Forms Authenticaion Problem?
We are implementing forms authentication on our site. We noticed that when
we try to lock down a folder whose name as dashes in it (e.g. Secure-Folder)
it is ignored. Is this a known issue?

Access dbase no longer works on workstation?
running XPPro/SP2 and it's iis6 too....using EditPlus as my scripting code
app....
have a simple dbase site, using ASP classic and MSAccessXP
used to run fine. but all of a sudden, no calls to the dbase work. I get a
blank screen; a refresh calls up the dialog to refresh, which of course I do,
and that gets me a blank screen.
perms are right and I can see any html page or asp page fine in EditPlus -
just not a page that has a dbase call...have just uninstalled IIS - then
reinstalled same and I get the same thing.
oh, when I first start ANY asp page in the EditPlus app, I click to "preview
in browser" as per normal - but now it shows me the plain code page - I have
to reclick to get it to "work" as the localhost and serve that page.
this is wonky...what'm I mising here? or worse, what have I done?
in fact NO asp page can call a dbase in any way...it's like the dbases do
NOT exist or some such thing? what the heck???

Are All "Either BOF or EOF is True" Errors coded number 800a0bcd
Hi All,
Just a brief question, I'm happy to say that Google is indexing my work,
unfortunatley, they are also showing records that point to pages where the
content has expired. I really dont want the user to see an "Either BOF or
EOF" error message, or infact to know that there has been an error, instead
i want to redirect them to the homepage,.. which brings about my question,...
Is the Error number for either BOF or EOF errors always 800a0bcd???
my plan is to do a responce.redirect if it exists...

Form-to-Email ASP scripts - what's the best one?
Hey...
thinking that I may need to upgrade my skillset when it comes to ASP based
form-to-email scripting.
is CDOSYS the best still on a w2k3/iis6 box?
if so, can someone point me at the shortest, easiest to configure example
that positively works for sure in this environment?
i sigh, as CDONTs used to work perfectly for me and I hated that it was
dep'd by MS....
oh, and if CDOSYS is only one way - and maybe not the best way - is there a
component that will work better/quicker with an easy to use install and
config learning curve?
oh, why do I ask...gosh...got LOTSA troubles trying to get CDOSYS to work
efficiently on a new server...and thinking that there may be another answer
out there...
pointers here lads?

Adobe Contribute & ASP.NET 2.0 Master Pages
Hello!
I have a problem with getting Adobe Contribute to view the content of the
master.page file. I have done a fair amount of research into why and have
come up with the fact that Adobe Contribute CS3 was released before ASP.NET
2.0 and therefore wouldn't have known about master pages or even how to
handle them.
Therefore I believe it to be acceptable if the page content (contained in
the content place holder in each aspx page) was stylised with at least the
external CSS file. Many attempts to get this to work have failed and
anything that is a complete frig (such as putting <html><head><link ....CSS
call /></head><body></body></html> at the top of the content place holder)
to make it believe that the external style sheet is declared in the <head>
tags is just not acceptable as it will have an impact on Google and SEO in
general..
One solution I've thought of is to make an FTP login to a private directory
on my web server and have Adobe Contribute edit those pages and for the
online script to check (with some VB or C#) the last edited timestamp of its
counterpart page in the private FTP directory and then to pull the edited
content out and into the VB's ASPX file.
Has anyone any tips or advice? I'm looking for an easy way out if there is
one :oP
Thanks to anyone that helps out!
Cheers,

