    - Performance Question ? Hello: I have a database with 300,000 records. I have two "DATE" columns and I need to calcluate the difference and display the number of days in one of the reports. I was wondering if this calculation of days should be done on the fly or is it OK to have a "Difference Date" column[Contains Number of Days] and retrieve the same ? Their will be not more than 50 concurrent users accesing it. However, in the next 6 months the record size is expected to reach 800,000.     - Load Testing and performance We have an asp application some of which will be being ported over to asp.net so this may be a little OT. It is having some bad performance problems and we need to isolate which areas are causing the problems. The main performance problems are database related i.e. timeouts and deadlocks Some questions: Microsoft's ACT. How is it better than the Web Stress Application Tool? Is ACT purely .net or can be used to look at any web app. What is a good way of assessing which pages are causing the problems. How can I relate the performance of the database to the application. The system has LOTS (this app has 1000's of pages) of sql passed as strings will this affect how easy the profiler is to read. I suspect there are lots of memory leaks, are there any tools to look at what is being left in the memory. Hello- For some reason, at a website that has been trouble free for a couple of months, multiple ASPSESSIONID's are now being set by IIS for each client visitor, rather than the one you'd expect. When you first visit the site and hit a page that sets a session, the response.write of the HTTP_COOKIE server variable looks like you'd expect...with just the one IIS-assigned ASPSESSIONID: HTTP_COOKIE= ASPSESSIONIDQSADRADT=DJGKPNMACDAJEPGHHKEPFOEB ...but when you add items to your shopping basket(stored in a db, no persistent cookies being used), then go view your order or continue shopping and view the response.write again, it's now a string of ASPSESSIONID's like: HTTP_COOKIE= ASPSESSIONIDQSADRADT=DJGKPNMACDAJEPGHHKEPFOEB; ASPSESSIONIDQSCCTBDS=NPKKPFKAPCNEEBMEKIDCPNKG; ASPSESSIONIDSSCARBCS=JDCHGKPAOJFMKEAGIIMLGCAD The problem manifests itself in that RANDOMLY, IIS appears to be recognizing the user/client as one or the other of the ASPSESSIONID's in the string...in effect, IIS no longer recognizes the user that added items to their basket a minute ago because it is paying attention to one of the other ASPSESSIONID's in the string which haven't got any session variables defined via scripting....you can refresh your page a few times and it thinks you are a different visitor with no sessions...refresh a few more times and it thinks you're the original person with active sessions...a very frustrating issue. The server is Windows Server 2003 and has IIS 6 on it. I've done a lot of digging on the web for information about this phenomenon, but nothing I've found seemed applicable ...or worked. 1. The website doesn't use frames 2. The problem occurs whether staying in http or https or crossing between the two types of connections 3. The server is not a member of a web farm that utilizes load balancing 4. I've assured that my global.asa file has read and execute permissions for IUSR 5. I've stubbed out everything in the Session_OnStart sub of my global.asa file 6. I've pulled out hand-fulls of hair, cussed and gritted my teeth for several days ..nothing works...     - Error running ASP in IIS I am trying to run an ASP page in IIS 6.0 and I keep getting one of two errors: -2147467259 (0x80004005) The remote procedure call failed and did not execute. I have Win XP. It's been running fine for a long time and then yesterday, for no apparent reason, I get this. I've tried the links to asp.faq that I've seen others post and nothing works. As a test, I created a simple ASP page with just '<% Response.Write("Hello") %>' in it and still the error occurs so it's not a scripting or database problem. DotNet seems to run fine and I can run HTML pages, I also have Apache and can run PHP scripts with no problem ... everything except classic ASP. Any ideas? This is driving me crazy and I need IIS running because I am falling behind in my work. As I mentioned, I've been running ASP scripts on this machine for years and have never seen this problem. The ASP app was written entirely with plain text editors. I would like to set up debugging for it, but it seems that in order to debug, I must have a 'project'.     - "Breaking out" of a Server.Execute call? Greetings, folks. Wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on this without my having to load up 'n test it for myself. I have a page calling another with Server.Execute, but depending on what the outcome of some data checks on that called page is, it may need to "break out" of the call with a Response.Redirect. What I want to know is, will this eventually lead to memory leaks because there's no return to the original calling page? The environment's a "plain vanilla" IIS installation under Windows Server 2003 Web Edition. Ultimately I suppose it's not entirely crucial that I need to use this method; I could always break the original page into two and use Server.Transfer to avoid the possibility of "left-overs," but I hope someone here can state with at least a little authority whether or not this problem might occur.     - Save As Dialog Box When users submit a Form with a SQL query, the resultset is retrieved from a MS-Access database table which is then exported to an MS-Excel worksheet. After the records get exported to MS-Excel, I want to give users the option to download the Excel file to their local machine. In other words, when users click a download link, I want the Save As.. dialog box to pop-up so that users can save the Excel file to their local machine (note that I don't want users to view the Excel worksheet in their browser).     - Problem repeating a query within an ADO Transaction I have a fairly simple ASP application talking to an Oracle 10g DB using a mixture of ADO (OraOLEDB) and OO4O - the query here concerns some ADO code. One part of the application records PartNo/SerialNo combinations; the user specifies a PartNo, a SerialNo and the parent PartNo - the parent takes the SerialNo from the child object - and the application INSERTs these as records into the DB. Amongst the validation, is a check to confirm that each PartNo/SerialNo combination has not be used before. This code seems to work fine. Clearly, if the user enters the same PartNo for both the child and parent items, the DB would ordinarily complain: "ORA-00001: unique constraint (IFSAPP.PART_SERIAL_CATALOG_PK) violated ORA-06512" However, I'm expecting the validation routines to handle this clash before the INSERT statement is attempted. Unfortunately, in this type of scenario this is not the case - the validation routine responds that the parent PartNo/SerialNo has not been used before, and thus the INSERT is attempted and the unique constraint error occurs. I assume that this is because previous INSERTs were not committed since the whole operation is wrapped up within an ADO transaction. However, I would have expected that the validation code would have taken an changes made within the transaction into account, but it doesn't appear to be the case. Is my logic wrong, or should I be expecting the validation to consider previous statements within the same transaction? If my expectations are correct, where might I be going wrong? What Iâ??m trying to do is force the search page in the subdirectory, conduct its search ONLY in the subdirectory, and NOT display results from the parent/root.
