    - If statement confusion I have an app that I am building that takes user input on 1 page then inserts/updates it on the next page. There are a total of 20 pages, with data from page1 being modified by page2 and so on. I am trying to figure out how to incorporate back buttons into this app, so the user can go back. Currently I have tried many different ways to do this (short of re-writing the pages to submit to themselves and then redirecting).     - ldap authentication to AD on 2003-server Hey All! I have a problem with authentication against Active Directory! The following code worked fine when running against AD on Win2k, but the AD-system had to be switched to 2003 servers recently, and now it does not work anymore! According to our system-guys the problem is that the ldap-connection to AD on 2003 server now needs authentication! My question is, how can I provide username/password to this connection??     - XMLHTTP and Norton Internet Security Hi all, I developed a web site that uses javascript and XMLHTTP to dynamically load info on the page from the server without having to re-load the page. Recently I've received complaints of it not working, and the common thread is that these users have Norton Internet Security installed (sorry, don't know the version, but let's assume the latest). I don't have NIS. Can anyone give me clear instructions as to how a user can change his/her NIS settings so that a certain site may be trusted or so that users can use sites that utilize the XMLHTTP object?     - ASP Form Array - Delimiter Problem Hey all... I'm submitting various form variables as arrays, so when I do try to access them when the form is submitted, i do a split on the variable and pop it into an array. for example: aDescriptions = split(request.form("strDescriptions"), ", ") The problem however is if a description contains a comma in the text, it throws off the split function. My problem, I've combined "log in" and "access levels" to restrict access to certain pages, using the built in "log in" and "user authentication, restrict access to page" features. But I find the after login I constantly get redirected from the restricted pages. I.e. admin get redirected even though they meet the security level. Can anyone help?     - ASP_0113 Script_timed_out 500 I have several pages that query an Oracle database on another server. The search forms have been working until recently. Now I get a script time out error. I checked oracle and queries are not even making it to the database. That tells me the web site server lost its connection to the database server. But, I don't know what I am talking about. What could be causing this? Code has not changed. I am thinking our IS department changed a setting somewhere but, they say it is the code.     - Replacing - and not Replacing... Hi all, Been a long time since I've been here... /me waves to all.. Ok - my conundrum.. I have a form where a user can enter text and BB codes...for example: [b]bold text[/b] I then parse the form when submitted with something like this: strContent = Replace(strContent, "[b]", "<b>") strContent = Replace(strContent, "[/b]", "</b>") Content is then written to the database, when displayed out comes the html. If they want to edit the content again it goes through the parser again but in reverse affectively and puts all the square brackets back in... My problem is around the carriage returns... At the moment I am replacing a vbCRLF with <br> - the problem is when they have something like this: [table] [tr] [td]my cell[/td][td]my second cell[/td] [/tr] [/table] I get a load of <br>'s that I don't really want, and of course because the table stuff in this case is replaced with the html for the table the <br>'s appear above it pushing it down the page - nightmare... What I am after I suppose is a way of being able to say - change a vbCRLF for a <br> but only if it's not proceeding any of the following.... My initial thoughts were parse again - and remove and <br>'s if they are joined to say any of the above tags... strContent = Replace(strContent, "</tr><br>", "</tr>") for example...but it's not pretty, it doesn't feel "clever" and would require a load of additional parsing where mistakes could easily be made... The square bracketting tags etc will remain regardless of how this is resolved, so please no suggestions for css etc, but if anyone has any 'compatible' :) ideas please let me know.     - Progress type dialog... I have a web app that converts files. The conversion can take up to 20 minutes depending on the file size and contents. So, to help the user I want to display an animation (gif/avi/swf) while this happens. (so that they don't assume it has stopped and go and submit the file again!) I have tried all sorts of options but cannot get any animation to play while IE/NS is waiting for the asp script to process and post back. anyone got any ideas???     - IIS freezing after installing DSL I have been using IIS under XP Pro to develop/test asp scripts locally. This has performed with no problems for over two years. Recently, all of my scripts timeout (nothing returned to the browser). I've tried restarting IIS but receive an error message stating that it could not be restarted in "a timely manner". I see conflicting information so I did some tests on my own. getstring and getrows are actually faster than recordset looping. However, I've read in looping that Do While...Loop is the fastest and For...Next the slowest but my tests prove otherwise.     - Looking for a Round "to larger value" code! Hi all! I've been searching for a rounding function or some other means to round a decimal number "to larger", always, but it can't find it. I have been looking at the Fix(), Int() and CInt() functions, but all of them behaves in ways making hard to make this happend. Some examples: - Int(val) Fix(val) : Truncates, except if val is negative, then they behave different! - CInt(val) : quote "CInt function always rounds it to the nearest even number. For example, 0.5 rounds to 0, and 1.5 rounds to 2." end quote. So even if I was to add an offset to the val inside the call like CInt(val + 0.5), this doesn't do it if val is = 0.499, CInt(0.499 + 0.5) = 0, since that is the nearest even number!!     - Recordset for page count I would like to ask how to return the recordset for page count. The problem i faced is if it got 2 pages of results, it will display same results for two page. For example, totally got 17 results, and we choose 10 records per page, first page should display 10 results,and 2nd page display 7 results. But now first page can display 10 results, but the 2nd page also display 10 results as 1st page. And when i respons.write the page count, it return -1 and it suppose to return 2. There are 1187 categories, 471 products (This may seem like an odd ratio, It's structured that way due to the nature of the business). Categories can hold any number of other categories, and products. For info, just running showCatsWithinCat with the call to showProdsWithinCat commented out, takes approx 10 seconds. With the products displayed takes approx 40 seconds! I was thinking perhaps some TSQL to generate this within SQL server - Not sure this was speed things up though? Also, I wouldnt know where to start with TSQL. I was just testing the output on screen then pasting that into a file, after removing the extra white space, and inserting line breaks. I have a fairly simple asp page that displays data from a SQL 2000 database in the form of web links. A part of this page allows people to post links to the database for display. When someone posts a link, I would like an email sent to me with the data (link) that they posted through the ASP page.     - Response.BinaryWrite for one JPEG is Very Slow I am using Response.BinaryWrite to display JPEG's to the browser. The problem is that in IE, one particular JPEG is loading very slow. Normal JPEG's take a few seconds, but this one sometimes takes up to 30 seconds. THe weird thing is that if I refresh really quick, the JPEG appears for quick second, and then the new Response.BinaryWrite kicks in. So, it looks like the browser has the image, but for some reason it is not finishing loading it into the browser. However, PHB wants to be able to create some pivot tables from said reports (again.. no biggie) and when he goes to save the file, Excel wants to save the file as a web page instead of and Excel spreadsheet. Now.. I know the simple thing here is to just pick Excel from the drop down box in the save as dialog.. but.. PHB would "prefer" to not have to do that.     - IIS6/worker processes/performance counters Hi... We're looking at moving an ASP app from IIS 5 to IIS 6. In general things seem to be working okay, but there are some oddities around the edges. One of those unanticipated changes has to do with the new process model and the option to have more than one worker process per web instance. We found that each worker process has its own Application() state and anything your app puts there/uses gets a new copy for every worker process. So depending on how much initialization your app does in Appication() that expense could get paid over and over as IIS 6 cycles worker processes based on idleness, load, memory use, etc. The facet I still have a question about is performance counters. When you have multiple worker processes for a web instance, are the usual performance counters like Active Server Pages/Requests Total, Requests Queued, etc aggregated across worker processes? How are they impacted by worker process cycling? How about custom performance counters? I assume we'd probably have to take extra effort to aggregate custom pcounters across worker processes - is that right? I said random why from the same asp page call anothers asp pages. The
problem occurre to the 7, 18, 20 time that the first page call to another
page.