Client side file help needed
I have a need to transfer a graphic file to a user's system and then
access that file. I must have the drive letter:\path location of the
file. If at all possible I'd prefer that this not require user input.
(Note that since this is my app and in a corporate network, I have the
server in the Trusted Sites zone and every single action is marked
"Enabled" in the IE security settings and users will be using IE
exclusively.) It doesn't matter to me how the file gets to the
client, save that it get there from IE, and the file is initially
retrieved via a url I give the client. I have even looked into
reading the file out of the IE temporary files but have had no luck.
Does anyone have any idea of how to do this? Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334505
Objects stored in session using Sql Server
We have a website that works fine when hosted on a single server, however it
experiences some strange problems when run on a web farm using SQL Server to
handle session state. When running on the farm, in the same method call an
object that just had a value set will no longer have the value set a couple
of lines later. In this example the object is pulled out of session, altered
and placed back in session before a following line of code tries to use the
altered value, only to find out that it appears to have never been changed.
The application essentially stores 1 object that contains several other
objects in session. The group that manages teh web farm is telling me that
this is the problem. They are saying that because of the
serialization/deserialization in sql server, the reference to the inner
objects isn't flowing through to the object being stored in SQL Server. Does
this sound correct? Should there be any differance between how a website code
funcitons on a single server versus a web farm? They provided me with the
below documentation, but have not yet been able to tell me where it came
from. This has been an ongoing battle over who's problem it really is, any
information on this subject will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill
This is the reponse I got from our techincal support group
There is no problem with the SQL Server settings for storing the session as
session objects get created, retrieved and updated in the SQL Server. The
issue is with the way the session object is updated in the C# code.
Session in asp.net behaves as follows.
InProc: In this mode session data is stored in the AppDomain of the
application. All the objects stored in the session are actually stored in
AppDomain and a reference is created for the session.
SQL Server/State Server: In this mode session data is serialized and stored
in SQL server database. When sessions is loaded system will fetch the data
from database and deserialize it and creates the objects with deserialize
data and bind them to state bag. In this mode the actual object references
and session object references are different.
Because of this, the S&S application is able to retrieve data when session
is in InProc but not in SQL Server. What's happening in S&S application is as
below.
In case of InProc session Inquiry object and Search object have
same reference, so updating one object is will show effect all its references.
In case of SQL Server session each object will have its own
reference (each time new object is created from deserialize data), so
updating one object will not update the other object in the session.
To solve this, C# code needs to be modified where the session related
objects are updated such that it gets updated in the session correctly. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334502

UTF-8, UTF-16 - ASP VB MSSQL Server - It just doesn't work.
When I POST using UTF-16 on the web using ASP and VBScriipt
(not .Net), to a MSSQL Server 2000, my data gets stored in weird
characters. My application is used worldwide (Chinese, Japanese,
German, Spanish...) all sharing the same database, but each location
stores their information using their own language. When I retrieve
the data on the Web, the characters look fine - but using SQL Query
Analyzer the characters are all mangled.
I also have an offline application (written in HTA, VBScript, and
Javascript) that allows my users to upload their data at a later
point
via a CSV file created using UNICODE, which appears to store the data
properly under the MSSQL Server (I confirm this by using Query
Analyzer)
To make things worse, the Web application will display properly the
data that it stored with the POST, but the data that was uploaded
though the CSV file displays incorrectly ( '???' characters). The
effect appears to be reversed when I use MSSQL Query Analyzer to
inspect the data - all the data that was uploaded using the CSV file
appears correct, but all the POST data is mangled.
I've placed under all the Web Pages forms and POST action pages:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-16">
I've also made all my forms to have:
<form accept-charset='utf-16'... >
I'm using Chinese in conjunction with English to troubleshoot my
problem. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334492

Using bbc code with results
Hey all. Hope everyone is doing fine.
Question...
I know how to display results that contain html code on a page. (ie. <br>
<b>...)
what i would like to know, is if a result contains bbc code (ie.. [code]
[url]..)
how would i display that to be readable?
This is not for a forum, but would be the same as if i was writting a forum.
I think there is a script that the page has to contain to be able to read it
correctly, but I can't find it.
or can i be directed to the correct NG to post this. Not sure where i would
need to post.

Update to redirect search engine highly ranked page
Hi all,
I posted the thread in Jan. and got many responses and I am very appreciated
to those contributors.
Here is my update. After read all suggestions, comments and instructions.
I think use 404 page redirect the users to the new page is doable. But I
believe that I need to brand that redirect with 301 response:
so I replaced the original
Response.Redirect x 'x is new web page addrress
with the following code
Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently"
Response.AddHeader "Location", x
After that I used http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers.asp
to check header information by entering an old page and it did redirect me
to a new page, but I expected that the header informaiton should look like
this: HTTP Status Code - 301 Moved Permanently
But acutally I got the result like this:
HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.0 200 OK
Did I do anything wrong? What's the best place to put custom 404 page?
My testing server is on the intranet, does that matter?
Thank you.

