    - Importing comma delimited file I've been asked to develop a semi-automated type situation where we have a database table (sql server) and periodically, there will be a comma delimited file from which we need to import the data, replacing the old. I naurally know that we can use [truncate tablename] to kill the other data, but does anyone have any examples of importing a comma delimited file into SQL Server with ASP?     - Session Problems with Desktop Shortcuts in IE I have an issue that I've been encountering in an ASP application I'm working on. Most of the application is written in ASP, but there is one page written in ASP.NET. The ASP.NET page needs to have access to the ASP Session data to run correctly. In order to achieve this I create my own HTTP request for a certain ASP page with the name of Session variable that I want is stored in the query string of the request. The requested ASP page sends back the Session value in the response (you can see more on this at http://searchvb.techtarget.com/vsnetTip/1,293823,sid8_gci951935_tax293033,00.html). This seems to work in general but we have noticed a few difficult to reproduce problems with this. When multiple instances of the web app are set up in different virtual directories and the user creates desktop shortcuts to access each installation, there appears to be problems with the Session data. When the user opens up more than one shortcut at once, it looks as though all the browsers are running under one IEXPLORE.EXE process. This would explain things if the ASPSESSIONID cookie, which holds the ID for the Session data to use for a particular user, is held in the shared process. However, on different servers the Session bug is not always reproducible. In other words if the user has a desktop shortcuts to "http://Server1/app1/login.asp" and another to "http://Server1/app2/login.asp", the Session accessing will have problems. However if you do the same thing on a different server, that is "http://Server2/app1/login.asp" and to "http://Server2/app2/login.asp", the bug will *not* occur. The servers are running different versions of Windows and IIS, so I'm sure that has something to do with it, but I just can't figure out what. Through some experimentation using FireFox and Live HTTP Headers, we found that sometimes FireFox will contain two ASPSESSIONID cookies, where the characters after "ASPSESSIONID", but before the '=' sign, are different. Since both FireFox browsers were running in the same process and yet somehow correctly handled the Session data, we assumed these extra characters helped the server distinguish which Session data the browser needed. However, these cookies have magically stopped appearing (though FireFox still seems to handle the Session correctly). And I've never gotten the multiple cookie thing to happen in IE. Has anyone heard of this issue? Since people use desktop shortcuts quite a bit, I would have expected this issue to have occurred a number of times in the past, but I'm having trouble finding any info on it.     - trying to open excel from a page (changes in 2002+) hi.. i'm trying to have excel open up a webpage which basically contains a table. in excel 2000 if i specify content type text/csv this works by displaying an open/save dialog box and clicking open, launches excel and displays data as a table (desired result ) however in machines with excel 2002+ excel simply displays the html code. trying to specify application/excel opens an excel plug-in inside the browser which poses a problem becouse the excel has links to pdf file that obscure the plug-in.     - asp component error Hi I am having a problem with a com object on WinXP Pro. It is properly registered, but gives me the following error: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3' Server.CreateObject Failed /code/cgi-sec/upload.asp, line 3 Invalid class string I do not have windows firewall active and it does the same thing with firewall/virus/spyware software disabled.     - Functions pass by ref or by value? I have a function called GetRS which takes in a SQL string and returns a recordset object. Does this mean that a copy of the recordset is returned or is it passed by reference? Obviously this could have a large impact on performance for large recordsets.     - Displaying carriage returns in a memo field Can someone please help with a suggestion as to how I can keep the formatting (carriage returns) that the user enters into a memo field and then display that later.     - User Account Security Hi I'm trying to design a web application where people can create user Ids and passwords while signing up and then use that information to login to an account. (I know, very basic). I just can't get my mind around how to make this system most secure. the user id and password is verified at the time of logging in and at that point, I would like to create something like a session key before openning the new page. I basically don't want to start the new page by passing regular parameters through the URL because that's very easy to manipulate and break. Can someone give me some information about creating a secure system like this and/or forward me some useful sources?? btw.. I'm using, IIS as my server, ASP.Net and VB.Net.     - Posting Data From .aspx to WorldPay Hi, I am writing a script that requires two actions performed on the same page; 1) upload pictures and store them on the server & 2) Send all of the variables from the WebForm to the WorldPay servers via the POST method.     - Date/Calendar query Hi all, I have an events database (Access) that contains 2 fields, StartDate and EndDate. The fields are set as Date/Time long date. The server is UK date format (dd/mm/yyyy) I have a small calendar that changes the day of the month to a link if an event exists for that day. I start off on day 1 of the month and use a loop through the month until the last day. Each run through the month queries the DB to see if an events exists with this sql: sql="SELECT ListingsID FROM tblEventsListings WHERE StartDate <= #" & DispDate & "# AND EndDate >= #" & DispDate & "#;" The DispDate is generated as part of the loop and is producing the date correctly. My problem is that if an event has the same start/finish day (single day event) then it gets missed. Also, an event that runs over a couple of months seems to randomly be displayed. eg, the calendar will show an event exists for 4 days, then 5 days of no event then events exist for the rest of the month.     - server application error I use to always be able to view my local ASP pages at http://localhost, but a few days ago, it started giving me the following notice: =================== Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. It happens on each and every ASP page I try to view. I haven't changed anything, haven't put up any Microsoft patches or anything. I suspect spyware. I run the usual anti-spyware/adware programs quite often, and catch one or two items just about every time. That dang Winfixer came in a couple weeks ago, and it was pretty nasty, but I digress. Help, I am using an encryption routine that occasionally will encrypt a string using some extended ASCII characters (ASCII code > 128) I am wondering if there is a reserved character in VB that signifies the end of a string of characters. Here is what happens: I am encrypting certain fields before adding them to a SQL string. On occassion, the SQL string will simply end in the middle of the encrypted value. Example code sSQL = "EXEC SaveDetails " & _ " @iDetailID = " & iDetailID & ", " & _ " @sEncryptedText = '" & _ replace(EncryptText(sText),"'","''") & "', " & _ " @iOtherValue = 6" Normally Response.Write would print something like this: using Response.Write(Server.HTMLEncode(sSQL)): EXEC SaveDetails @iDetailID = 3, @sEncryptedText = 'aw@##@QASV@#AV (!', @iOtherValue = 6 Occasionally on certain inputs for sEncryptedText it will print: EXEC SaveDetails @iDetailID = 3, @sEncryptedText = '@#DFVIDXZI Is my encryption algorithm possible generating a reserved character that signifies the end of a string? Does such a character exist in VBscript? Any help would be appreciated. FYI, I'd rather not post my encryption routine. Please let me know if you feel it would be necessary.     - Under High IE Security buttons don't work Hi All, I've got a set of asp pages used to register students into the ResNet database. Testing things out under different browser security settings I ran into a problem. The following buttons.... <INPUT type=button id="EditInfo" name="EditInfo" value="Edit Information" class="ButtonBlue" style="WIDTH: 150px" onclick="location.href='EditResNetInformation.asp'"> <INPUT type=button id="GoToGetMAC" name="GoToGetMAC" value="Continue" class="ButtonBlue" style="WIDTH: 150px" onclick="location.href='GetMACNow.asp'"> ....on page ReadySetGetMAC.asp (in text following) do not do anything in the onclick when Internet Explorer has High Internet zone Security. No error is given.....it looks as if the page has only been refreshed. GetMACNow.asp (also in text following) is 1 of the 2 pages which can be called from the ReadySetGetMAC.asp page. Right now it is nothing fancy at all. If I place http://<MyIPAddress>/WebRegTest/GetMACNow.asp directly into the address I can go to GetMACNow.asp as I can go directly to the 2nd page when directly addressed. I seem to be able to go between other asp pages in this project with nothing similar happening. Also the pages seem to work correctly when using Firefox or Netscape, but I'm not certain I've got them set to their highest security setting. So......why don't those buttons work, in particular (I guess), under IE's High Security settings and how do I get them to work under these settings? We have an ASPX (C#) webform which hosts dropdownlists, textboxes, grids, checkboxes, etc. The users want to: #1 - "FREEZE" the entire webpage contents (and state) #2 - move IE browser to another URL (possibly several URLs ... maybe even terminate the session and restart another session an hour+ later) #3 - but eventually to return to the original FROZEN page #4 - and .... shazam .... everything is exactly like they left it I know I could write code to save the contents and state of each control into the database ONE CONTROL AT A TIME. Then reconstitute the form later ONE CONTROL AT A TIME. But that would be SOOOOOO much work. Imagine this, the Server time is 10 hours ahead of Client time. When you edit a file and check it in at 2/23 9:00PM (Client time), but on the Server side, time of this version reads 2/24 7:00AM. So in the future when you need to get version of 2/23 9:00PM actually, you may mistakenly get another version. Usability: SAW is the best. All the Windows of SAW is in Win32 style. It can detect if a file is changed automatically.
