was hoping somebody out there would have some ideas. Is there a better way of doing this? Script is included below.     - ASP TimeOut Hi! I'm using the following server: IIS5 Windows 2000 SP4 2 Processor Hyper thread enabled. When creating HTML files with FileSystemObject the ASP page often times out (not every time though) and gives this error: "The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools" There are no loops on the ASP page.     - IIS5.1: 404 error when ASP page is called Having previously had this working on my XP machine, I've come back after a month to find this error occuring now. In the meantime, I had installed PHP (v4.2.3) which could easily be a factor. The symptoms are that when I call an ASP page, I get a standard 404 error. However, if I dont specify a page, and a default/index page is found, it renders the page OK. I've uninstalled PHP & rebooted, but this didnt work. Any ideas?     - Disable auto-search in listbox control I've got an asp page that populates a listbox with info from a db. The list box ends up being pretty big, so I want to be able to search it effectively. I like the method wherein the user types the letters of the word they are looking for from within the listbox and the control automatically scrolls to the item matching the chars they have typed thus far. Example: If the listbox were to contain states Alabama, Alaska, and Louisiana, when the user clicked in the listbox and typed "Ala" the box would scroll to Alabama, and when they typed an additional 's', so the typed string was "Alas", the box would scroll to Alaska. Problem: I've got javascript that does this very well, but the listbox control default search behavior overrides my javascript. So, the javascript will correctly index to Alaska when "Alas" is typed, but when the javascript function is done running, the list moves down to Louisiana, because the asp control thinks that by typing 'l' the user wants to move to the first item in the box beginning with an 'l'. Question: Can I disable the default search behavior in the control? If so, how? If not, does anyone have any thoughts on how else I might get around this problem? The problem I'm having, is that only the last IP will show the website = to other computers. The first three websites are only visible to the internal browser. I need to know what I am missing to get the first three IPs to show = their websites. All IPs are pingable. None of this is clustered. I have verified that no = other computer has the IP address assigned to it. There is no double assignment of IPs to websites. This was working perfectly under Windows 2000.     - Need Help stopping pages/images from being cached Is there an effective way to stop pages from being cached? I've created several websites that have dynamic content and images that are managed by a client. The images are named according to the "id" generated via an Identity column of their corresponding database record (ex: 1058.jpg). The problem occurs when the client tries to change the image. The client gets understandly confused because the old image is still displayed, due to the browser caching the image. How can I force the browser to stop caching the page/image?     - Session lost with IIS Content Rating Hello, this problem is driving me nuts! I am using the Content Ratings (RSACi) for my website. The settings strictly "G" rated - No violence, sex, nudity or offensive language. I have a user who also has his "Content Advisor" turned on. For some reason, the session is lost for the user ONLY after he runs a javascript function on the page, then clicks submit. Make sense? If he clicks submit without first running any javascript , then the page submits correctly. I have no idea how to work around this. Do yo have any ideas???? This problem can easily be reproduced: 1) Set "Content Rating" to be enabled in IIS 2) Copy the code below into your own .asp page in a virtual directory. 3) Enable the "Conent Advisor" in IE 4) Open this page 5) Click the button "Add to Session Variable" a few times. This will add the letter "A" to the session variable 6) Click the link "Run any javascript function" 7) Click the button "Add to Session Variable" and notice all the A's go away, meaning the session variables are gone.     - sending multiple emails I have about 5000 emails in my database. I wrote a basic script that sends an email to all of those email addresses. Usually I have to break it up and only send 300-400 at a time so my script does not timeout. I know I can up my timeout to 45 minutes if I needed to, so that they could all be sent at once, but I do not believe that is a wise decision.     - Flash or Text? I don't think the text file is caching. The information in the text file is called upon manually by the user of the flash movie. Odd that the variable in which the text is stored doesn't clear once the page is revisited. Flash can't permanently store the information without having Shared Objects set up. (And they are not set up) I don't understand how the text file could be cached since the user manually requests the information after the page has loaded. The text information is being loaded into a Flash variable. All commands within the Flash movie are referring to an ASP file which draws from the text file. As long as we are in the above structure, we are fine, the session variables get set and cookies get set. When we go into production mode is when we get into trouble The production environment is https://www.LiveSite/live/somepage.asp - this is hosted at out ISP the redirection page gets published to another sub DOMAIN within our domainA structure https://www.domainA.com/backendlive/somepage.asp - let me point out that the backendtest domain and the backendlive domain are identical sub domains within DomainA So how the data flows is the user brings up the live domain and then clicks on the right frame page which redirects him to the backend live domain while the left frame and the top frame are still in the livesite domain. As I mentioned during this process, all the session variables in the backend live domain are not being set. It sets the session variable on the initial page that I go to after clicking but beyond that any page that I navigate to, I lose all session variables and cookies while coming in from the live site.     - prevent counter from incrementing when someone returns I have a counter (alright one I found on asp101.com) that checks for a session variable to prevent the counter from incrmenting if a user refreshes the page or returns to the page during the same session. The problem is, it also prevents other page counters from incrementing. I am trying to create a bookstore WebApplication using c#. I can
display the books (obtained from sql server) on a table in a WebForm.
At the end of each row, I would like to add "add to cart" button.
Therefore, I use

Button bt_add = new Button();
bt_add.Text = "Add to cart";

and put it in a cell which is later placed in each table row. The
Buttons display fine on the WebForm. However, I don't know how to add
the Button_Click function for each of the Button I created since I don't
know the total number of books in advance. Can anyone help me get "add
to cart" button to work?

Note: I try clicking on each Button, the WebForm page loads back to its
original stage (Page_Load function) and my search result is gone.