Implicit Data Type Converson
Consider the following code snippet:
<%
Dim intA, strA, strB
intA=5
strA="Hello World"
strB=strA+intA
Response.Write(strB)
%>
The above code generates the "Type mismatch" error pointing to the
line strB=strA+intA but why doesn't VBScript implicitly cast the value
of intA into String when intA is concatenated with strA?
I am aware that VBScript supports only one data type which is Variant. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334459

It restricts access to the page based upon the following values â??
MM_Username
MM_UserAuthorization
I believe that is checking to see whether MM_Username exists and if so
checking to see if the MM_UserAuthorization value is either 1, 2 or 3
I the event that both exist access is granted, in the event that one or
neither exist it redirects the user to MM_authFailedURL (index.asp)
What I would like to do is build a similar behaviour, but that only checks
one value, so instead of checking MM_Username & MM_UserAuthorization it
checks to see whether the variable ACC (which is sent through
Request.QueryString) equals either â??

ASP generating XML prompts save with query string
Hello, I have an issue I am having difficulty diagnosing..
In short, I have a asp page that generates only xml output for use
with an ajax application. On the last step of my process a simple xml-
word document is generated and displayed in a new window (or iframe).
The asp document is called with several querystring elements to
produce the document.
In IE7, when the document is returned from the server a Open/Save
dialog is presented. Here is where things get weird.. Occasionally the
filename will appear as expected, 'callproc.xml', however the majority
of the time the filename will appear as '...param1=00000¶m2=abcd'.
This causes IE to fail opening or saving the document.
The XML being generated is valid and when saved will open with Word as
expected without error. I have also defined the content-type as text/
xml.
Questions:
1. How can I consistently get the returned xml document to appear
correctly without the querystring as part of the file name?
2. Is there anyway to avoid the Open/Save dialog when requesting an
XML document?
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated! Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334438
IDE for Classic ASP?
Hi there.
I'm in the position where learning ASP.NET is not a useful option at
present, but I could really do with finding a decent IDE for writing my ASP
code. I've seen reports that at least one version of Webmatrix supports or
supported Classic ASP, but I don;t know which, or where I can download it
from?
Any help appreciated. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334434
Asp Page Convert to Word Need to Remove Borders
Hi,
I've created a classic asp page with tables. I use
Response.ContentType ="Application/vnd.ms-word"
Response.AddHeader "Content-Disposition","inline;filename=myWord.doc"
and it creates a word document. The problem is all the tables have borders
around them. How do I make it so the borders don't show. In the web page
cellspacing, cellpadding & border = 0. I even made the bgcolor & bordercolor
= white.
Hmmm! Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334432

Retrieving values of dynamic lists
In the code from page test1.asp below I retrieve some records from a
database and create a list of classes available to users. The list
contains the names of the classes with a checkbox next to each class
so that users can select the classes that they want to attend. There
is also a drop-down list next to each class name displaying the dates
that the class will be held.
On test2.asp I retrieve the names of the classes that have been
selected (checkboxes that have been selected) using:
Request.Form("chkClassName"). No problem so far.
I also want to get the DATE that has been selected by the user for
each of the classes that he has selected. I tried retrieving this info
on test2.asp using Request.Form("lstClass") but
Request.Form("lstClass") contains the dates from ALL the drop-down
lists on test1.asp instead of just the dates from the drop-down lists
for the specific classes that the user selected.
For example, if there are 4 classes on the list and the user selects 2
classes then:
Request.Form("chkClassName") contains just the names of the 2 classes
that the user selected - which is what I want. BUT,
Request.Form("lstClass") contains the dates for ALL 4 of the classes
on the list instead of just the dates for the 2 classes that the user
selected. I only want the dates for the 2 classes that the user
selected.
Is there a way to do this?
test1.asp is:
<% @ Language=VBScript %>
<%
Dim conn, sSQL, rs1, rs2
Set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
conn.Open Application("ConnString")
%>

