    - Redirecting zip file Hi All, Good Morning, The problem which i am facing is related with IIS 6.0 in Win2K3. The problem: I have a ASP page which redirect a zip file which resides in the Application data path, while access this page i am getting the PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND error, with the URL "http:\\172.16.10.98\CWSLite\Temp\Client.asp". But if i brows the same with URL http:\\localhost\CWSLite\Temp\Client.asp then i am getting the zip file. Please any one help me to get the file with IP address URL. Thanks in Advance.     - Problem using com object in IIS 4 Hey all, I've been having a weird problem using com objects in IIS 4. I've built a middleware system that can be called with XML requests over HTTP. The request is sent to an ASP page which creates a com object that handles the request. This com object usually calls other asp pages that handle sub functions. This has worked fine, but now I have a new component that is giving me a lot of problems. It's a component that contains a few calls to a SQL db using ADO. It works fine for a while, but then I start getting an error in the backend component. I have very good error handling, so I get an XML response back with the error number and location. I have been able to pin point the line of code that gives the error (5, illegal function call). But it's almost impossible that an error would happen there... The line of code contains an add to a collection. I add a simple variable to a collection. This runs fine for a long time and then I get the error. On my local machine the code works fine. As soon as I plug it into IIS it goes wrong. The error always occurs in the same spot. After this error has occurred, I can no longer use any component that uses my database component. This works fine.. My Database of URL are the backend of a search engine I have written, what I was wondering, is instead of me doing a seperate external check of the URLs using the database as above, can I do something like..... When the user clicks on a URL, they have a varable director.asp?url=blar blar blar, this goes to a page that does a redirect to the URL. Is it possible for me to use the XMLHTTP object to do the redirect, and this way would it be possible for me to have the users of my site check the URL by grabbing the value of the statuscode from the XMLHTTP object before it is redirected. I would like to be able to have the links constantly checked by the users rather than me have to manually as above say every month. something like this, if you see below I would be very keen not to make the jump to the URL slower, so once the URL had been checked using XMLHTTP then maybe it would be possible to use the redirect... Now I get this message when I try to run it from VS.Net: Server Application Unavailable The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Hello, I have 2 separate web sites on 2 different boxes www.xyz.com on box 1 www2.xyz.com on box 2 Users log into box 1 via regular ASP/Database authentication, and I keep a session variable to mark authenticated users. There's a link that would send users to box #2 at www2.xyz.com. How do I check whether these users are authenticated or not? I do not want to present a login screen again. Is it possible?     - unwanted session timeout I have a simple form connecting to an Access database where users log in, fill out the form, and submit. Everything works fine. However, sometimes it takes a user 20 minutes or more to fill out the form. When the user then hits "submit" he is given the login page instead of the response page I have built in. If the user fills the form out in less than 20 minutes or so, it works fine. I have Session.Timeout=720 (2 hours) but this hasn't changed anything. Does anyone know what I'm missing?     - Unpsecified Error with ODBC Connections This happens a lot to my databases. I store them at the root of my developing files, i.e. c:\My Projects\Proj1\database.mdb. Randomly, the security settings on this database will drop to the basic secutiry, myself and SYSTEM. I need IUSR on it so I can access it through my ASP pages... Also, what helps at times, is within IIS, to check server extensions. This seems to do something to it to help it to work.     - ASP Pages will not display I had to restore my server from backup. When I did, I could no longer access any asp pages on my web server. The error says HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I have turned off friendly HTTP error messages and it gives me less info. All it says is server application error. html or htm pages work fine. I have reinstalled com+ so that I can now access the components services snap-in. When I go to the properties of the website and then into home directory and change the application protection to low the pages display correctly. This makes me think it is a permissions issue with the iwam_machinename user.     - NEWBIE: How to create a log file Hello All, I'm new to ASP and am having problems with CDONTS.NewMail not always delivering my mail. Unfortunately, it always seems to fail on a particular recipient, so he's getting steamed! In my code, I create two e-mails, one to an end-user, and one to a sales rep. The e-mail to the user always succeeds, but the email to the sales reps fails about 15-25% of the time. I'm trying to debug the ASP page, and I figure using a log file may be the best way. I want to test the sales rep's newMail object and write to a log file when it fails (IsNull()), but I don't know how to create a log file in ASP.     - protected download of files... I am creating a series of downloadable articles, career tools, spreadsheets, etc. However, some of the content is for "registered" guest. The registrants are stored in a database and logon. I want to ensure that someone registered cannot simply pass someone the path to the files for download. However, I am not creating an actual system user name for the folders where the various documents exist. I don't want someone to logon, retrieve the path to a file, and be able to send that path or return to that path without having to logon. How do I accomplish this? Consider the following: serverroot/registeredcontentfolders would be protected by a single logon name - not accessible via anonymous access. User's logon to site and I auth them with their user name but on the server side, auth with the single account I am establishing for access to the protected folders. Any insight would be appreciated.     - ASP with MYSQL Sometimes you dread the day you woke up and said that you will become a Computer Engineer. Not that you love being one, but its just one of those days for me. I have extensively worked on ASP, Access And Sql Server, on win 2k. Now the requirements have changed. The DB has to be MySql. Right now, I m working with a Win2k server and running ASP on IIS. That will eventually be run on Linux on Chilli ASP. I dread that day too now. The thing is, I have got The connection between ASP and MySql running after much difficulty, because I suck at DSN connections and all. Now, that its running, I can't seem to get the RecordCount for any recordset I open with MySql. Hello one of our servers (win2k adv server, IIS5, MDAC 2.8, full patched), once a day in the afternoon starts giving this error on every site that uses asp: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '8007000e' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded. the memory used goes from 800Kb to 1,5Gb (1Gb of physical ram available), and even though the cpu used isn't 100% we need to reboot because everything dramatically slows down. There are many sites hosted on this server and we never had this problem before... The culprit must be one of the new sites then. Is there a practical way to find out which site is the culprit?     - Script language choice I see that ASP allows you to specify the scripting language of your choice - including (if you get the COM object) PERL, REXX and more. That seems pretty good, I think. Out of the box, it supports VBScript and JScript. The question is (and I know that personal preference will come into this) what would you choose to use out of JScript and VBScript? To speed up the script, I don't want the filelist everytime being read on the server. Therefore I wanted to send the contents of a_files to a session variable. The first has the SQL query hardcoded into it. The second takes a SQL query from a webform. Now, the hardcoded results, I can click "Save Page As" when the results come up and save it as a text file.     - Functions vs. subs and role reversal Hi all, First off I know the difference between functions and subs, basically a function returns a value on execution of a code block wheras a sub just executes a code block (more or less). I have found however that if I 'call' a function in the same way as I would a sub the function executes the code as if it were a sub ie: Call openDB 'this is a function which creates a connection object to my database called dbConn which is the available to the rest of my code. openDB is most definitely a function and this method of calling it works perfectly well. My questions are thus: 1) Am I just ignorant of calling procedures? 2) Is it a good idea to call functions like this, or should a sub be a sub and a function be a function? 3) If not a good idea then why not?     - Importing CSV file to VB Script Array I've been working on some coursework that requires the use of an excel spreadsheet and a CSV file to be read into an ASP page and worked with. What I have done is set up an array to store the values from the CSV file and accessed the spreadsheet using an Excel Recordset. For some reason only the first 2 values in the CSV file (stored in the array as the first and last) are comparing properly with values from the spreadsheet. When the comparisons are made I have used a loop to go through all the records in the recordset and then another loop to search the array. If I hard code the values instead of the array values the results are as expected. I've tried making sure all the values are trimmed and preceeded with the "cstr" operation and still no joy. Even when I've written the comparisons to screen it is saying "RGD11 = RGD11 = False" Has any one got any clues as to what is going on???     - Front Page Server Extention Problem Hi all I have installed Front page server Extention on IIS 5.0 it was working fine. I was able to load project from Visual Interdav and doing well. Yesterday I installed a security update from Microsoft and after that every thing stop working and I am getting the error below when ever I am trying to connect to server using V Interdev. Error Shows that FP Server Extention is not installed but its there even I removed it and installed it back error is still there. "An HHTP error occured. The server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet Service Provider or Web Server administrator to make sure that the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, and that the Web application exists on that server" I dont know about Server Extention too much.     - Can't create component in ASP I have a third party COM component registered on my machine which we use to display barcodes on web pages. My problem is that when I try to create the components (2) in ASP I get object creation errors. This would seem to indicate that the component files are not registered correctly or are missing dependencies or something along those lines. I have attempted to duplicate the OS/browser settings for the remote users in question but I cannot seem to duplicate the problem in any OS (Mac, Linux, Windows). I've gone over and visited one problem site and I couldn't get it to work by playing with security and privacy settings in MSIE. Obviously there is a setting somewhere but I can't find it. I can duplicate the problem by commenting out the ASP code that sets a particular cookie. I also didn't see the cookie get set on the problem system when I was trouble-shooting. If I clone a window (ie: CTRL-N or File-New-Window), I get the same session information and it seems to be using the same cookie information.     - Error on Request.BinaryRead in IIS 6.0 (Win 2003) I have a VBscript that I use to upload files onto the server. The script works fine on IIS 5.0 but on IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 I get an error when uploading certain files. I believe its because the file is larger than what is normally uploaded. Average file size is 15KB this file is 490Kb.     - Authentication and custom errors I have an intranet application that uses w2k Integrated Windows Authentication to authenticate users. We now have a situation where people will be accessing it who are on our network but will not be logged into w2k - so now they are challenged and fail the challenge. To handle that situation I plan to use iis custom errors with one of the 401 codes to redirect the user to a generic page. The problem is that I cant figure out how to exactly simulate the problem on my local machine for development, as by definition Im of course logged into my own computer. Ive decided to put basic authentication on the folder where the authentication occurs, and then fail its challenge, use the redirect, etc. Once this works, then hopefully I can made some minor changes and use it with Integrated Windows. My question is whether this will be a valid simulation: do those 2 authentication systems work in the same manner with custom errors? In other words, I dont want to write a solution for basic auth that doesnt work (with minor tweaks - for example Im not sure if the same http error is thrown) with integrated auth.     - MapPath invalid character error Hi, I'm trying to use MapPath on a folder named with a comma in it: xmldoc.load Server.MapPath(Request.QueryString("fname")) where the querysting is something like "fname=this, that/this, that.xml". I don't know of a component or site per se, though you can often get some
info from WHOIS records. Still, I don't know that any such tool would be
all that accurate/useful since there are usually (or at least "more and more
often) a lot of domain names for any given IP address... if you have time
for a little reading, check out this study:
