    - Update Multiple Records How do I update multiple records in a table in ASP using loops ? For example. I have a table with the following colums ID | Col1 | Col2 ------------------------- 1 | 50 | 100 2 | 25 | 130 3 | 55 | 70 I want to add *66* and *77* into the ID # *1* and ID # *3* respectively.     - asp.net problem Hi I have an asp.net 2.0 project and am experiencing a problem. In the project, I am trying to make use of Membership. I have one Role, called "Basic User" and two users - "admin" and "test". "admin" is a member of the Role but "test" is not. I have only a few pages in the project at the moment: - . SecurePage.aspx - The page I want only authenticated users that are members of the Role to use. . Login.aspx - Login page . Unauthorized.aspx - Informs user that they cannot view the secure page because of a lack of permissions SecurePage.aspx just contains a ChangePassword control. Unauthorized.aspx has some text and a LoginStatus control. So in the SecurePage.aspx, I have this code to handle this: - Protected Sub form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) If User.Identity.IsAuthenticated = False Then Server.Transfer("login.aspx") End If If Roles.IsUserInRole("Basic User") = False Then Server.Transfer("unauthorized.aspx") End If End Sub If I go to the SecurePage and am not authenticated, it transfers me to login.aspx. If I then login with the user "admin", which is in the Role "Basic User", it works ok. If I first login with "test", which is NOT in the Role, then I am transfered to the "unauthorized.aspx" page. However, if I click "Logout" on the LoginStatus control on the "unauthorized" page it refreshes and changes to display "Login". So, if I then click "Login", I am taken back to the login page. The URL in the address bar at this point is: - http://localhost:1489/Lesson09/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2funauthorized.aspx If I then login with using "admin" - which is a member of the Role - this is where I get a problem. Instead of being taken to the SecurePage.aspx as expected, I get taken back to the "unauthorized.aspx" page. This is obviously wrong. Now, I know that this should work but does anybody know why it is not working? Is there some settings or something I need to change on my PC? Am I missing a step or not doing something? I've checked the obvious things - like that the user was actually in the Role etc. However, I just cannot get this to work. I am new to ASP.Net and so I don't really know where to start to look for what the problem is? I have gone through re-doing the project twice now and I still get the same problem.     - DATABASE ACCESS I am trying to create a unique type of registration form for my job upcoming Holiday Christmas Party. There will be 60 tables for seatings with 10 people max at table.     - Global Objects inside User Controls? [note: I am relatively new to ASP.NET, so I'm very possibly doing something stupid or overlooking something obvious. Please be forgiving, and walk me through your answer as much as possible. Much appreciated.] Here is the situation. I'm developing an application where: I have defined a class (DBClass) to provide an abstraction layer for interacting with a database. When an instance of the class is created, it creates a connection to the database. My initial plan was that, at the very top of each page I would: 1) include the DBClass class file, so the page knows about the class 2) create an instance of DBClass, which I call DB. My thought was, once the DB instance was created, I would be able to use it anywhere on the page. However, on the page I am also making use of a "user control". This user control has to have access to the database. When I simply reference DB in the control file, the compiler complains, because I have not created the instance DB in the control file.     - filter results to display those older than 'today'? I've been going round in circles here trying to get this to work and my ignorance of ASP is now showing me up. I want to construct a query string to allow me to filter entries to be displayed on a web page with respect to the date-entry contained in the database. i.e. an archived results page will show all entries where "my_date" is less than 'todays date' I have tried to do this by; Dim strSQL Dim showdate showdate = Date then... strSQL = "Select * FROM my_database WHERE my_date <" & showdate Although this does give a result, it has no actual bearing on todays date and wondered what strinkingly obvious this I'm doing wrong? when I use > i get all results displayed, when i use < I get none at all. thanks for any help Tag: Accessing network resources via classic ASP Tag: 326823