sSQL2 = "SELECT CourseDate FROM tblClassDates WHERE CourseID =

Set rs2 = conn.Execute(sSQL2)
If rs2.eof Then
%>
<tr>
<td><input type="checkbox" name="chkClassName" value="<
%=rs1("CourseID")%>" disabled> (CourseID: <%=rs1("CourseID")%>)</td>
<td><%=rs1("CourseName")%></td>
<td>No dates available</td>
</tr>
<%

<td>

<%

%>
<option name="optDate<%=rs1("CourseID")%>" value="<

<%

Loop
%>
</select>
</td>
</tr>
<%
End If

Set rs2 = nothing
rs1.MoveNext()
Loop
rs1.Close
Set rs1 = nothing

<td colspan="3">
<input type="submit" name="btnSubmit" value="Submit">
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</form>
</body>
</html>
<%
conn.Close
Set conn = nothing
%>
test2.asp contains just a test page with a bunch of response.write
debug statements and a database Insert statement.
I'm using a MSSQL 2005 database and IIS and yes, I will move the sql
statements into stored procedures once I've figured out how to get the
dates from the lists!

Internet Explorer link problem on an aspx page
Forgive me, but I know absolutely nothing about asp coding. My
question is regarding an issue a colleague of mine is having in
Internet Explorer on a website who's URL's have aspx at the end. The
website is using frames ( I assume because regardless what I click,
the URL stays the same). Anyway, when I click on an aspx link on this
site, it goes to the link only for a second, then goes right back to
the original page. But if I choose the very same link from a drop
down menu on the same page, it goes there and stays there. I copied
the shortcut from both links, and they are the same. Also, note that
it is not just one link where this is happening. But the symptoms are
the same. Links that are hyperlinks on the web page go to the
destination briefly then come back, and the same links in the drop
down menu go there, and stay there. The final piece to this mystery,
is that this is only happening on one computer. The computer is
running Windows XP Pro just like the others. So far we have tried
resetting the browser settings back to default, deinstalling and
reinstalling Internet Explorer, as well as upgrading to IE 7. At this
point I am convinced it has nothing to do with the browser, but am at
a loss as to what else it might be. I would provide a link to the
site, but it requires a login, so that would be useless. Any input
would be greatly appreciated. Mike Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334413

