    - Session Variable not working I use a simple session variable set / not set for password protecting access to certain directories on my intranet site. <% If Session("id") = "" Then Response.Redirect "enter_NPC.asp" Else End if %> Recently, I have been getting complaints that some users accessing with Internet Explorer cannot reach the site and are being sent to the redirect page. These same users can get login using Netscape though, and it is only maybe 10 out of 100 users being denied.     - SQL Timeout Dear all, I need run a few large queries for one time only. But I get scripttimeout. So I set up server.ScriptTimeout value. It works fine. But for one query, system gives me the following error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server (0x80040E31) Timeout expired No matter how much I increase ScriptTimeout value, I still have the same error.     - ASP Hi, We have a WIn2k SP4 server running IIS 5.0. I can't get it to run ASP pages. HTML pages are fine. This is a new installation and ASP has never worked. I get a HTTP 500 error when we try the ASP page. The only modification from default installation is that the default website directory has been moved to D: partition.     - dateAdd and datePart return 13, 14, 15 instead of 1, 2, 3 I'm trying to increment between the end of lunch and the end of the day. The code below is returning a datePart of 13 instead of 1 (for 1:00:00 PM) and 14 instead of 2:00:00 PM etc.. If response.write just counter2 I get a real hour.     - Printing I have an asp application that needs to print to a specific network printer. I am currently making it work by using the FSO and setting the path to the printer port, then writing out a string. The problem with that is that all the formatting I can do is with line feeds and tabs. Ideally, I'd like to pop open an html page on the client machine, print it, then close it. Is there any way to simulate calling window.print without pulling up the printer dialog box? Either in asp or in client side script? Any other suggestions on how to handle this?     - recordcount -1 I'm simply trying to get a number of records returned in a recordset, and just get a -1. I have looke din a few books and other references, can't seem to find any answers. Anyone have any idea why I can't get a real number? For the record, the recordset is not empty. In fact, it has many records which I can see plainly on the screen.     - OT: WinXP - how can i see whats starting up across the board? im irritated that every time i insert a cdrom i get a windows alert informing me that some windows files are being overwritten, ive checked for a virus and spyware and deleted every thing ive found to no avail. i use MSconfig to see whats starting up and have cleared the RUN in the registry folders of anything suspicios, but it still happens. ..oh and i cant get system32/services.msc to work, which i assume is an associated problem :( how can i see everything thats starting up when windows loads, and is there a specific app or script that watches for a cd being inserted? mark Tag: Datebase driven dropdown Tag: 275358

    - ASP here to MS Access on another server? I have a ASP running on one web server trying to access an Access database on another file server. The problem is WebServer doesn't have permissions to open the db on FileServer. On FileServer I expected to be able to grant read permission to IUSR_WebServer but that account doesn't exist in FileServer's list to choose from. What do I need to do? FileServer is also a domain controller. WebServer is a standalone Win 2000 server. The error I get seems to indicate access denied. If I copy the same database to WebServer and use server.mappath("db.mdb") to create the connect string it works fine.     - Client side and server side scripting problem Hiya I have a problem with using some client side and server side scripting together in an ASP. I'm using VBScript. What I'm trying to achieve is this - - Page loads up and some server side vbscript reads the database and populates a listbox on the page with the first field from each record in the recordset. This works fine. - User selects an option on the listbox and, using the OnChange, I call a client side vbscript function. This function needs to populate the text fields on the page with the rest of the fields from the relevant record in the recordset in the server side script that was done when the page loaded up. I realise that mixing server side and client side isn't possible but I'm looking for a way around this. What I can do is create an array in the server side code from the recordset and then pass this array into the function. I'm having trouble getting this to work though. The problem is that it doesn't seem to want to populate the text fields. It goes into the function alright because if I put an alert in there it appears when I select something from the list box.     - File permission problem Hi, I new to ASP. I have a problem with an ASP script opening a file for writing on my server. Here's how I got to this error: I downloaded a neat FileUpload ASP example from http://www.asp101.com/articles/jacob/scriptupload.asp. I copied to my wwwroot folder on my Win2000AS/SP4 server: - main .asp file - a subordinate .asp file that the main file references; and - a webform .html file Because of the problem I encountered I added a number of debugging statements to the script. Then I invoked the webform from a workstation using IE6.0 by referencing the server's IP address appended with webform .html file's name. I completed the form with: - Name: RLM - File: F:\_Projects_Current\_Projects_ASP\Test\Upload_test.txt and clicked Submit.     - ASP pages not responding. Hi All, I have a strange problem occuring with my ASP/MS SQL Server website. My site is totally ASP driven, powered by a MS SQL Server DB. Now for months it has worked/performed very well, no problems. But sometimes, mainly early morning, my ASP pages won't respond at all. I get no Timeout errors, no JS errors, no errors at all. Just when I request my site's homepage, IE just searches and then stops, does nothing. ASP just does not respond. Now I have checked with my Server guys and they say there is no problem server side. And my DB is fine, HTML pages work fine and I can still FTP to my site.......but no ASP pages respond at all. Has any one any ideas at to why this might happen. I thought it might be my code, but I have checked and checked....the site make alot of recordset calls to the DB, about 35 per page. But the recordsets are opend and queried and closed correctly, so I would not have thought this was a problem. Please, if anyone has any ideas, then please let me know, Much appreciated, Alan...     - Posting Unicode Form Values A really weird thing (to me, anyway) I've encountered is in a UTF-8 test script. Here, the input - a single two-byte Cyrillic character (as reported by Javascript in the originating form) is posted to the receiving script, where IIS or IE has expanded that to a 4-byte field. -- while the display of that character is correct.     - Session.LCID does not work I live in Brazil and i am trying to set my application to=20 work with american date format.=20 The problem is, even when i set the LCID property at the=20 beginning of my code, it always returns the date in=20 brazilian date format. I have a database that contains the exact path where files can be found and an "index" number assigned to each file. This index number is part of each files name. Example: DB columns filepath flindex pathname 123 pathname 124 pathname 125 etc etc Now the file structure is: pathname\123 file.txt pathname\124 file.txt pathname\125 file.txt Now if the actual file names were just a single extension I wouldn't have any problems because then I could just call up each file, my problem is that this "index" number is kinda like a place holder for any file type. pathname\123 file.txt pathname\123 file.pdf pathname\123 file.doc In my current code I end up using this: For Each fl in fc fileIndex = Left(fl.name,InStr(fl.name," ")) if fileIndex = flindex & " " Then Response.write ("|<a href ='" & webpath & fl.name & "' >" & fl.name & "</a>|") End if Next The above code works great, gives me the links I'm looking for based on each "indexed" file. My only serious issue is that depending on the exact path I might loop through only 10 files, or I might loop through 1000's of files. It is these paths with 1000's of files where my heartache comes from. It might take up to a minute for the code to loop through a given folder to match the indexed files I'm looking for. I'm sorry for making this post so long, but I thought it might give everyone a better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish if given more background. That way a user can interact (drag/drop, copy/paste) via IE with folder view for ftp sites. I have some code, that seems to be "flaky" it works for me and some others, but not everyone. There is one issue I have ran into that is pretty annoying, and I am not sure if it can be fixed or not and that is the security of the virtual directory and file. I would prefer that when the user is at work on the network and logged in with their AD account that they would not be challenged to authenticate, but I could not get the "request.ServerVariables("AUTH_PASSWORD")" method to work unless Basic Authentication is used, requiring the user to login. I do not know if this can be avoided in ASP.net, but if I can use an aspx page that can get the password without having to decrypt or whatever that would be ideal.     - Including Static Content I'm using the Server.Execute method to include a static page inside a dynamic database call. This static page is not a valid HTML page (i.e. lacking <body>,<head>, etc. elements), but I'm pulling it into the dynamic page just to give the content an upgrade in presentation, including images.