    - run excel I want to run excel in server. Server have IIS and MS SQL. My plan is, get data from MS sql and attach it in excel and run macro(vba) get result and save it as htm in server.     - Sending files from Servlet/JSP page to ASP Page Hi everyone, I want to transfer a file from servlet page or JSP to an ASP page. Since the two pages are in different server (WAS and IIS), I cannot just send file path to the ASP page and let it retrieves the file itself. If i path file paths's to servlet/JSP it should send those files to ASP page on different server(IIS) for processing.I don't want to use file input type ="File" for selecting the file to upload,i want it to happen in background. Hi All, Hi All, (this is not the same topic as the my previous topic) What objects/methods/properties does VBScript offer for: Assuring/guarantee/make certain that ASP/VBSCript an ELEMENT - e.g. <img ... /> - was FULLY Loaded into web Browser My Question is: describe, i have a page that does this a dll thatt does that the problem temp file How do I assure in ASP that an html element was fully loaded in the client side? myGetImage.asp uses a myGetImg.dll that does the following steps: 1. myGetImg.dll gets a data base record field 2. myGetImg.dll creates a temporary image - out of step 1 - on the client side - eg. myTempImg.jpg 3. myGetImage.asp has the <img .../> tag, and displays myTempImg.jpg on the client side. 4. myGetImage.asp uses a simple for...next loop for delaying - because in step 6 myTempImg.jpg is deleted - and Server.ScriptTimeout has a bigger value than the default. 5. myTempImg.jpg is supposed to be shown/displayed on the client side 6. myGetImg.dll deletes the myTempImg.jpg i'm not complete with step 4: that uses for...next loop for delaying, because it can very annoying on the client side to wait so long, for a image to be displayed on the client browser. My problem is: On some case - eg where myTempImg.jpg has big size - the myTempImg.jpg is deleted by myGetImg.dll, before myTempImg.jpg was displayed on the client/web browser. the for..next/and Server.ScriptTimeout don't seem as a good idea, because they sometimes they work and sometimes not. i've test my page on intranet and it's ok, but i'm not sure this will be valid for internet testing. My Question is: is there any object/way/method in asp, that can assure/verify/check/make certain that myTempImg.jpg was fully/100% loaded into the client web server, before myGetImg.dll deletes it.     - Question of programming principle I am an experienced but self-taught ASP programmer, and sometimes wonder about major issues of principle in programming. For example: I have a web application that iterates over a set of database records, and displays each one on screen. The details of how each record is displayed can vary a lot, so each record might have one to a half-dozen parameters indicating how it displays, and the total list of parameters that any record could have tops 40. Which of the following represents better programming practice: 1) Create a parameters table in the database with a 1:many relationship to the main records, and as each record is processed in the script, do a database query to pull associated parameters, and store the resulting recordset as an array in memory. At each decision point in the script, call a function to check the parameter array and return values if present. Advantages of this approach: orthodox database design; meaning of all the parameters and their values is easily documented in the database. Disadvantage: one to 50 extra database queries per screen, which will affect performance and scalability. 2) Code the parameters into one or more fields in the main record (probably one field for integers and one for text strings) separated by some marker. For example, 2x0x5 for integers or text1&&&text2&&&text3 for text strings. As each record is processed in the script, use the ASP split funciton to create arrays of these parameters. At each decision point in the script, check the appropriate position in the relevant array. Advantage of this approach: no extra database query for each record. Disadvantage: unorthodox, un-normalized database design; parameter sequence and meaning of the values must be documented in the code, which can get messy; and setting up the parameter strings for each record can be tedious and error-prone. The owners created a game where calling potential clients racks up points for crap like basketball ticekts and such. The owners called upon me to develop a system where users could enter information to list user name, data stamp it, and then add form data such as the person they called and if it was a cold call or not. All that was pretty easy. Oh, by the by, I had never programmed anything prior to this. I was strictly html. So I made the game... Users enter data, gets dropped into a csv in our _private folder. Then I made it so that the data can be read in html format, simple fso... Well not for me, but I got it to work... So now, the owner wants this list to be sortable by the last name of the agent.... This is where I have the problem. You see, I have a boss, a programmer. He is in Canada where as I am in California. He is far to busy to assist me, and his teaching methods consist of telling me one key word, and leaving me to google the hell out of it. So his key work was bubble sort. Now I have been playing with this for,,, well over a week now (a few days past deadline) and I cannot get it to work properly. I can get bubble sort to work on an array of pre-defined data... My problem( which I have taken forever to get to, sorry) is that I need to get it to look at the whole csv, find out where the eof is, then read up from there... I have no idea how to do this, and no jedi like mentor to ask assistance. I ask for help and either get harped at or a "lol"... Its getting old...     - bubble sort!? So heres the deal... I work for a company in which numbers are dropping. The owners created a game where calling potential clients racks up points for crap like basketball ticekts and such. The owners called upon me to develop a system where users could enter information to list user name, data stamp it, and then add form data such as the person they called and if it was a cold call or not. All that was pretty easy. Oh, by the by, I had never programmed anything prior to this. I was strictly html. So I made the game... Users enter data, gets dropped into a csv in our _private folder. Then I made it so that the data can be read in html format, simple fso... Well not for me, but I got it to work... So now, the owner wants this list to be sortable by the last name of the agent.... This is where I have the problem. You see, I have a boss, a programmer. He is in Canada where as I am in California. He is far to busy to assist me, and his teaching methods consist of telling me one key word, and leaving me to google the hell out of it. So his key work was bubble sort. Now I have been playing with this for,,, well over a week now (a few days past deadline) and I cannot get it to work properly. I can get bubble sort to work on an array of pre-defined data... My problem( which I have taken forever to get to, sorry) is that I need to get it to look at the whole csv, find out where the eof is, then read up from there... Currently, the Perl script is called directly by a <form> and the script retreive the form's parameter. My problem is that I want to restrict access to the Perl script ( I don't want anybody to check the source HTML and call the Perl script directly ). Up to now, I haven't found any way to put security constraint on the Perl script. What I thought is that if nobody knows the address, then it should be fine. So is there a way to call that script on the server side, and then send the output of it to the client?     - Error Line Number Hi, I have a page that whenever an error occur, I send an email to support with the error description, script name, server, referer, etc... However, I want to add the line number to the email message. So far, I have found that you would have to modify the custom error (500;100) on the IIS to point to your own error page to be able to use the Server.GetLastError object.     - Session Var Issues Hi all, Anyone out there using session vars to hold user information when a user logs in to your Web site, and sometimes having the Session Vars not get set (especially in IE)? My situation involves a Web site that uses a Session Var to hold a UserID and another to hold a UserType and some users are being directed to our 'timeout' message right away when they log in - it's coded so users get directed here if the Session Vars are empty, NULL, or "" so they are not really 'timing out'. The biggest problem is that some users cannot even get in. I have found that IE's Privacy setting about 'blocking all cookies' will cause this to happen and as long as the privacy gets set to 'High', you can still block cookies as long as you enable 'Session Cookies'. I have also found a work around by adding the Web site to the list of trusted sites in IE. Any other suggestions? Perhaps there is a coding work-around that I am not aware of. At the end of each record (and table row), I have created a <select> dropdown box to appear. The user selects an item for each record in the list, then hits submit.     - tracking sessions Hi, I have a section of my intranet that i track with a session. That is to make sure that users have to login before they are able to use / view certain web pages. In my wwwroot directory i have two locations where these files are placed. The main files are in admin the other is in news. With these two folds they work fine. Is there any easy way to identify which buy button is clicked in the following asp page, so I know which data set I need to pass to the next asp page? should I put the three plans in one form or multiple forms, I never programed multiple forms in one asp page.     - IIS, ASP, wshell.run, command prompt, console width, height Hi, Is there anyone knows which user profile is using by IIS while running an DOS application within asp with wshell.run command. To describe my problem clear; I'm using a DOS command and within ASP. My code is something like this; set wshell = server.createobject("wscript.shell") commandline = "tclsh84.exe test1.tcl" intReturn=wshell.run(commandline,0,true) Everything is OK.. Script is running and the rest of the code is written output to the screen... The problem is, script generates 200-300 characters width outputs.. But since IIS runs it in a 80X24 window the output is converted to 80 character width lines... If I manually use tclsh84.exe test1.tcl command within a DOS prompt, I can easily adjust the window properties to set window size something like 300X100 so I can see the output is not modified.. And if i save this properties, future using of this command is not modified too... Windows write this properties into registry HKEY_Current_User\Console\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\C:_tcl_bin_tclsh84.exe Since this has been written to HKEY_Current_User, this change isn't available for other users and the user which IIS is using... I've tried - Copying my profile to Default User and All Users profile. - Logging to IIS/Windows server with IUSR_server, IWAM_server users and make this window size changing, but it doesnt work..     - IIS and WebDav problems I am trying to setup IIS 6 to allow web developers to connect up to the web root of a website via WebDav and work on site files including .asp and .aspx files. I have setup a website for this purpose in IIS. The home directory is mapped to a local folder on the machine. Under the 'home directory' tab all the permission boxes are checked ('script source access, read, write, etc...). Execute permissions are set to 'scripts and executables'. I've also removed .asp from the 'application extensions' list accessed from the 'configuration' tab. Basic authentication is turned on under 'directory security/authenticati on and access control'. I do not have URLScan installed, so any filtering is by IIS only. This is all working as expected; I can mount the WebDav connection in Windows Explorer and navigate, view and open/save files. I can also access the website via a browser and browse directories/view browser appropriate files, etc. The problem is that I cannot access any .asp files at all. If I look in the logs for the website I get a entry for the WebDav request (PROPFIND) with a 404 error. The file *is there* I just can't access it. Other files (.html, .css., .jpg, etc.) work fine.     - Comparing fields Greetings, I have a simple html/asp form that submits data to an access DB. The idea is when calling a record back from the db, the page will have an option to change certain fields (drop down) then a new submit option. My question at this point would be what logic or commands would I use to compare the original data in the fields to what's being submitted. I ultimately want to preserve the original records and somehow append data that changes only. I'll need to eventually call a record and see all the changes/updates made. Your website has been allocated 20% CPU and 800 MB of virtual memory. We set the limits to prevent any one site from impacting server performance. IIS will restart your application pool if these limits are exceeded. Your website will display the "Service Unavailable" error while it is restarted. If you find that this is happening, you will want to audit your scripts to reduce resource usage. If the error seems to happen randomly during the day and cannot be linked to one or more specific scripts, then you are probably exceeding our virtual memory limit. You can try to reduce memory by reducing your per-session memory demands (session variables, objects, etc.) and/or by reducing your total sessions (for example, by decreasing your session timeout). If the error is triggered by a particular script, then you will want to first audit the script for high CPU usage.     - VERY new to ASP, http 401.5 error I've been trying to start out learning some ASP and I've been trying to create the classic 'Hello world' program. I'm running the ASP pages on some webspace I have, rather than on my computer. Everytime I try and run the asp page it brings up a HTTP 401.5 error. "HTTP Error 401.5 - Unauthorized: Authorization failed by an ISAPI/CGI application. Internet Information Services (IIS)" I'm certain the webspace hosting the asp page allows asp pages (especially since the company is called 'asp-host'!).     - Unique Way to Detect if Cookies are set - opinions? I was thinking about an easy to determine if cookies are set or not in ASP. I began thinking about how the Session ID is dependent upon a cookie - right? Well, I disabled cookies in Firefox and then loaded a webpage that displayed Session.SessionID. Viola, I got one! And then, I reloaded the page. And then, I noticed that the SessionID incremented by one! This still isn't yet a one-page method of detecting if cookies are enabled or not (like BrowserHawk does), but are there any possibilities here? the command prompt does not get access to files on remote disks via ASP. Is