Error Handling
Greetings everyone,
I have an ASP page that has two separate forms and a google map. It's
a two step process for the end user, they enter in a prefix in step 1;
a recordset is then built upon the info in step one.
In step two they enter in another 3 numbers that is compared to the
recordset from step1 to produce an ending result and a third recordset
which is then mapped.
I would like to throw a statement in there saying that if the
information from step 2 comes back NULL then throw a javascript
alert.
Step 2 is erroring out on page load which seems to be normal because
no info in step 1 has been passed. But how do I find the error after
form number 2 has been submitted? I develop within a firewall so I
can't post a link but I can post code if someone needs. Any help is
much appreciated. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334391
Encrypted URL
My boss wants to send an email to customers with a URL that allows them
to download updates for our products.
http://download.company.com?prod={encrypted_data}
The encrypted data would contain the product ID, customer ID and a date
stamp. Our code could decrypt the info, compare against a database and
proceed based on various criteria.
I haven't done anything with encryption, so I'm not sure where to begin
on something like this. The important thing is that the encrypted value
is not sequential, it needs some form of CRC or something to verify its
integrity (to prevent people from writing a program that runs through
sequential values trying to crack the site).
Everyone on our site is written in classic ASP, so I'm looking for a
classic ASP solution. Our host provider (godaddy -- not my choice, so
please don't complain at me) does not allow us to install any third-
party components, so unfortunately, that is not an option.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334376
login failed for user
I'm pulling my hair out.
I am trying to set up a website on my home PC for development there. I have
been using my laptop, but want to move it to the desktop.
Both machines are running Windows XP Pro SP2.
Both have SQL Server 2005 standard.
This site works fine in Production, by the way, which is hosted by company
that I am paying monthly.
All I am doing is trying to move the development version of this site from
one machine to another, but I am getting this error:
Error Type:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (0x80004005)
Login failed for user 'asp'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL
Server connection.
/shape/includes/shapedbinc.asp, line 33
Here is the connection string, which is kept in an include file:
strDBConnection ="Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=False;User
ID=asp;Password=xxx;Initial Catalog=SHAPE;Data Source=LUSR0594"
set conn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
conn.open strDBConnection
====================================
Of course, I changed the password for this post. The machine name, which is
also the SQL Server instance name, got changed from LUSR0594 (on the machine
that works) to "HOME" for the desktop. I am sure that this information is
correct.
I have researched the heck out of this, and spent a lot of time at
aspfaq.com, particularly
http://databases.aspfaq.com/database/what-should-my-connection-string-look-like.html
and all suggestions offered are not resolving my particular issue. I have
also been to every link on that page, including KB articles.
I have the computers side by side, comparing settings in the database
itself, and can only find one difference:
In SQL Server Management Studio, I go to the Security navigation tab on the
left. It's the one outside of the list of databases. I expand Security to
Logins, and expand that. I right-click "asp" and go to Properties. On the
left, I highlight User Mapping. On the machine that works, the database
which I use (called "SHAPE") has "asp" in the User column, and db_owner
under default schema.
In the same section on the machine which doesn't work, nothing is in those
columns for that database. Obviously, I tried adding asp and db_owner in
those two respective spots, and cannot get it to save my changes. Mgmt
Studio tells me "User, group, or role 'asp' already exists in the current
database."
I am at a loss and losing tons of valuable time on this. I am not sure what
I need to do.
Any help appreciated. Thanks. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334372
Could someone help with my ASP code below
Hello all,
I have tried other forums and they have been nice enough to help until
a point. I have the following code below and it is doing the
following. Next to an input box I will have something saying choose
from list.(This is working on Test.asp page). When I click on the
text, a popup box opens and there are 2 fields. Once called Partial
Search where a user can start typing his search info. and a
dropdownlist (I don't care what element is used). What it should do
is when the user starts typing a partial search the element below (in
this case the dropdownlist) should start to move or highlight all the
values that equal the partial search (like a lookup table). <b>THIS IS
NOT WORKING</b>. The dropdownlist is querying active directory
(working perfectly) with too many values so this is why I need the
partial search. Then when I click Select (After I found the value I
was looking for), the input box(next to the Choose from list Text)
should be populated with the result of the search term<b>(Also not
working)</b>. Let me know if that makes sense. Thanks.

special character "&" and " ' " in request.querystring URL
Hi all,
how can I pass the special characters as request.querystring value ?
example like "&", since & is used in request.querystring for various
parameters value
It will be cut off until "pass" in text 1, for example
let say:
text1 = "I want to pass & chacater"
test.asp?Text1=<%=text1%>
should I use Server.URLEncode ? But Server.URLEncode doesn't seems to
work either as I tried
I read some ppl suggested using replace method to replace "&" with
normal letters, and at receiving, replace back with "&", but is there
a better one ?
Special characters like ' ' and & are having problem in
request.querystring URL
Any suggestions or workaround ?
Thanks.
cheers,

Media Player Object
I have a media player object in ASP on a default page. I'd like to have the
audio play continuously no matter what page the user goes to.
In all of the ASP files I have:
<!--#include file="header.html"--> right after the <body> tag. The header
file has the page header graphic and menu. I tried to put the <OBJECT> in
header.html but the playlist restarts on every page.
Any way to get the object to load and stay without restarting?
Thanks. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334360
Renew Session variables ?
I wonder is there any way I could renew the Session variables of ASP
before it is expired?
Thanks a lot.

