    - Locking all text boxes in asp page Hi, I need advise as to how to do the following. In a asp page, the user can input information via text boxes which goes to a database. If users click a check box named final and submit the asp page, then next time they come, they will not be able to change any information. This means, I would like to grey out the text boxes so that users are unable to edit the values in the text boxes. The only way to allow edit is via adminstrator's intervention.     - runat="server" Hi, I have a BoundColumn in a DataGrid: <asp:BoundColumn DataField="lastname" SortExpression="lastname" ReadOnly="True" HeaderText="Last Name"></asp:BoundColumn> Column is sorted. I am wondering why this code is working properly as there is missing the statement runat="server". When I click on a header of the column, the grid posts back to the server and sorting is done.     - Creating Excel like form in asp application Hi, Currently, our clients use excel spreadsheet to give details of expense for a particular grant. e.g. expenseid type amount date ............. ..... ......... ...... ............. ..... ......... ...... ............. ..... ......... ...... ............. ..... ......... ...... This spreadsheet can run into 8-9 pages. I am working on a web application where the above process need to be converted into asp page allowing to add or delete detail expense line item.     - Consuming Web Services from ASP? Has somebody got an example of consuming web services from an ASP "client" web site? I saw mentions of "Soap Toolkit" but the Microsoft download area specifies that this will not be supported beyond April 2005...     - Request.form doesn't wotk with this IIS config Hi i got a strange problem but it's true i don't make thing like anyone... First Config: + IIS5.0 SP2 (yes i know...) WebSite Security Root : Digest Authentication, NT Authenticated SubFolders : Anonymous Login Anonymous login is set to use a domain user to enable a sql server authenticated connection. Permissions are based on Page/action/user Membership So i know it is a bit strange but let me explain 1 I need a secured connection to a sql server 2 The Webserver is running multiple websites and i don't want to make it run under an account 3 I should avoid to request user and pass Now the way it works 1 Page default on the root is NT authenticated and i retrieve user and group membership. I put this in a Cookie. 2 When i click on one of the page linked it checks if an entry in the database exists for specified page, user(from the cookie), action. this page is with Anonymous login and so it uses the Account i set as anonymous user. 3 If it's ok i show the form mixing querystring and form 4 on submit (javascript function) when i echo all the content of the request i only see the querystring. NOW if i put Basic authentication on the Page... i see the request.form and the request.querystring...     - MSXML2.XMLHTTP I wrote a small script that grabs two CSV files [links to the data files] from a remote web site, parses them out and displays them in scrolling divs. The first file has a little over 27k records, the second has less. It retrieves the data pretty quick but it takes awhile to write the page. Is there a better alternative to this approach?     - ASP & Excel Hi, I'm trying to export an ASP based report to Excel while preserving its display properties. I've added: Response.ContentType="application/vnd.ms-excel", and it works fine for several clients. For other clients it displays an emptry excel sheet. I'm not sure, but i think it has something to do with the excel version installed on clients - empty sheets were displayed for Excel 2000 clients while clients running Excel 2002 displayed the report correctly. If I add: Response.AddHeader("attachment","file_name=%file_name%"), all clients display the data correctly but the styles are lost.     - Mutex page operations I have a site which is using caching for some frequently used pages. When the page-level cache expires, or is expired by me, the page will get re-rendered to a static HTML file and then shown to the user, after it has been rendered. Assume the cache is stale. Somebody comes along and requests the page. It will then get re-generated, but whilst this is happening, if somebody comes along and requests the page again then they can get an error because the static HTML page file is still being recreated by the previous page request. What I think I need is a mutex for the page to stop this from happening, for the second page request, during cache refresh. So: 1st request owns the mutex until finished, and, whilst it's updating, all other page requests wait on the mutex. How can I implement a 'mutex' style operation for this scenario in ASP or handle it better to avoid this situation from happening? I've got my code able to understand if the page being requested is actually being updated, so I could just redirect the client back to the same script again, but at the same time the update process itself takes less than a second, so if the page could somehow wait for the operation to complete it would be a cleaner operation. I tried wrapping the Sleep API in a COM object, but this didn't seem to work and I'm just looking for a bit of a sanity check on the best way to go about this. Thanks Richard Tag: Blank ASP pages.     - HELP, keep getting 2 errors HI All, 1st post here, i wonder if you can help. We are about to upload CMS t a windows server and keep getting 2 errors below. We need to go LIVE an it's delaying us. An error occured when updating the database. The likely reason is that write permissions are not set on th 'database' folder. Please remember that write and delete permissions are also required o the 'content' folder and its subfolders. SQL Query: UPDATE tblMenu SET [count] = 228 WHERE menuid=666; IIS Said: Operation must use an updateable query. An error occured when trying to creat /nukedit/content/cache/menu1.js. The likely reason is that write and delete permissions are not set o the 'content' folder and its subfolders. IIS Said: Object required: Microsoft VBScript runtime error424 That's it - any ideas?     - Prevent unwanted comma This may not be possible on the server side, so apologies if this is the wrong group for this post. My form consists of an unknown number of pairs of text boxes. They are named textbox_a and textbox_b. I then split the comma separated list that gets posted: textbox_a = split(Request.Form("textbox_a"),",") for i = ubound(textbox_a) ...insert into db then do the same for textbox_b If anyone puts a comma into one of the text boxes, this will result in unmatched pairs.     - Understanding exception handler example in SDK I would appreciate some help in understanding the simple C# example relating to handling exceptions. This one relates to catching an error thrown by dividing number by zero.     - ASP will not serve requests because it could not perform the first request initialization / HTTP 500.1.1 SERVER ERROR Hi, I'm spend many hour to fix this problem, read many articles about it but no article gave a solution. To isolate the problem I've created in IIS6 (WServer2003) a virtual directory test to the local C:\test, in this directory I have index.htm and test.asp (just a simple Response.Write "TEST"). Opening the server/test/index.htm show the page, server/test/test.asp gives an internal error (500). The event log gives me the "ASP will not server..." error. I cannot find any ASP errors (friendly message turned of etc.) so I guess the page ASP script is not started. ASP is enabled, if I disable ASP I get could not load page in IE.     - newbie - updatable query in asp Hi folks, I'm new in ASP so I need some help on a updatable query. I have an access db with the table SID_Master_Archief. From this table I would like to run a query showing six fields. The doc_date(date), doc_link(hyperlink), regio1(boolean), regio2(boolean), regio3(boolean),regio4(boolean). The boolean fields have to be checked by the user. So I need a asp form with a grid showing these records and have the users click on one of the regio fields (I guess with a checkbox) to check or uncheck and then confirm with a button somewhere on the form to send the update to the server.     - asp question about text file I wrote an asp program that displays some information line by line such as name, address, town, state, zip and it prints about 200 lines to their browsers when the asp file is called. It is comma delimted so they can import into their database using access for example. 1. when they do file-save as to a txt file, it does not import right for them. It seems the lines blend into each other. 1. the only way they can do it is if they view the source code, then save as txt file. then when they import into access, it parses right. odd, what can i do on my asp end to make sure they can just do a file save as right from browser instead of viewing source.     - Form with diferrent action forms depending on the context Hi all, I have a form with 3 combobox whitin a asp page called data.asp, whose action form is itself; the first combobox drives the behaviour of the other two. The onchange event of the first combobox is related to a javascript function in which I call the submit method for the form, whose action form is itself. This works fine. The problem is that if I want to save the changes done by the user (clicking the OK button) I need to set the action of the form to another page, for example save.asp. The question is: how to do this? I had written a function inside the onclick method of the OK button that is similar to the following one document.MyForm.action = "save.asp"; document.MyForm.submit(); But it doesn't work properly, because the page save.asp is never invoked.     - confused about posting & execute permissions so i am using Dreamweaver; and I need to be able to have multiple pages post to a page called page6_1.asp from there; i give people the ability to either '1 - save definition as new report'; '2 - overwrite existing report definition'; or '3 - new draft for existing report' I have these 3 functions written as seperate pages.. Because Dreamweaver starts getting confused when you put too much on one page. So i basically want to pass data between multiple paes and page6_1.asp; and then if someone clicks option 1; i want to be send them to page6_2.asp; if someone clikcs option 2; send them to page6_3.asp; and if someone clikcs option 3 then send them to page 6_4.asp Basicaly; I can't get this data to post between multiple pages; and i had to drop the Execute Pemrissions from Medium to Low-- because Medium wasn't workig for me at all. I think it is registered correctly because, I can use this dll perfectly in a VB6 application by adding to the references.     - Make ASP page that polls to wait for a document to be produced Hi! I have a webapp. that holds a lot of documents. Some of the documents needs to be produced from a database on-the-fly, some are static documents like PDF, Word documents, etc... In the end, a user can do a request to produce a large amount of documents as one huge PDF document. Today the creation of documents is working, but all code is done in ASP. In Visual Basic, I was thinking about making an ActiveX EXE server that generates the PDF document. The ASP page will be polling until the file is generated. When this is done, the file will be displayed. I have only written down my thoughts on the subject. Is there a good way to do this?? Any help is appreciated!     - Sending email using ASP (CDO or Exchange) I have worked with CDO mail before at a different job, but at that job I was developing internet sites, and now I am developing Intranet apps.     - Line breaks in string containing Javascript Hi, I'm putting together a site to allow someone to add content to a DB through a text area form, and then display it on the web. Pretty basic. The problem I'm having is that they need to add snippets of javascript, but by the time its displayed on the page, there have been extra linebreaks added, breaking the javascript code.     - How to share session variables over different servers Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew how to send session variables between two different servers... My web host gives me two servers, one normal server and one that has SSL on it. When my web page goes to the SSL server I need to read the session variables from the original normal server. Does anyone know how to go about doing this? The obvious way would be to send a variable with the url and get it with the queryString but I dont want to do that as the customer can see and change things I don't want them to.     - Help: .NET application configuration I have written two almost identical applications: (a) .NET C# console application which calls an ActiveX object (accessible using blah.exe) (b) ASP.NET C# application which calls an ActiveX object (accessible using http://localhost/blah.aspx) In both applications, my ActiveX object is instantiated with no problems and calls to methods within it do not fail. However, in the ASP.NET application, the calls to the methods do not perform the operation. The method mentioned talks to a USB device. My understanding is that both use the RCW method to access the ActiveX object. For the ASP.NET application, the webform UI/buttons come up fine. However, my questions is do I have to enable anything from the ASP.NET side to allow proper access to the RCW or related ActiveX object?     - Detecting a specific client computer Hello! We have a company intranet based on ASP (Win2k, IIS 5.0, SQLServer 7.0). For security purpose, my boss wants to block some employees from logging in to our intranet except for from our factory. Our factory has a SBC DSL (one dynamic IP and it's shared). I know how to get the client pc's IP address. But as the IP address is dynamic, I cannot depend on it. Is there a way that I can detect the user is accessing from our factory (like router's MAC address)? One way I brought up is making a page to record the client computer's ip and making one of our factory's computers automatically call the page. But this scheme is incomplete as you know. Any idea? We use Vignette V5.6 to display our site. In our CMA site, we have a page
which has FRAMESET and in one of the frames we call a ASP page.
There seems to be some problem that the frame shows the ASP page is blank.
When we restart the IIS it works fine. But after some time it again shows
the blank. If we get one blank page, all the asp pages under the same virtual
directory, called in the Frame shows blank.

FYI. The Vignette template which contains the frame is marked for NO caching
& For itnernal use only.

Any help on this front would be greatly appreciated.

Check the event log for errors, and the IIS log to see what was
requested.
