    - Problem in building dynamic sql update statement Hi, I am trying to update database from asp. However, the finalupdate field is not working here.     - New Window Kills Browser When Connected to Oracle I have an ASP page setup for doing maintenance jobs in Oracle. Clicking a maintenance job spawns a new window (cut down to a small size with Javascript) and the jobs runs. Just before processing starts I output a message to the user in this new window using a span (with an ID) using Response.Flush. This is to let the user know that processing has started. After the procedure has completed, I update the span message using its ID with 'processed' or 'failed' accordingly. So far so good! The problem I have is that it only worked during development. This seems to be because during development I used an example I picked up from the ASPFAQ site to simulate database activity (ie a 15 second delay) without actually doing anything using SQLServer: sleep = 15 cn.open "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=SVR;User Id=id;Password=pw" cn.Execute "WAITFOR DELAY '00:00:" & sleep & "'" With the above script everything worked great, and I could open three or four different procedures and have them all running simultaneously. Just what I wanted! However when I switched to running the actual procedures Oracle (which take a couple of minutes) I've found that it will only run one procedure at a time. And while this one procedure is running I lose communication with the parent window (the list of jobs) until the procedure has finished. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? The only difference (apart from the SQL) between running in live (Oracle) and simulating activity using SQL Server is the Provider. Could the Oracle provider be missing something the SQL Server Provider has? And if so, what might this be and can I get round it? I've copied an example maintenance job page below.     - Problem in Response.write statement to retrieve a field in a check Hi, Here is my problem: I am logging in to a page, where the page retrieves a record from a database. The text boxes are used in the display formto let the users update the fields, if they desire to. The colorpreference and foodpreference fields are text fields while the FinalUpdate field is a yes/no field in Access Database. While retieving the values, the FinalUpdate field value is not showing up as it should. e.g. if for the record the database has a checked field for FinalUpdate(i.e. yes) then the chkFinalUpdate checkbox in the form should be checked. Instead it shows unchecked. I believe the code to retrive the value of the final update field is not correct. Any help is appreciated here for problem resolution.     - Add Records to an Iseries (AS/400) Server Hi All, I've gotten to the point where I can read records from our AS/400, but when I write, it goes through the motions but does not write anything. Out of the 100's of = orders placed since Friday, we lost 25 orders because we didn't have the = credit card no or billing information. The browser = varies from Win95 and Win98 to AOL10 and WinNT 5.1 (WinXP). So it doen't = appear to be a client side issue, it appears to the be server.     - Change in Short Date format under Hebrew Regional Settings This is regarding a change in the Short Date format under Hebrew Regional Settings, that has caused huge problems in our ASP web application. The change appears to have been introduced sometime before Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 and has remained through to Windows XP. I am looking for a solution that doesn't involve rewriting our application (much) and that allows all our users to keep using Hebrew Regional Settings. To summarize our problem - we have an ASP-based intranet web application that is used in our Israel office. Before we installed Windows 2000 SP4 on our web server and on the client machines in the office, the application ran perfectly. Dates appeared on the pages and in input textboxes in the correct dd/mm/yyyy format. Immediately after installing SP4, dates on the pages and in input textboxes are formatted as yyyy/mm/dd. This is not just a visual change, it has caused many functions in the application to break. No change was made in the Control Panel Regional Options on the clients or server. In fact if you look there, when Hebrew is chosen, the short date format on the Date tab is set to dd/mm/yyyy. We have pinned the problem down to residing in the vbShortDate argument with the VBScript function FormatDateTime. Following the installation of SP4, RTL control characters are inserted (unicode character 8207) after each date separator (/) in the date returned. I am certain that this is a bug with windows, or a badly implemented new 'feature'. Suppose we're working with the date January 20, 2004 and the serverside ASP code is returning exactly this (unformatted): 20/01/2004 1:00:00 When we format the date using FormatDateTime(datevalue, vbGeneralDate) we get this (the exact same thing): 20/01/2004 1:00:00 However, when we format the date using FormatDateTime(datevalue, vbShortDate) we get this: [Char8207]20/[Char8207]01/[Char8207]2004 This translates to display (inside an input field in internet explorer) to: 2004/01/20, although the date is really being written as the line above, i.e. [Char8207]20/[Char8207]01/[Char8207]2004. Internet Explorer is writing the date to the screen correctly, but the control characters that the formatdatetime function using vbshortdate argument are inserting are rearranging the display. The reason this is such a big problem is that other ASP functions that process dates do not recognise these dates that include the control characters as valid. If we use the IsDate function on the output of FormatDateTime("20/1/2004", vbShortDate) the result is FALSE (because the control characters exist). Does anyone know of a permanent solution to this problem that doesn't involve rewriting our application (much) and that allows all our users to keep using Hebrew Regional Settings?     - Showing Calculated fields in the form Hi, I have a asp input form of a financial report. Here most of the fields are text boxes where the user need to input the values corresponding to an item. However, there are few items which are calcuated field. Prior to submission of the information, I would like the user to know what the calculated field be (based on the information input in text boxes) before submission of the form.     - error while hosting asp.net in managed c++ dll. I have a pluggable asp.net hosting provider which uses a cassini-based http listener if the platform is win2k or xp (non sp2), and uses a HTTPAPI (http.sys) based listener in a managed c++ dll if the platform in win2k3 or XPsp2. The solution works perfectly when the HttpWorkerRequest is implemented in a c# dll. When it is implemented in the managed c++ dll, I always get the following error: The application's configuration files must contain 'trust' section. Stepping through the code, I can see that asp.net receives my HttpWorkerRequest and properly maps the directory to where I have my web.config. Adding a trust section doesn't help for any values in it. It's not a permissions problem because I've not only given the file full control for Everyone, but when debugging I can see that the process is in fact running as an administrator. I have come up with a script to produce the names into a Select list, but know i'm wanting them to be read into a textarea box, to allow me to submit them into from the form into the sendmail.asp page! but the only way i can pass them out, is into a iframe, which doesn't seem to allow me to then pass them into the sendmail.asp page for sending.     - numeric value and string okay.. this should be long.. I made up a table in database with access consists of columns with text type. Some of them I put in data with numeric value and some of them I put in "Unlimited" as the value. Then, I allowed people to insert data but only with conditions. They can insert data if the value they are trying to insert is smaller than the one in the database. For "unlimited" value, they can insert any value. My problem is.... if the limited value in the database is 35, we cant insert data of 40 but we can insert data of 100. It seems that the code only takes the first number to be compared to the value in the database.     - Blank ASP pages. Hello, We use Vignette V5.6 to display our site. In our CMA site, we have a page which has FRAMESET and in one of the frames we call a ASP page. There seems to be some problem that the frame shows the ASP page is blank. When we restart the IIS it works fine. But after some time it again shows the blank. If we get one blank page, all the asp pages under the same virtual directory, called in the Frame shows blank. FYI.     - Locking all text boxes in asp page Hi, I need advise as to how to do the following. In a asp page, the user can input information via text boxes which goes to a database. If users click a check box named final and submit the asp page, then next time they come, they will not be able to change any information. This means, I would like to grey out the text boxes so that users are unable to edit the values in the text boxes. The only way to allow edit is via adminstrator's intervention. I put this in a Cookie. 2 When i click on one of the page linked it checks if an entry in the database exists for specified page, user(from the cookie), action. this page is with Anonymous login and so it uses the Account i set as anonymous user. 3 If it's ok i show the form mixing querystring and form 4 on submit (javascript function) when i echo all the content of the request i only see the querystring. NOW if i put Basic authentication on the Page... i see the request.form and the request.querystring...     - ASP & Excel Hi, I'm trying to export an ASP based report to Excel while preserving its display properties. I've added: Response.ContentType="application/vnd.ms-excel", and it works fine for several clients. For other clients it displays an emptry excel sheet. I'm not sure, but i think it has something to do with the excel version installed on clients - empty sheets were displayed for Excel 2000 clients while clients running Excel 2002 displayed the report correctly. If I add: Response.AddHeader("attachment","file_name=%file_name%"), all clients display the data correctly but the styles are lost.     - Mutex page operations I have a site which is using caching for some frequently used pages. When the page-level cache expires, or is expired by me, the page will get re-rendered to a static HTML file and then shown to the user, after it has been rendered. Assume the cache is stale. Somebody comes along and requests the page. It will then get re-generated, but whilst this is happening, if somebody comes along and requests the page again then they can get an error because the static HTML page file is still being recreated by the previous page request. What I think I need is a mutex for the page to stop this from happening, for the second page request, during cache refresh. So: 1st request owns the mutex until finished, and, whilst it's updating, all other page requests wait on the mutex. How can I implement a 'mutex' style operation for this scenario in ASP or handle it better to avoid this situation from happening? I've got my code able to understand if the page being requested is actually being updated, so I could just redirect the client back to the same script again, but at the same time the update process itself takes less than a second, so if the page could somehow wait for the operation to complete it would be a cleaner operation. I tried wrapping the Sleep API in a COM object, but this didn't seem to work and I'm just looking for a bit of a sanity check on the best way to go about this. They are named textbox_a and textbox_b. I then split the comma separated list that gets posted: textbox_a = split(Request.Form("textbox_a"),",") for i = ubound(textbox_a) ...insert into db then do the same for textbox_b If anyone puts a comma into one of the text boxes, this will result in unmatched pairs.