Sending Client Certificate
I'm trying to set up and use a client certificate given to us by a 3rd party
to request and receive their XML data. With the provided cert, the only
instructions they've given us is to import the cert into IE and export to a
.pfx file.
I used the MMC Certificate Snap in to get the cert into the certificate
store (I think that part's OK but not 100% sure if I've granted access etc.)
Then I used winhttpcertcfg.exe. to grant access. I'm just not sure about
the account(s). I've granted access to the following accounts by using the
following command:
winhttpcertcfg -g -c LOCAL_MACHINE\MY -s "CsS Services -a IWAM_SECURE
I've run that command for various accounts. Here's the listing now using:
winhttpcertcfg -l -c LOCAL_MACHINE\MY -s "CsS Services"
Microsoft (R) WinHTTP Certificate Configuration Tool
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 2001.
Matching certificate:
E=tom.gaughan@excursiontech.com
CN=CsS Services
OU=Identity authenticated by RA
OU=Email control validated by GeoTrust
OU=See TCX CPS www.geotrust.com/resources/CPS
OU=CPS terms incorp. by ref. liability ltd.
O=Org. not validated.
Additional accounts and groups with access to the private key include:
BUILTIN\Administrators
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
SECURE\IUSR_SECURE
SECURE\IWAM_SECURE
SECURE\ASPNET
Now when I run this code using WinHttp.WinHttpRequest I get the following
error:
WinHttp.WinHttpRequest error '80072f9a'
A security error occurred
This still occurs on objSrvHTTP.Send. I've tried both GET and POST and get
the same error. Previous to correctly (at least I think it's been run
correctly) run winhttpcertcfg we were getting "msxml3.dll error '80072f0c' A
certificate is required to complete client authentication"
MS advised to install SP 2 (Windows Server 2003 Standard) and use
WinHttp.WinHTTPRequest instead of Msxml2.ServerXMLHTTP.
Here's the code:
set objSrvHTTP = Server.CreateObject ("WinHttp.WinHttpRequest.5.1")
set objXMLDocument = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.DOMDocument")
set objXMLReponseDocument = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.DOMDocument")
objXMLDocument.async = false
objXMLDocument.load(Server.MapPath("Request.xml"))
' WinHttp.WinHttpRequest.5.1
' CN from certificate which is in Local Computer\Personal\Certificates
objSrvHTTP.SetClientCertificate "LOCAL_MACHINE\MY\CsS Services"
objSrvHTTP.open "GET", "https://test.rbsecure.com/secure2/bin/XMLPost",
false
objSrvHTTP.SetRequestHeader "content-Type","text/xml"
objSrvHTTP.send objXMLDocument
Response.Write objSrvHTTP.ResponseText
Thanks in advance for any help...Tom Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334352
How can I end the HTTP response but continue executing ASP?
Hi there, when my ASP page receives the client request, I want to
gather the request data (form), promptly end the response to the
client (successful) and continue doing what I need to do with the
data, the result of which does not affect the response, hence why i
don't want to waste time leaving the connection open or keeping the
client waiting, I suppose you could call the client request a
"trigger".
I do not mind using ASP functions to fork, therad, execute or using
the buffer, whatever works... but I am very new to ASP/VBScript so I
do not know how to do this, and I think the Response.End will end ASP
execution, and I am not sure how to end only the HTTP response using
the buffer.
I don't want the client request to time out, I do not know the clients
time out settings.
I am not even sure if it is possible, perhaps it is a requirement of
ASP that the client waits for all ASP to execute, but there must be
some way, even using system calls or something to do this.
Thanks, George. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334350
wss crashed default web site.
Hi,
I had installed WSS v3 sp1 few days ago and had created a web site for one
of my web application under Default Web Site by accident. And then I
deleted the association not the entire Default Web Site) through the
Sharepoint Central Admin web interface. Afterwards, everything under
Default Web Site behaved oddly. For example, Remote Workspace out of order.
Error message as follow:
Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is
currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser
to retry your request.
Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific
request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server.
Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.
How could I fix the problem? How could I reinstall those original web
applications without reinstall SBS entirely? The best thing, of course,
would be the entire 'Default Web Site' back to what it used to be without
any reinstallation.
I'm running SBS 2003 Premium fully updated.
Please help. Thanks. Tag: RE: Shopping Tag: 334328
